I loved everything about this performance. The genuineness in Mike's "it's good to see you again" opening, Emily's walk to the stage like a fighter coming in to an entrance song, Mike's excitement when she starts singing, the harmonies and exchanges between the two of them, the song as a whole. All of it was awesome
There is an interesting concept in buddhism called sunyata (void, emptiness) which I think ties really nicely with the lyrics and the video. They came back because of a visceral need for music and to be *part of something* but by coming back, they have fueled the endless machine of everyone's expectations. In short and very very simplified, sunyata is about how everything in the world doesn't have an intrinsic meaning or value by itself but only in context with everything else. Everything has a prior cause for coming into existence and all things are made of other small parts that we cannot see or perceive just like how the members of the band are made of tiny "particles" in the music video. It's said that observing this phenomenon of emptiness will allow you to drop the illusion and observe the "ultimate" reality, discover the source of everything and the meaning of life. I'm so digging this song, love Emily, her energy, how happy our boys seem and I'm so excited for the album! Chester will never die in our hearts, his legacy is honored
Interesting concept! Kinda like there's an energy, within and between everything and in every little part of everything, that binds it all together. How long have you practiced Buddhism?

I'm a business analyst and i'm currently researching on media and sound data mining to visually interpret sound. The way you analyze every particular variation in the singer's voice, tempo, stage stand and even breathing is very inspiring to me, thank you for that!
In memory of Paul Di'Anno (5/17/58 - 10/21/24), former singer of Iron Maiden, I'd recommend doing either Strange World (studio) or Remember Tomorrow 1980 Live. RIP Paul
What a way to introduce a new singer and new chapter live, the walk up onto stage, and the Mike cut out to let her have a solo moment, just all around well done.
I love this whole performance, but my favorite part is simply how happy Mike looks the whole time. You can tell he's exstatic to be performing as LP again
Man... Linkin Park's return is such an... emotional and packed event. The fanbase being divided between so many things... between whether they feel it was right for someone to succeed Chester, between how they feel about Emily's Scientology background, between how they feel about the Bennington family's feelings on Emily and LP. LP's return definitely wasn't a small deal. As for How I personally feel about Emily... I say that if you made a Venn diagram about Chester vs. Emily's vocals, that overlapping section would be pretty big. There's *something* in Emily's singing that's extremely similar to Chester's. Not in a way that intends to compare her to him, but that her voice has some similar property that evokes a very similar feeling. Also, Emily was nervous af in this performance. Her next performance (LP's first public show after this, in LA) was massively better, and she's only gotten better since. It's gonna take quite some time for her to reach Chester's level of power, if she ever does. But she's definitely doing well.
I was one of those who thought the band couldn't go on without Chester. But Emily proved me wrong. I think she is brilliant and her voice and pressence is a perfect fit for the band. They all sound amazing together!
Mike's solo album Post Traumatic, released after we lost Chester, is ALL bangers. one of my all time faves. his words, his lyrics, you will want to give him all the hugs.
They just release their third single "Over Each Other" on the 24th it is really good and worth a look. I was watching the live when she came in she sounded exactly like she does here don't think their is any production on her voice.
I saw an interview with Mike and Emily and she told a story of when they decided on her. She said that Mike told her to "learn how to sing" but i dont remember if it was pertaining to like, ACTUAL singing, or singing their songs, but that was time well spent, because she sounds AMAZING. I watched this show (not live) from beginning to end, and was BLOWN AWAY by her performance! They marketed this show as an "unknown event", not telling anyone that it was an actual concert, or the introduction of Emily to the LP family, so when it became an actual concert, it was a surprise for everyone. The stage had an awesome light show accompanying it, and at the very beginning, all the instruments had cloths over the top of them. Making a point to remove the coverings gave it a feel like "okay, we've been gone for a while, we're back now, and it's time to reopen the doors." My eyes still water when she starts singing, and when Mike was (re)introducing the band, he said: "The part of Chester Bennington is played by YOU." So happy Linkin Park is back!
After Chester's death, Mike went on a little solo career journey and he has some really nice sounding songs. I definitely recommend checking out some of his stuff! His album "Post Traumatic" was really powerful. Also, he had a different project called "Fort Minor" where he has some cool things as well. But PT showed me Mike in a different light and it shows that he is JUST as important to Linkin Park as Chester was. There is no LP without Mike.
This was her first song in the debut performance for the new version of LP introducing her as a surprise. She seemed to be very nervous and also very emotional during this show. She has just gotten better with each time they play live.
I beg you to listen to no roads left, thats one of the best songs to introduce you to mike shinodas voice. Minutes to midnight entirely needs to be analysed.
This was the perfect introduction to the new era. Mike starting off giving us the familiar. Yes he usually rapped, but he had a few solos in their catalog along with backing Chester a ton. Then introducing us to Emily who sounds great in the 2nd verse before just blowing us away dropping that chorus. Heavy Is The Crown gave us the old HT/Meteora sound with Mike rapping and Emily screaming. Their new song just dropped yesterday, Over Each Other, and is a showcase for Emily showing off both her power and softness. I guess you’d call it more of a power ballad. So ready for the new album!!
I still think they didnt even use all of Emilly´s vocal talent for now. Listen to Dead Sara songs Mona Lisa and Lemon Scent, where she shows so much of variety. I listened to Dead Sara for a long time, I am really happy she and LP found each other.
Emily was so nervous here!! You should hear her now with more shows under her belt. It’s even more incredible to hear, especially singing the old songs too, she’s found her pocket and she’s AMAZING
Next Linkin Park song you should do is “Friendly Fire” if I remember correctly, it was an unreleased song from before Chester left this world and they decided to release it with their Papercuts album
So loved your reaction to this song! And you did it the day after they released their 3rd single, Over Each Other - another amazing song further showcasing Emily's amazing voice. Can't wait for you to react to that one!
majorly appreciate that you're actually looking at the live version of the song rather than the recorded polished version. shows so much more interest and care for the actual singer rather than the production value
Thank you for doing this video Elizabeth! "The Emptiness Machine" was the first song I listened to of the new Linkin Park lineup - while I was listening I immediately thought to ask you to analyze the song - both Mike Shinoda and Emily Armstrong are sooo good. I think that Mike's voice has really matured and Emily simply blew me away! ❤ Again, thank you!!❤
This is an amazing song, and such a great video. The way she walks up to the stage instead of starting on it just builds the anticipation, and that promise is fulfilled when she starts singing and they harmonize on the chorus. Chills every time I watch it.

Hi! Chris S from Toronto, Canada here. Could you please analyze a famous band from Canada called "Big Wreck"? Specifically a song called "Wolves". "Ian Thornley" the lead singer from the band has, in my opinion, one of the best voices I've heard in the Rock genre. Would love to hear your take on it. Thanks so much!!
If you like Mike Shinoda's singing in this, _please_ check out "No Roads Left" from 2007's Minutes to Midnight! It's a really special song, and actually a hidden one that did not originally make it to the album. Until that point Mike had never done a front and center singing role, but for whatever reason during recording, the band felt that his singing fit the song better than even Chester's.
If you want to hear another band replace an iconic lead singer, I invite you to listen to the William duVall era of Alice in Chains. He does not in any way try to replace Layne Stanley but instead ads a new flavour of tombre that mixes with Jerry Cantrell
Now that you mentioned Courtney and Tati in one sentence you just have to check out their live duet version of "Circle with me". This is a duet for eternity.
If you want to hear Mike sing lead on some songs, there were a few on some of the later albums (the first two albums he’d rap while Chester sang, then when Mike took over on production he pushed a lot more Chester singing and only did a little bit of rapping, it wasn’t till some of the later albums he started singing occasionally too) the one that I remember is titled “Invisible”
The way I've come to understand and explained it previously: Chester's scream fry exuded a lot of pain, sadness, and cried for help (still pains me that he saved a lot of us from our darkness but when it came to it no one was able to save him 😢). While Emily's feels like excitement, and anger. Mike previously was the one to take the back seat for Chester, so Mike was the 1 exuding the anger and excitement through rap but now he is the one taking the front seat and also the one exuding the sadness and pain (hopefully not a cry for help...) 😅🙏🏼🍻
"its good to see You again" watching this live at premiere, when Mike said those words i start crying... me grown up man, who barelly ever shed a tear in my 37 years of life. i saw my favourite band i grew up with, coming back and something broke in me. those were tears of happiness, sadness, nostalgia and all memories from the past hit me at once. than i heard Emily and my only though was "perfect choice". with every new song released i m liking her even more. LP with Chester will always be number one in my heart but LP with Emily is right next to it.
I’ve always been a fan of LP and was skeptical when I heard they were back with a female vocalist. But from her very first verse, I got goosebumps all over and tears in my eyes like never before (from a song :-D). It truly felt like LP. Emily really sounds like LP, and she’s incredible -it still hits me, even after listening to it so many times. She absolutely made my year 🙂 Thank you!
You should definitely compare this first performance with their later gigs, Emily, as beautiful as she get, sounds here a bit stressed but each concert later she sounds so damn better as she gets more familiar - I gues - with the audience and the audience fkn love her (so do I) and she feels it. The last gig I've watched was from Seul I think and she is absolutely stunning there. Aaaaand Mike is the damn best, I have no words for this old prick, I love him.
I'm a big fan of Dead Sara so glad to see Emily getting her time in the limelight, though a bit sad if it means the end of her band. You should definitely give Weatherman a listen, one of my all time favourites
I've been waiting for you to do a live performance of her. I thought her voice was sounding tired by the end of the show and you were the first thing I thought of and wondered if she was doing the distortion in a healthy way. These are the ways you've influenced people's thinking about music. Also, any chance you'll ever listen to a live performance of Garth Brooks? It'd be interesting to hear you evaluate a voice and style like his.

Love your explanation around 9 minutes. That’s the same explanation that members of Mother Love Bone expressed when Andy passed. Creating a new band, that became Pearl Jam, Stone and Jeff didn’t want someone to come in and be another Andy and just be his same voice. Eddie came in and was his own voice and style. I see similar sentiment here with Linkin Park.
I think the difference is that Andy Wood never had the chance to become iconic. I was never a big fan of Chester or LP, but it can't be denied that the two are linked in everyone's minds. It may have been a better idea to start a new band like Jeff and Stone did to let go of that baggage. Especially since I heard two members of LP also left.
Elizabeth, you have to watch and listen to their latest release video - Over Each Other. Very different sound than the first two releases, and likely quite polarizing, but very impactful.
I remember so many haters when they listened to their "showcase" concert. But this song especially you can hear it's LP but it got something new. They didn't try to copy Chester.. well done.
I don't care about her personal stuff. Emily Armstrong is great and she is a very nice addition to LP. I am happy to see Mike Shinoda having fun and smiling too. Definitively a new start.

Everything has a prior cause for coming into existence
and all things are made of other small parts that we cannot see or perceive just like how the members of the band are made of tiny "particles" in the music video.
Ever since it was pointed out to me that the Emptiness Machine could be social media, I can’t unthink about it. It just fits so well.
Chester was the angst of youth. Emily is the rage of adulthood
Speaking of "rage"
Emily Armstrong was one of the women attacking the women at the courthouse in the Danny Masterson Case. She is a Scientologist Psycho. To have her leading the band, when Chester was unalived for daring to speak out against s3x cults like NEXIUM, is an insult to his memory. I don't support them anymore. Can't support a band that supports Cults and r@pists.
Killer description!

Linkin Park ended the day Chester was murdered. If you wanna support people who stand up for r@pists, that's on you. Even her former bandmate called her out on that.
Spot on
I love this live version. 👏 So incredible that Mike and Emily could give us such amazing vocals. I get emotional just watching, can’t imagine how it felt to perform in that moment.

Emily really is the perfect fit for the band. I love the way they all sound together. Can't wait to see what the future holds for them.
RIP Paul
Nah
No Iron Maiden or Wraithchild?
21/10/2024?
Did Chester have "the power" from the beginning or did he grow in to it?
@@bunker1213 Maybe not what he had later, but he started out pretty strong as-is.
the way Mike is so excited and his smile at the beginning gave me an incredible happiness inside!
Making a point to remove the coverings gave it a feel like "okay, we've been gone for a while, we're back now, and it's time to reopen the doors."
My eyes still water when she starts singing, and when Mike was (re)introducing the band, he said: "The part of Chester Bennington is played by YOU."
So happy Linkin Park is back!
This is one of those songs that as soon as I heard it I knew it was gonna be stuck in my head for weeks and weeks and weeks and sure enough
We need another Ghost analysis! It is October after all :D
Emily was so nervous here!!
You should hear her now with more shows under her belt. It’s even more incredible to hear, especially singing the old songs too, she’s found her pocket and she’s AMAZING
I do love how static she is during this song. I’m sure Mike was like “you can move around” she’s like “no, I’m good”
Next Linkin Park song you should do is “Friendly Fire” if I remember correctly, it was an unreleased song from before Chester left this world and they decided to release it with their Papercuts album
So loved your reaction to this song! And you did it the day after they released their 3rd single, Over Each Other - another amazing song further showcasing Emily's amazing voice. Can't wait for you to react to that one!
I never cared for Linkin Park, but this new lineup and music style has got me listening
omg please react to jinjer feat spirit box - circle with me, tatiyana joined courtney live on stage to perform its so good
If she does it won't be for weeks.
This would awesome!
majorly appreciate that you're actually looking at the live version of the song rather than the recorded polished version. shows so much more interest and care for the actual singer rather than the production value
Again, thank you!!❤
Finally! Was waiting for this analysis.
This is an amazing song, and such a great video. The way she walks up to the stage instead of starting on it just builds the anticipation, and that promise is fulfilled when she starts singing and they harmonize on the chorus. Chills every time I watch it.
For questions of longevity, she is singing for around 20 years. Probably her technical skills are very good.
Halloween theme songs - Ozzy Bark at the Moon, King Diamond - The Family Ghost (live at Filmore 2018), Lovebites - Winds Of Transylvania [VLADLOVE Version] MV,
Frozen Crown - Embrace the Night, Volbeat - The Devil's Bleeding Crown - Live at Tusindarsskoven, Odense 2015, Nocturna - New Evil (Official Video)
Unlucky Morpheus「Black Pentagram」"XIII" Live at Toyosu PIT, OLV, Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast 1982 Live
If you are a metal head, you most certainly will like these.
"Frozen Crown - Embrace the Night,"
My man. Black Heart is also spooky.
Great picks but if you want to caver all bases, being a ice nine kills fan is great during Halloween season
I missed the premiere, but I am SO EXCITED to hear more from LP+Emily. Amazing new sound, Elizabeth says it all!!! 💜💜💜
Edit: UA-cam, please stop SLAMMING me with ads. I've seen over 10 in this video. My lord....
Would love a reaction to Big Wreck! Wolves is good, but I think Albatross also shows Thornley's range as well.
I never get tired of hearing this song or Heavy is the Crown. Everytime she kicks in the overdrive, I tear a little, joys of happiness.
Every time there's a scream singer

Elizabeth: need to shove a camera down their throat, stat
😂
I don’t know much of Linkin Park material but this was an awesome review, opened another musical door for me, thank you
Start at the beginning
Tnx Terrahawk, I think I shall, I just love discovering new stuff
This song is a song can't help to sing along. I really love this song. Thanks for analyzing it.
Wonderful analisys as always, can't wait for you to discover the "La Plante - Shmayluk" duet of Circle With Me live🤞
So good to see this video ♡
please do more reactions to Linkin Park with Chester as the lead singer
And they just released their third single! Over Each Other. Its very different, you should hear it!
Amazing analysis! Thank you so much ❤
If you want to hear another band replace an iconic lead singer, I invite you to listen to the William duVall era of Alice in Chains. He does not in any way try to replace Layne Stanley but instead ads a new flavour of tombre that mixes with Jerry Cantrell
Now that you mentioned Courtney and Tati in one sentence you just have to check out their live duet version of "Circle with me". This is a duet for eternity.
"this has been an incredible evolution of the band and I just want to hear more." ditto
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
This song is pure masterpiece. Perfect song.
I haven't listened to LP for so long, this one takes me back to "the good ol' days" of the LP that I listened to. Powerful
emily is really getting better at it as time goes
and just in time , the dropped a new song called "over each other"
Love this song I'm excited
Can we please have Sia analysed, preferably her older live performances ‘soon we’ll be found’ ‘clap your hands’ ‘little black sandles’ to name a few x
Its been almost a year since you covered a Rush song. we need more plzzzzzzzzzz
Yeah this isn't JUST a live performance. This is the first ever! She was so nervous! Still amazing! :)
You really need to dive into her stuff from Dead Sara, in my opinion it is a better showcase of her talent.
You just know the reaction to the live version of Heavy Is The Crown is coming....
Should have done a more recent show, she’s now in her element
I've been waiting for you to do a live performance of her. I thought her voice was sounding tired by the end of the show and you were the first thing I thought of and wondered if she was doing the distortion in a healthy way. These are the ways you've influenced people's thinking about music.
Also, any chance you'll ever listen to a live performance of Garth Brooks? It'd be interesting to hear you evaluate a voice and style like his.
There is Linkin Park song with only Shinoda's vocals: In Between. It sounds very personal and emotional. Maybe you'd like to listen to it.
This video explain why i have suscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing your experience, your humanity , your passion and your knowledge in such a distinctive way. Keep it up , wish you the best
I wish you had watched the intro to the show too, the couple minutes before they came out. It was such a powerful moment!
Im so excited for you to listen to over each other!!!
It would be great to have more reactions to "old" Linkin Park live performances and "new" one.
Ronnie Radke mentioned 💯
I fell in love with her voice on Dead Sara and damn is this great to hear it here too
Me too. Question: Am I alone in feeling that she's holding back, quite a bit, in the two released LP numbers comparative to DS?
Me too
Elizabeth, you have to watch and listen to their latest release video - Over Each Other. Very different sound than the first two releases, and likely quite polarizing, but very impactful.
If you want to hear Mike sing you should listen so Ghosts off his post traumatic album. He's so talented and the video has socks singing!
I remember so many haters when they listened to their "showcase" concert. But this song especially you can hear it's LP but it got something new. They didn't try to copy Chester.. well done.
I'm curious to see how the Tessrract vocalist (Daniel Tompkins) and Linking Park collaboration will go.
On an alternate timeline, Elizabeth is an ears, nose, and throat doctor.
I don't care about her personal stuff. Emily Armstrong is great and she is a very nice addition to LP. I am happy to see Mike Shinoda having fun and smiling too. Definitively a new start.
I love love love ur break downs I'd love to see u break down her on LPs older songs
This song describes my failed marriage perfectly.
I was never into LP, sorry everyone. However! Her vocals and this song have won me over. Her high screams are so powerful and emotional.
Emily is unique. Each time I listen to her voice it brings tears to my eyes - Just that she leaves everything out there>>She doesn’t hold back;I haven’t seen anyone perform like her in a long time…
I just love your videos and analysis'.
