Hey everyone! I'm not sure if I remember saying it in the video, but as the picture in the thumbnail suggests, it is a good practice to hold the thread tail when you are going to start the seam on knits. This will help avoid any tangles and, in general, will make your sewing more smooth! 😊
Holding the tail thread to start, I agree completely. One other thing, please save your Singer if you can. I bought my Singer Athena 2000 in 1973 and as of today she is still sewing. She was expensive but came with all the attachments. Although the bobbin tension is automatic, I simply adjust the stitch length and tension to get the results I need. I love your series on sewing. It is a skill that has almost disappeared over the course of my lifetime. Have a blessed day.
Starching knit fabric to counteract the rolling is so smart! Thank you for the tip.
Glad it was helpful! 🥰
My skills are limited and my sewing machine is a 1953 Singer😊. However, I am learning so much from each of your easy to follow sewing steps and many tips! I am very thankful to have come across your channel. 💥
I'm thankful too for your support 💕
Oh my goodness. You really need a patreon and teach. This was incredible to watch and I think I have a million questions but I need to re-watch this quite a few times. I do have a serger with no instruction manual. There is a color code on the inside but still it baffles me. Is there a secret to knowing how to thread a serger ? Please help. Thank u
Hi Kathleen! Thanks so much 🥰 Serger is so good for everything. I'm going to make a video about it. Cheers 🙂
@@DowntownTailoring Wonderful. I have had it for years and it is in box. I look forward to learning for you....xoxo
If you can find the make and model of your serger, you can probably find a digital copy of the manual online either on the brand's website or in a manual database.
Most sergers are threaded in order of upper looper, lower looper, left thread, right thread. You can always google the serger model manual, they're usually pretty easy to find.
@@daxxydog5777 I got it from QVC years ago. It's a Euro Pro and I have since never seen it again but I will try. Thanks so much
You made that look so easy. I know it’s not! 😂 great tips. Maybe I’ll attempt that dress pattern this summer that uses a stretchy knit. How can I make a mock up for a knit pattern? I can use old bed sheets for a woven fabric muslin but I don’t know what cheap fabric I can practice sewing a knit with. Any ideas? I need to practice this before I sacrifice a nice fabric.
Very often, I use old T-shirts. If the pieces aren't that big, I join (not really neatly) more than one piece. It works, at least just to guide me in the right direction. Happy sewing! 😊
That is the best looking serged hem I've seen!
Aweee! Thanks. This is a great technique. I don't do it too often as it takes great attention.
Chiếc máy thật tuyệt vời và em nghĩ là giá thành của nó có lẽ cũng cao vì công dụng của nó rất nhiều. Cảm ơn
Yes! I would like to learn how to draft my own patterns
Yesss!!!
Thank you for sharing - I haven't sewn knits for some time and this information will help. Laurie
“That’s geometry”. 😊
🥰🥰🥰
Question please - what software do you use to draw your designs befor you make the pattern? PS: I love your videos! Teaching is your gift for sure!
Thanks so much! I was using Procreate on this video. Cheers 🥰
I’d like to know more about the clear elastic and ways to use it
Wow! That’s a lovely design. Love the lace insert. I’m inspired! Are you in Ottawa? I’m just an hour south of you by the St Lawrence. Small world!
Yes, I am. 💞💞💕
Love that hem. Didn't know a blind hem could be done on the serger.
Very cute design! I've never made a pattern. Thank you!
Thanks so much! 🥰
You are very talented. Love watching your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching! 🥰
I hope you are able to repair your sewing machine. I'm no longer in the sewing business but you help me step up my personal sewing skills. Thank you for the helpful ideas for sewing knit fabric.
Thanks so much! I'll try to repair it 😊
I would love to make my own pattern. I'm waiting for the Community College in town to offer a pattern making class.
Making your own patterns gives you a lot of freedom. Cheers 😊
Disappointed that you didn't model it for your viewers!💔
😄😄😄 I'm going to wear it next week!
I meant to ask you…is that a design app you used to show us the pattern? I am always looking for one so wondered if I might get the name if it is one you like😉. Have a great day
Hi! I'm now getting acquainted with Browsewar in order to be able to share my patterns with you, guys. I've always felt limited as it is very difficult for me to share my patterns, but soon, I'll be able to!
Finally! Now I know how to adjust bobbin tension! I always thought it was a setting and that my machine didn't have it. I am eternally grateful for this.
I'm so glad. Bobbin tension is very important. Cheers 😊
tambriggs, be sure and note or mark your bobbins original screw position, so can return to it. It is best if you have an extra Bobbin case that you make tension adjustments on, and one that you keep at original setting. Also only adjust screw a small amount at a time. I learned these tips the hard way.
Wow. It is amazing how it makes so much sense when u showed it. Ty
Thanks 😊
Rip to your sewing machine 😢❤
I’m so sad about it!
I would love to see you designing the pattern.
Noted! 🥰
Wow! So much information. Thanks!
🥰🥰🥰
Very pretty top and I was glued to the video! 😂 ❤
Thanks 🥰 🥰 🥰
❤️
Wonderful tips 🤩
Glad you like them! Thanks 😊
I learn so much from you 😊
Thanks so much for watching! 😊
Where do you get your heavy duty starch. I always pick some up when I’m in the USA because I haven’t been able to find it here.
Hi! I get this starch at Cleaner's Supply. Cheers 😊
Thx. I passed this on to the local quilt store owner and she’s considering bringing it in. It comes in a case which is too much starch for the regular person.
@@annewhitney8809 yes, that’s right. I get them because I offer Dry cleaning services too. Cheers
You are such a great teacher
Thanks so much! You are so kind!
I prefer to sew-in sleeves in the flat, because I feel it is easier. What are your thoughts?
Yes! Absolutely. It's easier to sew them flat, although it's a little more mobile and cleaner to sew it rounded. Although, it's not really a big deal. Cheers 😊
@@DowntownTailoring I guess I need to try both methods with the same fabric and the same pattern, because I just don’t understand how sewing in the flat affects the mobility. I’ve heard that from others, so it must be common knowledge.
I just discovered your channel today. You're amazing! Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge. Love that neckline on the blouse.
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰🥰
Looks good...
Thanks 😊
Genius!!! Thank you so much! Idk where my sewing skills would be without your videos! I’m so grateful ❤
Thank you for your kind words! 😊❤️
This was really great! What a beautiful top! And such good advice!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it 😊
Yet another wonderful video; even though I don't sew clothing, there are bits of information that may prove useful in the outdoor gear sewing that I do. As always, thanks for your time and effort. YVR
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching! 🥰
This is SO helpful! Knits have always kind of scared me, but I am getting more confident as I watch you do it. I like that you showed so many different ways to approach it--changing the stitches, thread, needles, interfacing, seam elastic, surger, etc. I used to only think about the stitches, but now I see that there are so many other ways to add stretch and stability to knits.
Is the bottom hem you did kind of like a blind hem that you might use on dress pants?
Thanks! 😊 Yes! You can do this hem in a dress pants. Just be aware of your machine's knife. You can ruin your pants if you aren't careful. Cheers 😊
You amaze!
Thanks 🥰
Awesome
Thanks 🥰
The final result is amazing! Just as the picture. What a vision!
Thanks so much! 🥰🥰🥰
Your videos are so enjoyable to watch, Aida.
Thanks so much Melissa 🥰 I appreciate your support ❤
I always sew stretch materials with a stretch twin needle. It works really well and I can iron it neatly after. nice design!
Yes! Thank you! Love the twin needles! 😍
So many techniques in the making of one shirt, wow! As with most of your videos I will be watching this more than three times to get everything to sink in 😉. One of my favorite parts..when you said, “That’s geometry.” 😂 You crack me up
Thank you! A little bit of good humor 😊😊😊
@@DowntownTailoring You slide a little humor in each video and it doesn’t go unnoticed. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Wow! That turned out really lovely 😍
Glad you think so! Thanks 😊

Thank you! I learned about bobbin tension, sewing with tape, feather stitch !!!
