I learned a trick. Put playing cards between the sleeve and the impeller. This keeps the sleeve centered while bolting down. Then you pull the cards out with needle nose pliers.
Very helpful video! I have the same Jet Drive and was wondering about this exact issue and removal procedure. Look forward to more helpful maintenance videos on this motor. 👍🏻👍🏻
the rough texture you see on the downstream side of the leading edge is due to cavitation. You should try running the motor lower in the water to prevent that.
6:28 I'm surprised that blade is such a blunt edge and not even slightly sharp. If that cone and the ring around it were tapered and fit inside one another it would be quite simple to adjust the shims to get the tolerance you need for it to be efficient... maybe that is how it works I don't know.
I have a tunnel hull with pods. What fish finder are u running and how did u mount it? I am wanting to get a helix 9 with si. Not sure how to mount my transducer.
Didn’t see anything there that would have cost you speed. Did moving the shim help? Little gains to be had by sharpening the impeller and the intake fins. Anything to help with water flow. I fish the New River in SW Virginia. Hope to get down your way one day.
What kind of mileage per gallon do you get? I have a 90 Johnson 2-stroke and get about 2.3 miles per gallon. I’ve been debating on going Mercury four stroke for years. Hope to hear back. Thanks Ott.
Q: Do you set your intake shoe level or canted slightly back down away from the transom? Q: Do you use a transom saver off the trailer frame to the lower unit? Thanks🤜🏼🤛🏼
Windy. I now use a transom saver on my Jet. As I travel across country. At first I didn't. Only on my Conventional Prop setup. And have had the gunnels crack from the stress. It's an older Fisher Hull and not as strong as perhaps a more modern boat. It's still engine weight on the transom. So while out on the Snake in 2020. I had it welded again. And stuck a transom saver under it. 👌 As for your shoe... trim it for maximum speed.
Rules got changed in BASS so I couldn’t use the tunnel prop anymore so this became a “fun” and filming boat. The jet is more forgiving than the prop tunnel. Less to tear up.
Never file the bottom facing sides of the impeller it can actually slow the draw of water!!!put a very sharp edge on the top to draw water up..and sharpening the grates helps cut water too
Not a good idea to move the position of the impellor from the back plate. You most likely have increased more cavitation, which will cause premature wear on the back of the impellor. Most likely your issue is the housing needs more submersion, and/or ensure you have not had a change on the bottom of the boat to cause more drag or something to cause agitation of water prior to intake. Do a study on centrifugal pumps to better understand their working dynamics. Pumps are set up initialy per engineered design, so proabably at it’s optimum with set up from factory.
Can't believe how much money these guys spend for a 2.00 fish. But I guess they call it having fun. Take some of that money donate to a Orphanage or homeless shelter. I guarntold yall it will make you feel better about life.😊

My flatbottom will run a lot shallower than your tunnel. I can run down to a inch of water with same motor on a 17 ft lowe. Also that tunnel kills your speed. I'm hitting 40mph with my flat
@@OttDeFoeFishing let's go lol seeing that my whole rig rides a lot higher than yours . And that tunnel does absolutely nothing to protect the bottom of your boat. So as soon as you knock a whole in your rig your done, probably more likely than me ripping my shoe off lol as your boat bottom sits way deeper than my shoe does lol let's see you running in a inch of water 💧🤪 I'll post a video of me doing it after you fail lol it can be over sand so you don't wreck your tunnel. (No ledge rock here) lol
@@benkrause3321Who cares? So if you’re done patting yourself on the back, we’ll all just move on. Oh yeah, I’ll stick with my tunnel too. Fifteen years and I haven’t cracked a transom or bottom yet.
winter time is when we crank the old jets out to go gigging, awesome video sure to help anyone who needs to fix something
It’s a good idea to use a hand pump for the grease. Those high pressure grease guns can invert seals.

Thanks, I just bought a older boat with a jet pump and this video was very helpful 👍
Glad it was
Great video. I’m newer to jet boats but have been enjoying mine for a couple years now and this video helps.
Very helpful! Love running a jet up the rivers.
Fine emery cloth the liner and the cutting edge of the impeller will help to
Well done and educational.

Thanks Ott a bunch for those tips. We will check out ours as well.
Great video Ott currently trying to find a Jet Drive Kit for my 75 4 stroke Yamaha I’m knew to the Jet Drive world any advice would be appreciated 👍
Very informative. Thanks!
Love this type of video Ott!
Impeller is SS. Merc does it smart. Yamahas come with aluminum.

Great video Ott! Im curious what model Tracker your running?
Using a crescent wrench on the impeller nut is wild. I'm about 99.99% sure there is a torque spec for that.😮
Good video!

Otter you have really got to get in a local derby with that boat!Would make for a great video
I’ve got some of it. Check out the Black Friday video.
Never got it in my notifications! You know how UA-cam can be.Will check it out 👍
I believe mercury jets have stainless steel impeller and Yamaha uses aluminum.

Not really 😂 maybe .5 MPH
They don’t make them anymore I think. Can’t find any on the website

Luke W. I have the same boat and motor and average 3.5 miles to 4 miles per gallon.
I get 27 mph most of the time and it burns 8 gph. If you want to compute it out 😂
I measured what I ran on Google earth then went back and filled up and divided it out
@@OttDeFoeFishing I love your river boat, I have the same rig and have made similar modifications to mine.
Same here horrible milage 60/40 bought a new 4 stroke. unbelievable milage and so quiet. Well worth the money
Scared me when you broke out the framing hammer to bend those tabs down. 😂
Appreciate the videos 🙏

I left it as it was. No I don’t on my jet. I just trim it down

Did you see a performance gain?
Ott you need a rubber mallot
and a clip removable plyers
Why did you switch from the prop tunnel hull to a jet?

Good time to get a new cooling pump impeller in.
did it work?did you get your speed back?
Not really. Maybe 1 mph
Is this a re upload.. I swore I saw this video before 😵💫
I was thinking the same thing!!
It is. I had to make a few changes to it. I had some details wrong.

No, that is exactly what should not be done. Go to outboard jets, the best how to info

Telling someone how to spend their money is foolish, but I imagine you’re just jealous
Sounds like u don’t put on fish lol
Impeller and wear ring are stainless steel
not on mrecs aluminum prop alloy ring. Stainless can be bought.
