    A couple tips to those looking to service your impeller assembly:
    -The washers that come with the jet pump seem to be thick, remember you can get them in varying thickness to help with shimming it, just keep in mind the overall thickness of the washer group when trying to find your sweet spot.
    -If you need to replace the washer that holds the nut in place, it is called a tab washer, make sure you get one in a material that will work with your existing materials, you don’t want to cop out and buy a quickest/easiest tab washer only to have it start a chemical reaction within the rest of your assembly costing you way more in the long run.
    I used to be in industrial sales, these are a few things most non-industry people may not think of.
    Keep up the great videos!

    One thing I learned at outboard school was to check clearance between liner and impeller with feeler gauge. Actually adjust to thousandths of an inch

    I like slide on the impeller without the key, then slide on sleeve (with my adjusted washers). You can then spin the impeller to double check it doesn’t rub on the sleeve. Then slide it all off and for final reassemble. Cheers!!

    The easiest way for me to check clearance on the wear ring is to spray paint the inside of the wear ring and install it. I only put 3 nuts on the jet foot and turn the engine over with the starter a couple times. I shim it out until it removes some paint and back it out 1 shim.

      Slather the cone where you see marks with lapping compound and improve your tolerance. Wipe the crud out, good to go.

    The wings on your jet foot do good on the lake and had shop make a set them out of stainless and adds strength to the foot and they keep the foot from sucking every little wave you go over. Make out of stainless they are very hard to bend to and protects your foot and the do help steering too.

    I usually just put the impeller in with the shims I believe I need without the nut, I then put the sleeve in and hold it up by hand pressure only, I then slide the impeller up and down to see how many more shims I need to add or take out. Its fast and easy.

    Alvin- I have a very similar setup- Hog Island + Tohatsu jet. At 2:10 in video- I noticed you have a plate attached to hull that looks like it might protect the impeller grill from big rock strikes. Is that what it’s for? Also noticed you have two “phalanges” on either side of the impeller grill. What are those for? Thanks! Love your videos/ soundtracks

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
      @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing  2 роки тому +3

      The plate is a splash guard. It cuts down on the water spraying up from the foot. The fins are called deep water fins I believe. Outboard Jets sells them. They help to keep the pump from sucking air in choppy water or if you trim the engine way up.

    Greetings and thanks for the informative, great video. How do you re-smooth out the scratches on the surface of the wear ring/sleeve ??
    And will it interfere with the tight tolerances needed between the impeller and the sleeve?

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing

    Alvin what is gap tolerance supposed to be between liner and impeller? If I'm hitting slightly just file impeller (very) lightly?I took shim from top. Now seem to have a lot of gap

    • @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing
      @AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing  3 роки тому +1

      I think it's supposed to be 1/32. I learned a trick from the folks at outboard jets. They said to tape 2 business cards to each blade before you put the sleeve and foot back on. Tighten it up and the cards will make sure that the liner is aligned with the impeller. Once you start it up the cards will come out. There is a little play in the foot and it can get out of alignment with the impeller.

    • @user-ur5hv6yn8k
      @user-ur5hv6yn8k Рік тому

      The leading edge of the impeller should be 1/32 , the clearance between the impeller and wear ring should be .015 inches

    I'm new to pumps and my pump doest have the power it should, I've been told. I've heard people talk about shimming the impeller due to lost power but I'm unclear as to what that means... Thanks Alvin keep the videos coming.
