  • In this video I demonstrate how to change out the impeller for an outboard jet pump. If you just need to adjust your impeller or change out the liner, this video will explain how to accomplish this maintenance as well.
    I always suggest you use a qualified marine mechanic for any engine work.

    Awesome video, just bought one on a two stroke Suzuki, it wouldn’t get out of its own way 😮 ordered new impeller and flange as the old ones were shot! Looked 3x worse than the used one you showed, this boat was straight from Montana to now South Georgia. Very strange smooth rocks caught in the pickup fins, nothing like them here…..thanks for the knowledge 👍

    Great video my jet just started to loose performance, so I am pretty sure a shim adjustment is needed. The business card trick is a great one, thanks for sharing!

    What kind of grease and pump do you use

    • @ridgetoriveroutdoors
      @ridgetoriveroutdoors  Місяць тому +1

      Mercury 2-4-C. I am not sure about the manufacturer for the pump. You can get that information from your local outboard dealer.

    Good video just did this and gained 5-7 mph. I had 80 hours and ten years on my pump and just one shim gave me performance back

    Very nice video! Gives even a totes n00b like me the feeling that I can do it. The main thing I was unsure of was the key way, but I think I got it now.

    Thank you, great video. One problem I had with greasing I used too big of a grease gun and the pressure blew out my seals. Now I use a small tube of lubriplate 630-AA and a screw on hand pump. Any tips on how low to mount your shoe below your boat and tips on a cavitation plate install?

    • @ridgetoriveroutdoors
      @ridgetoriveroutdoors  3 роки тому

      Correct. Grease guns have a lot of pressure and blow the seals. Cavitation is a trial situation. You have to make an adjustment and see what works for your boat. When the shoe is mounted and you can run in smooth water without cavitation, you should be good. Cavitation occurs most commonly in rough water. Jet pumps are not designed for rough water. Good luck.

    Thank you! Can you do a video on how sharpen an impeller? Maybe use an old one you got just for an example... Thank you!! Maybe another on how to change the shaft, bearings and maybe how adjust and re-shim one that's out of tolerance? I like the business card ideas!!

    Hi I have an issue impeller. Is it normal to have a tiny bit of play in your impeller?

    • @ridgetoriveroutdoors
      @ridgetoriveroutdoors  2 роки тому

      You would have to explain in more detail what kind of play you have. Otherwise you can call me.

    What should I do if the grease doesn't pump through the tube when trying to flush the water out? Thanks

    • @ridgetoriveroutdoors
      @ridgetoriveroutdoors  3 роки тому

      You should talk to your mechanic. Sounds like you might have some bad seals. If this is the case, I would have a mechanic replace them.

    Mine has a key way notch. I hear some come with that. How do I remove?

    • @ridgetoriveroutdoors
      @ridgetoriveroutdoors  3 роки тому

      It should have a woodruff key. You can likely find a video that explains how to remove the woodruff key. If your in doubt, you should talk to your local mechanic.

    • @ridgetoriveroutdoors
      @ridgetoriveroutdoors  3 роки тому

      I have no idea. It all depends on the weight of the boat, and how much weight is in the boat when you plan on using it. You should look at other boats similar to what you are building and see what they are running for power.
