    Had a VRS as a company car, it was mega. Went like the clappers plus it was cheap as chips to run. Loved it, miss it loads tbh.

      A bloke in an Octavia VRS got stopped on a stretch of the M6 not too far from where I live a few years back. Plod clocked him at 153 mph.....

    I agree with you on the fact people seem to be brain washed into SUVs over estates. I've pretty much always had estates, because I've had dogs. I've heard you say in two of these videos that the Mazda 6 is overlooked, granted, the one in the other video was a 2.0 petrol, can't remember if this one in this video was diesel or petrol, but I've just heard so many bad things about the 2.0 sky active diesel in those mazdas. Might a a reason why they get overlooked! Great videos, basically just watching someone, do what I do on auto trader! 🤣🤣🤣

    Around 10 years ago I had an Octavia Mk2 2.0 Tdi Estate. Really practical car, with lots of grunt and economical too. Not sure I'd want a diesel now though, with the increasing possibility of emissions charging zones in many towns and cities in the next few years. Many Local Authorities are going to be seeing clean air zones as the latest cash cow..... I think the Superb actually has both more rear leg room, plus a larger load area than a Merc E class.... Very underrated motor, the Superb.... If you have kids, dogs, or just need lots of room in the back, nothing beats it. Volvo V70/V90 might run it close, but good as Volvo's undoubtedly are, if you drive one then everyone thinks you're an Accountant, a National Trust member, and you play lots of golf.

      Yep, shame that so many good cars will likely become useless or too costly to use for some city dwellers within a year or two

    Hi! Thank you for this wonderful video. I just need your humble advice. I want to buy a family car, estate or MPV, with large boot space and eco-efficient. My budget is btw £5k-7k. So, below I've shortlisted some of them:
    1. Ford Galaxy 2.0 150hp (2013-2017 ~150k miles) £3.5k - £7k
    2. Volvo V70 2.0 D3 R-design (2011 & ~200k miles) ~£3k
    Volvo V70 2.0 D3 R-design (2014 & ~140k miles) ~£7.5k
    3. VW Passat 2.0 TDI (2013 & 125k miles) ~£6
    4. Peugeot 508 2.0 RXH Hybrid4 (2013 & 100k miles) ~£7k
    Your advice is highly appreciated.
    Many thanks.

    Thanks for the vid. Lease on my 2019 Octavia VRS ends in few months. Looking at BMW F10/F11 for under £10k. Though, would opt for the V6 as understand there are timing belt/chain issues with the 4 cylinder engines before 2014.

      Thanks for watching Alex, I love an XF and the 3.0 is a great engine. Just be careful with anything Jaguar Landrover, everything costs serious money when it goes wrong so do plenty of reading on common faults and try and get yourself a proper warranty 👍

      Hyundai/KIA diesels are one of the best out there! I've got an i30 with 1.6 crdi, 145k miles on, running happy, not one fault, not once did the car let me down in over 5 years of ownership (car's getting close to 9 years old) And 1.7 is just a bored out 1.6, essentially the same.
      Petrol ones, yeah....not the greatest.
      And the tax is more and MPG worse because of a) new tax rules as of April 2017, and b) new fuel economy test cycle WLTP, instead of the old one, which always gave completely unrealistic and unreachable figures.

    i wouldnt buy a bmw 520d because the timing chain which is at the back of the engine snaps can cost up to 1500 pounds to replace or a ruined engine

      Yes, they need way more regular servicing than the manual says but if they’re well looked after they’ll serve you well (oil should be changed every 6-8k miles in reality)

    Volvo don't just make good Estates they are the only estate to ever win the touring car championship. At the time Volvo used the 780 so not only a fantastic estate also a great sleeper car to shock boy racers with.

      Yep, even estate cars give you a choice. You can opt for a practical basic load carrier, like an Astra or Mondeo. Or you can go for one of the "lifestyle" type estates, like a 3 or 5 series BMW, an Audi A4/A6, Seat Leon etc..... The likes of the Octavia, Passat etc seem to occupy the middle ground.....

    audi, makes probobly the least reliable cars in europe, the passat will rust like crazy and the mazda 6 diesel is known for problems...what about mentioning the car that was built in your country and has a bigger boot than all of these...honda

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru
      @DefinitelyNotAGuru  2 роки тому

      I’ve personally done over 350k miles in Audis without a single issue (new ones to be fair), I e had 2 Hondas that have been my worst ever cars, both with constant electrical sensor issues and one spitting an auto gearbox. Unusual I know but that’s been my personal experience.

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh 2 роки тому

      Passat doesn't rust anymore than anything else, and is better than some. Lots of 10+ year old ones around, free of rust. Mazda diesel sometimes has issues with blocked oilways in their 6 diesels. Starves the engine of oil and seizes...... 3 to 4 grand - or more - repair bill.
