So I've been asked by a few people to do a list of reliable and relatively affordable used cars (under £5k) that will offer some degree of practicality, reliability, and frugality, basically just good value for money used cars.
This is not a complete list by any means but just a handful of great value reliable used cars.
Let me know what you think in the comments - would you buy that Porsche Boxster for £5k??? Was my choice of the Diesel 1.6 Honda Civic a good one or can you think of a more reliable used car in the UK that will be as cheap to run?
Are these the best cars under 5k in the UK today or are these cheap cars a total disaster? let me know your thoughts.

Got that exact Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 outside , its only car I got from auction recently that needs nothing. Love it! Good advice here. My Ceed just sold this morning, great car. And my personal V70 2.4 did 260k without missing a beat. Only sold it on as wife fancied something new!

Great video. I've been shopping around for a while for a small family car for the same budget. I ended up settling on a Kia Venga 3 (13 reg) for 4 grand. Would definitely recommend one to anyone shopping in the same market. Not the most exciting cars, granted - but very reliable and deceptively spacious.

Wow, thanks! Golf Plus is often overlooked by a decent enough car. I'd 100% avoid the 1.6 diesel if you do lots of short runs and if you get the 2.0 TDI make sure it's been very well serviced - they're not as bulletproof as many think they are.

It's fascinating, as I typically source used cars for between £3-5,000 for private clients, so I spend a lot of time perusing Auto Trader like this. A £5,000 budget used to typically get a Swift from a generation later (I sourced a 2015 one for less than that last March), but given that used car prices have gone up so much since then, maybe it is best to get one of the last ones of the first generation. By the way, absolutely love Mark I Kia Cee'ds, they are some of my favourite reasonably priced used cars, they do drive well and tend to be better for dependability than a typical Focus, Astra or Golf, but it does depend on the example, of course.
