I will continue watching and subscribing. At the end of your video you were talking about less subscribers and having less people watching. I am in the IT field and can give you a little help. UA-cam has recently changed a lot of things for reasons I won't get into. This tip will help with current subscribers mostly (it should help with others as well). A lot of you current subscribers are no longer getting your videos in the 'Home' feed. What they have to do is: 1. Go to your channel 2. Click the bell icon -> a prompt will display 3. Click the checkbox 'Send me all notifications for this channel' 4. Click the 'Save' button. They have the ability to change the current settings on how they get notifications from subscribed channels. Anyway, if you need more insight let me know and I can get you some screen shots via my email. Sending this in a message to you as well. Hope this helps and God Bless!

So my kid is correct, I have been a Dinasoar for a very long time!! My rail was a 125 hp 1835cc. It was a High Jumper midengine sand rail. I built my own trans, first by swapping the ring gear and installing a Super Beef A Diff. Later on I changed the 4:37 to a 4:86. I built one with a 5:12 also. The stock trans wouldn't handle the 1835s without the heavy duty side plate. It split the case. Anyway, this made me feel even older! I dealt with shops like Small Car Specialities and you could go in and buy a Motorola Alternator kit. It was a serious improvement over the generator! Sure are a lot of better items than we had in the 80s!!
I first saw the engine in front of the gearbox on those VW's in one of my old bosses Formula VW circuit car open wheel deal...It had a plate over the shift rod because the guy behind could easily tap you into neutral mid corner.
Interestingt to hear you talk about reversing the transaxle drive. I have a VW engine and trans bike that I have gradually refined over the years, with a steel shaft through the diff, driving a sprocket. Just wonder if you have ever felt the need to build a bike of this type ?

oh, what an eye opener. ive been wanting to make a mid engine buick v6 trike and didnt think the vw transaxle would hold up. its a turbo riviera stock. only 200hp/ 300 torque. fuel injected. this would be a perfect setup. i dont know how to setup the shifter linkage with it in mid engine format though. irs, mid engine, springer sugar bear front and hiway gears. might keep up with rice rockets for a while. =)

Excellent information!!! You reference your drag motor's HP numbers. Do you know what the peak torque is? If not, if you can give me an RPM where you are making peak HP I can usually get in the ballpark since HP/torque cross at 5252 RPM. Thanks... Reason I ask, I want to do this but with a different engine which may produce more torque but have the same peak HP.
subbed.... sooooo i have a bus axle with gear boxes on axles in my race buggy .... i can remove those boxes and it becomes a midengine transmission? thats my understanding from your brief comment on us trans....

I am about to buy my first bug and might buy some parts to start a motor build if I have any money left over in my budget. I have build a few hot rods and finished my last motor last fall ( A pretty hot vortec 350 sitting in a lifted chevy 4X4 ) and am looking for a new project. I decided I wanted a bug as I have never owned one. Was wondering if you could help me with a combination. The car is going to be a weekend cruiser and street strip car, well probably more of a have fun going to the store on my days off car. I want a motor that is a little reliable but quick. My thought is to use a super case to build a 1776 with the following parts, Welded stock crank with 8 dowel, stock forged rods and forged pistons. Any one know were to buy a stock welded crank and stock forged rods? Was thinking of using 044 CNC Mini Wedge port heads with compression set to 9.0, port matched intake manifolds and 44 IDF carbs. I know there is a lot more to think about than just these parts but just want to make sure these parts match ok. Any thing I should change? I know Chevy stuff like the back of my hand but this is all new to me. Just looking for a street car that feels like a hot rod with a rough idle and has a temperament. Is 9.0 compression too much for 91 octane with this set up? Cam, heads or carb ok? Should I build a larger motor with a smaller cam? Being a bug person would you rather have a small motor like a 1776 with a large cam like the Engle W120 or a large motor like a 2110 with a mild cam like the W110? And yes I already know larger motor will have better idle with same size cam. I use to race in mud drags for about 3 years and been around racing and hot rods off an on my while life just new to the bugs. I have a 73 super beetle and when I replaced my tail light bulbs they were thickly coated with corrosion. I cleaned them and replaced with new bulbs and now they rattle loose. So I'm getting new taillight assembly but I don't know the guts of the assembly. Was just wondering if you could do a disassemble for us?

You can flip the the ring gear in a SSC case. It's not easy, but it can be done.

yes you are correct the ring gear is on the opposite side form a bug ,, it you take the boxes off it will work for a mid engine ,

I've got several swingarm trans axles that I'm wanting to switch to irs so if you switch that one over would like to see the video
Is it not possible to use a modified Lenco or Liberty type transmission? Or do you have to stay 100% VW driveline to be class legal?

So if the oil light is on really dimly is that is the alternator?

Keep looking, there's more to it than this guy knows. This video was 13 min longer than it had to be for his info on just flipping the pinion gear.
