Love watching a craftsman at his work.
He builds my box !
So glad I bought my transmission here an 15 years later it's still going hard 👏
I would want this guy to do my transmission for my vw this is a true professional of the trade who takes pride in his work true craftsman
I would literally pay extra to have my transaxle “Lito-built”. As in, put my order in so he builds it, even if it costs more and I have to wait longer.
Absolutely SUPERB video! It’s great to see this done on a professional level which really helps us home hobby builders see a few tricks of the trade. Thanks and well done!
thanks for the feedback! It was a pleasure to watch Lino put it all together
Anyone who has square jaw visegrips has clearly spent time wrenching on VWs! Excellent job Lino!
Just want to thank Rancho Performance transaxle as the winner of this years (2024) Blackstar camp out transaxle rebuild. i’m stoked to say the least. I picked up a perfect barnfind a 66 type 1 was sitting for 36 years before i started restoring . looking forward to showing with my Rancho sticker and box.
precision puzzles, just lovely 😅
Great build EMPI and Rancho! When are you guys going to make a 5 speed kit?
They already do!! 😂
I have one built by them it was 6500 bucks and I did have to give them a $600 core that was reusable
Its clean, clean, clean........
This workshop is probably cleaner than my kitchen......!!!!
I love the way that attention is applied to every detail!
This guy is awesome….it doesn’t come better than perfect 👍
Lino, One of the most informative and clear, to the point videos I've ever seen on UA-cam, Thank you for your time and knowledge. Transaxles have always been a mystery to me and it is great to understand a little of how they work. Cheers!
Lino is a stud!! That was awesome to watch!!
I can't wait to see how they build a street and strip transmission well did gears.😊
Thats what you call a Master Craftsman!
You can tell this gentleman is a professional at this....not even a sweat bead on his forehead. Awesome build sir!!
It's funny he asked Lino if he was a good cook, he is a friend of mine and he is an amazing cook. Good job and great video.

Beautiful work
What a craftsman.
Very cool watching a craftsman at work. 👍🏼👍🏼
I love watching a true craftsman at work. Wow!
Lino, YOU ARE AWESOME, Brother! I'm in my mid seventies already, but I too have rebuilt a few Bug trannies over the years, but NEVER as fast and skillfully as you in such a short time. I love and truly appreciate the CLEANLINESS and POLISHING you do to the parts. It REALLY makes a difference on the durability of VDUB trannies. I am presently working on one now for my one and only grandchild, hoping to have it running by the end of this month. Thank you for the many tips you have provided us DIY's with this video.
That’s was way cool to watch. Dude is way talented. Thanks for sharing
IT'S A GREAT JOB YOU DO MAN
i want this guy to build my countach transaxle.... nice and strong, smooth and quiet and clean... done!

Great build, Lino, just as good as your salsa! You're the man.
This will be invaluable when I finally lay my hands on a second tranny I can build up offline. Thanks!
That was Awesome Bro, Can't wait to rebuild my Volks and get an Epic Street Trans. Totally Awesome Rebuild....😎😎
Nice!!+😊
Aí sim aprendi já sei o que eu tenho que fazer nos próximos
My next transmission will be sourced from Rancho!
good call!
So epic
A great attest to fine craftsmanship. A place many fear to go.. Excelente trabajo! felicitaciones a Rancho!! Saludos desde Peru.
I love the trans jig. Just like the one I used back about 40 years ago.
the right tool for the job!
Te rifas!.....Greetings!
Great video Lino! Please do a Gene Berg
5-speed build video and explain how the 5-speed works.
And don't forget, torque it to German spec... GUT-N-Tight!
Nice. I'm going to need a swingaxle with 1960 axles for a kit car with gearing for a ej25 subaru.
Belo trabalho. Tudo muito limpo e bem organizado. Ajuste perfeito. Teste finalizado com sucesso. Muito bom mesmo. Pena que eu não falo inglês. Não entendi nada na conversa. Mas da montagem entendi tudo. Parabéns. Eu sou Rone de Salvador BA Brasil. Obrigado. Valeu 👍
❤❤❤
I love my Rancho Pro Street gearbox. (no burn-outs ;-) )
👍👍👍
So niec work perfekt
I'd be interested in a 5 speed!
😎👍
Love to see what a bullet proof (heavy duty trans) build looks like ??
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I got a five speed from them basically a berg it was 6500+ a $600 core a good core Rancho awesome
Wow. Should've washed BEFORE the test fit on the needle bearing.
The Nylock nuts look like Wurth ones lol.
Around here where I live, all the old Vw guys would say to never take apart a transaxle that you’d never get it back together, I see that this is a tedious unit to tackle for sure.
it takes a craftsman to make it work!
Amazing work. Imagine the Germans coming up with the first few and then mass producing them. Just Amazing really.
sehr gut!
Outstanding Performance and I’d like Ya to build my 72 Superbeetle Motor and Tranny!
I think they only do transmissions.
Very interesting!
However, in the beginning of the video, after welding on a harden gear, THEN drop it in water.
I about lose it. When doing that, you put micros cracks in the welds and the surrounding metal.
You also made that gear MORE brittle.
I've been working with metals, welding and microscopes for the DOD for MANY years.
The proper way is bury your part in sand, let it cool slowly. At the least, let it air dry.
thanks for your feedback David
back in the 2000s i had a 67 Bug that was a money pit.. lol i went Rancho shorten 3rd and 4th. by far the funniest vehicle I've ever owned. the hook of the take off and the down shift to 2nd from 3rd going around a corner, or just down shifting to 2nd because someone wants to run'um. i will always have luv for the Bug. even tho it cost me an arm and a leg.. lmfao.
Regards, it would be excellent if you made a video of a drag swingaxle assembly
stay tuned more great stuff coming soon!
I don't work on transmissions but I do a lot of ring and pinion gear work. It doesn't show in the video, you checked your gear pattern but how do you change the pinion depth? Are there shims you can ad or subtract under the pinion head? and, is there any pinion pre load? On your backlash setting, there are no screw cap adjusters, assuming there are shims outside the carrier bearings that you can move from side to side, and no bearing caps to torque. Interesting and nice work.
Also, are there different ring and pinion gear sets available, higher ratios for better highway driving? And do you have a posi unit for these? Thank You very much.
Ron Z.
Torque wrench?
I’m a fan of you for VW repairs , but I think you forgot to tell the audience of your channel , you need to use and open wrench maybe 7mm OR a small clamp pliers to hold the clutch cable from turning , if cable turn while you turning the clutch wing nut , cable will brake or worst , will get crumble inside the tube the problems will happen.
my .002 has 835.000 miles n it ! I don't think it could be used as a core ? It will pop out of 4th on the JFK bridge , but its been doing that for 38 years .
sounds like it should be in a museum to be preserved!
Just stay off the JFK bridge and you’ll be fine……..What year bus do you have?
@@tomcoryell 71 with a 72 trans.
What do you change for burnouts i need to know please go back and get that footage please please 🙏
I have a 1977 bus how much for a transmission thanks
That man is a professional! Would like to have him build my next transmission.
I would of thought polishing surfaces ( that arnt oil pressure fed) would wear quicker ,as the oil has nowhere to sit on the surface (in the micro undulations) , like a lathe bed which is scrapped and not polished. Whats your thoughts? Great informative video.
#Lino
Does the same barber do both these guys?
yes we graduated Barber school together
"Nice and smooth no noise "
What is this @ 19:36?
No donuts?? 😂
Are the Empi Rhino housings made in Brazil like the Empi/ Autolinea engine cases?
No they are not-the EMPI case was designed and engineered in-house
Thank you !
I am doing a EJ5 Subaru swap on my VW Vanagon. What transmission would you recommend?
Hey Chris Reach out to EMPI authorized distributors and transmission experts Rancho Transaxle or Wright Gearbox for guidance
@@EMPI_Inc Call you tomorrow. Thank you.
True craftsmanship...but I don't like seeing a metal hammer used on metal shaft ends. A brass or dead blow hammer would be better.
thanks for your feedback
How much horsepower would something like this hold?
Hi Mateo we will ask Rancho for their guidance and share with you asap
Rancho indicates that their Pro Street transaxle will handle up to 170hp and that they offer racing and high performance builds as well
@@EMPI_Inc OK cool
What torque rating do these carry? 200, 300?
please contact Rancho Transaxle directly at (714) 680-6737
Does Rancho do 5 speeds?
please contact Dave at Rancho, their number is (714) 680-6737
Yes they do. They get the kits from Berg and build them.
this would be a great video if it wasnt for the guy in the background going yep. yep. yep. yep. yep. yep.
thanks for your feedback
THANK you for the update.
If this weather keeps on keeping on you should be able to drive all winter.
57 degrees around Eau Claire yesterday .
Is there anyone who builds VW 6speed Auto transaxle?
you mean for an aircooled application? sounds like a trick piece, Rancho has done some Auto trans work, give Dave and his guys a call (714) 680-6737
Nice to see someone NOT being a pussy and leaving the gloves where they belong. (in the box)
Lino would probably burn through a box a day!
R&P pattern was way shallow.
thanks for your feedback
you should remake this video without the annoying suit in the background
the good news is that this video is helping VW folks fix their transmissions! Thanks again Lino and Rancho!!
