As an American I must say I am extremely disappointed in the deadness of the audience. If SR was playing that song almost anywhere in Europe the entire crowd would dancing and singing along.
I was at this gig and the crowd was very small. The crowd that was there was very dedicated though but Coachella mainly caters to people in their twenties and as such most attendees were incredibly young when the band broke up, and as a result they hadn't heard of The Stone Roses. Even when they were popular they didn't make much of a splash over here. Sometimes that just happens. Kudos to the Coachella organizers that decided to bill them as headliners despite the fact that they were never popular over here. There's not one major festival over here that would've paid them that respect, let alone booked them in the first place. So stop trashing American's for not going apeshit during this set. As far as bands go this was by far the best sounding band I heard all weekend. The main stage a Coachella has one of the best sound systems out there and they lifted the band up to the next level. They were absolutely spot on and completely blew me away.....but Ian Brown sounded really bad. I know he was never a fantastic vocalist to begin with, but this was the worst I've ever heard him. Still, it wasn't enough to take away from how good the set was as a whole. I really hope the poor attendance for their sets at Coachella doesn't discourage them from ever coming back here, because they have a lot of dedicated fans here and I imagine they could have a pretty successful tour in the US if they played in some 2000-3000 person venues.
Interesting, my friend said he was going to see them and was really stoked to finally see them after all these years. I didn't have the heart to tell him that they were going to be shit live because... Ian Brown. He came back from the festival quite disappointed at how bad they were. He said Blur completely blew them away.
I agree the crowd does not realize the glorious performance they are seeing but at the same time thank God these guys even got back together to do this performance.
You don't have to sing well to be a good singer eg: Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash etc,,,,,.....I agree that in Ian's case, as in the singers I mentioned, it's about the "attitude & character" in his/their voice than the actual pitch but tbh this performance is shocking.
Music can be whatever the listener wants it to be or mean, any song can be interpreted in a million ways. The stone roses weren't perfect they were fucked up but guess what, so is this country and there for The Stone Roses fitted in just right and expressed the nations feelings in every chord they played. As above, some of arguably the best musicians throughout the decades couldn't sing or even play there instruments that well. This performance isn't great but not many bands can jump on a world wide tour after 20 years of silence.
Jack Morris Some singers can't cut it live: I understand. Your are competing with other frequencies. Brownie sounded great on L.p., even Leckie confirmed it. Bit flat here. But Brownie brought swagger.
I would've given my right arm to see them at Coachella (or anywhere for that matter)! It kills me to think of all the kids out there who wouldn't have the faintest of who the Stone Roses are and what they did for rock-n-roll. They changed my life when I was 13.
I remember staying up all night to buy tickets when they first went on sale for the Phoenix Park, Dublin gig when the Roses got back together + going absolutely crazy at the gig itself, digging every minute of it, jumping around, singing every word along with everyone else there. I see thi vid and think there's something deadly wrong in some parts of the world...

As an Englishman I have to agree that the British bands have led the way since the sixties. However, don't beat yourselves up over it Emma Mullins. Probably because most Americans never heard of Stone Roses for obvious reasons as their music has never made it in the states.
Freedom Of Nomad What? The festivals or Stone Roses. Are the American Festivals got Maximum security or what?
Sadly this will go down as one of the worst Roses live performances, if you watch the full set it was truly dreadful, especially when Ian was singing.
