You didn't have to share anything about your divorce, but thank you for sharing and explaining. I am sad for both of you, 8 years is a great deal of investment in time, physically and emotionally. I am glad that you two can be civil, but it is ok to be sad. A divorce is a form of death, so it is ok to be sad and grieve even if both parties are happy to be getting a divorce. So please allow yourself time to allow your emotions to be expressed externally and internally, publicly and privately, so you may remain healthy emotionally. Don't be afraid to use services that are provided for people who are going through or have gone through a divorce. I wish you strength, emotionally, which will give you strength physically.

Do you think he will go back to the US? I was thinking it may be harder for him to adjust since he's not Japanese. There's a book called Single on Purpose by John Kim and there's a group online with them that helped me realize what's the meaning of being Single. It might help you.
Our divorce didn’t have to do with environmental factors fortunately. He said he will stay in Japan at least for a little longer! And thank you for the recommendations!
Just saw some videos from you on things you wish you knew about japan before moving and red flags for companies. Pretty crazy that the next video I see is that you got a divorce... and from an eight-year relationship. I'm currently in the process of getting a divorce as well, which is hard to type... but is life. I also plan on moving to Japan as well, which is pretty scary to think about, especially being older, but glad to see others in my shoes (though, I guess you already lived in Japan). Last year at this time I thought I had the perfect marriage of almost 33 years and had no ideal there was any problem. Our only son was in West Point and my wife had everything she needed, or so I thought. Anyhow she soon ghosted/disappeared without even saying what was wrong. With a bogus restraining order, I may never know what caused the divorce!!!! Life moves on for me now! The story of the divorce:
