We just machined a 1923 Ford for valve seats. As luck has it, nobody on the planet had adjustable lifters, so, the new stainless valve stems are too short with solid lifters. Solution valve stem caps with inside shims a racing item. Two months later the backordered adjustable lifters came in. Oh well we'll use them on the next one.
I love a good running flathead. On the other hand watching the process of adjusting the valves is making me rethink selling my '51 Chevy with a 235 for a '49 Ford coupe with a flathead. The Chevy takes about 30 seconds per valve to adjust
Can somebody make a tool to compress the valve spring easier while the keeper is installed, every flathead valve install i watch shows someone trying to install ,while the tool slips off spring 3-6 times.
I need someone to help me go through my '36 Ford Flathead V8 engine. Its gonna need to be pinned because of a crack in the coolant jacket between cylinder 3 and 4.

Any info on where to purchase the valve position adjustment tool? Would make adjusting valves alot easier! Thanks for the great video!!
The Boss, Vern TARDEL
Thank you for the video. Do sock flathead valves have a lock nut at the bottom by the lifter?
Old guys rule.
What size is your pry-bar (end) used to squash the spring, allowing you to insert the keeper?
Awesome tutorial, I wish you were my neighbor! Where do you prefer to purchase parts from? Thank you! Dave

I wonder why he chose not to use a grinding stone to seat the valves?

And yet again i run into these people calling the Internal Combustion Engine a MOTOR ! Get your gearheads ass out of Neutral Its an ENGINE !!!
Right, engines are fuel..motors are electric.
