Graduated Navy boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL. in March of 1986, Company 027.............coldest Winter of my Life!!! 20 years later, retired a Chief........enjoyed my Career! Good Luck everyone!!
Leaving for bootcamp May 9th swore In two days ago 😤💪🏼
Good luck
Best advice I can give is enjoy your time before boot camp. If you are in relatively good shape (or hell even decent or slightly bad shape) you will be fine. One thing you NEED to know is how to swim. That and not passing your physical exam will keep you in rtc.
Do not apply for any jobs except ship staff in navy boot camp. Ship staff at least for some if not most ships allow you to skip some of the more mundane tasks in exchange for cleaning and more consistent watches.
Pretty much do you want to have more watches or do you want to have to deal with a lot of the bs with your divisions
Next pack light and bring easy entertainment. If you like to draw bring a drawing journal. If you like to read bring a book (though sometimes that can get taken but can't hurt to try!
And the first week will hands down be the worst. We call it P-days. It's actual mental hell. Just follow orders, keep your head down and if something is wrong say so. If you are missing an item SAY SOMETHING. literally the best advice I can give is if you are not matching up with your section you are in the wrong.
Another thing is if it's not to late go into BOOTCAMP as blind as possible. Just know your physical requirements and that you need to pass swim. Everything else can be learned there
And one last thing. You will get sick, you will have to get beat and do things you would never want to do. Just mind your own business. Do what you are told and pay attention. The sickness will go away hopeful a bit into the weeks or you will just have to wait until after A-school. Do not do anything stupid. Luckily my division wasn't trigger happy with the ASMOs (another term for being sent back in training) but being sent back in bootcamp is the worst possible feeling. Genuinely do not spend more time at Great Lakes than you have too. Know your knowledge. And have some fun! BS when no one is looking. You only go through bootcamp once but understand that work comes before play
Good luck recruit

Go in with a heart and mind to learn with a heart of gratitude and willing to learn what you don’t understand
I live in the Dominican Republic, non US citizen and can not wait to join the navy and to face the challenges one day!
Man I have family that live 1 minute away and hearing the navy at night brings me joy
I went in 1977..it was like boy scout camp..the best time of my life..worked the flight deck on the USS Saratoga
That brings back so many memories.
It was a tough experience. It sharpened and polished me much more than before i entered the navy.
Stay strong!!
Billions of Dollars are going to fund all the Navy Ships, and At least you have the Experience but i'm sad for the taxpayer.

Although it's been over 40 years watching this brought back a lot of memories (when I was in females went to Orlando FL for boot camp) and my first reaction off the bus was just like the one guy said "What did I get myself into". I made up my mind that I was NOT going to fail and what a proud feeling when you graduate and show the world that you are stronger than you think
I went through Marine Boot Camp years ago. This seems less intense but still demanding for sure. Kudos to my sailor brothers and sisters!
That black instructor is the unsettling kind. He seems laid back and seems to smile but he’s all business and no nonsense.
@@jupiterinaries6150
All the instructors went through what you’re going through now

My son left tonight. Big Boy! I didn't lose a son, I gained a den/man cave where his room is. Thanks Uncle Sam. Also, I had to explain to my wife that the Dollar General located next to the recruiting center IS NOT affiliated with the United States military.
I’m happy to leave my past and become better.
Shipping late July . Excited and nervous
What month did you receive your ship date?
That shock and awe factor is what I'll always remember. The what did I get myself into. Let me tell you that transition from civilian to recruit. Is a process in that of itself. You maybe there for 8 weeks. But it will feel like you've
been there for 8 months. Like you've lived your whole entire
over there.
And the second you start Basic Training, you can't wait to get out 🫡🇺🇸
leaving in september. good luck to the future sailors🫡
This is an old video. But I do have a question for anyone to answer: When did the Navy switch from Dungarees to Camouflage uniforms? And why green and not blue or gray like a ship is colored?
I swear in next month, I can't wait :))
Got an instagram I would love to ask you questions about it
Do they still sing 'Anchors Aweigh' in the tunnel going from RTC to Mainside?
My shipment date is May 29th. I can’t do a whole lot of pushups. I’m pushing myself everyday and training as much as I can for bootcamp.
Me too june good luck
Do your best not to say "can't" It's better to say I am not able to right now, but in the future I will. Positive vibes for you.👍🙏

These videos did not calm my nerves my Grandson just joined the Navy and is in boot camp now and I’m worried to death till I get to talk to him again can’t use his phone. I’m sure I’ll be able to relax when I hear from him. God Bless all keep the strength
be proud, not fearful. fear shows you don't have faith in him.
Im trying to decide between the navy and the army. I know more about the army in general. But id really like to become a pilot on an aircraft carrier. What were yalls pros and cons of these two branches and what was something you wish you wouldve known before enlisting?
I’m prior Army and considering going Navy. My best advice would be consider which environment you would rather work in, Army operates on land and Navy mostly at sea. And Army has a strong emphasis on teaching combat & survival skills while Navy focuses more on building teamwork abilities since a lot of the work requires co-op. The branches are way more similar than you’d think though, the military operates across all branches through the same basic blueprint. Just do a bunch of research and go with your gut, you got this :)

Amazing guy, I’m however batshit crazy, I wanted to serve at one point but reality became distorted, I wish in my deepest of all wishes that reality was all there was, but it’s like a bad thought everyone has them and everyone’s not well, so I’m not so sure the draft will even be able to lift recruitment
Staying calm
