Air Force, Airman Basic boot camp Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX. August 2nd, 1998 321st Training Squadron. I grew up in Detroit, Mi. The 103 degree heat we endured crawling 300 yards in rocks and dirt and having my T.I. step on my head to keep it down and sweating and swallowing dirt was a wake up like I’ve never experienced. We did 72 hours of this training including base defense, ambush, etc. in the middle of the woods and wildlife and finished with a 12 mile ruck march with 50 lbs of gear. We were constantly under attack, with shots being fired from the woods. We would have to get down and up and down and up with all our gear, sweating in the 100 degree heat. I was 19 years old and I was drooling all over myself after 48 hours. I was in the best physical shape of my life and I remember coming back to our dorms as zombies after that training was secured and laying my head against the shower wall while the water ran over my face and body. Then I saw the Para Rescue men training and heard about their 8 months of training everyday like we did for that 72 hours. Those were real men that had to go through that hell…. I doubt I would’ve made it more than a few weeks or so🤯
