There was proof that the run was unverifiable. TWT explained this in the video.
Unverifiable doesn't necessarily mean cheated, but when it comes to official leaderboards it is important that the runs can be verified.

@@JesseJames_37 If you tell a runner their resource pack is fine to use, then they go and set a world record, and *then* you come back and tell them "no good, do it again" ... that seems like an impossible standard to keep up with.

Everyone saying that they shouldn’t have verified it because of current rules, should then say that ALL WRs placed before the current rules that didn’t adhere to the current rules should be REMOVED from the leaderboards.
The rule that LOLs 6 broke didn’t exist when they ran the seed. The rule was created IN RESPONSE. Meaning that the run was not in any violation of any rules when it was submitted, rather they made up a new rule just to stop that run from being verified
the reason it wasn't verified originally despite technically following the rules when it was submitted was because it was on a seed list and he acted pretty weird about the run when it happened (he took 41 minutes to tell anyone he got it)

My point still stands, for the folks who don’t want it verified because it’s not legitimate, that is valid. If they don’t want it verified because of rules, then it should be based on the rules at the time of submission, or old records should be expunged. That’s all I was wanting to say.
@@tito_me_doe676 fair, but it wasn't verified under the rule that it was possible to check undetectable cheating paired with the fact it on a seed list that basically would make any run unverifiable if they were found on a seed list that small.

What i think speedrun leaderboards should do is add a type of placement to their leaderboard, like a ghost placement if you will, that shows the run's time and placement, but doesn't affect other run's placements, and comes with a disclaimer that it cant be officially verified. that way the runners get the recognition they deserve but also doesn't really risk a fake run getting recognition it doesn't deserve.

Especially if it was a separate board. So then you can know that you are only looking at verified runs. but can also switch to see just all (not fake) runs

There is a great book about this question, which clearly answers the question about exceptions from laws - Aristotle, "Ethics".
Weird to me that they'd even reject the run in the first place. The runner was playing by the rules, as they were declared, at the time the run took place.

@@josephrossow8901 it isn't a justice system, it's a verification system. They found a way to cheat in his setup so they couldn't say he didn't cheat, so no verification.
I fully support the verification I originally thought the initial choice to not allow the run was quite stupid. He’s clearly very talented and has no evidence against him to prove cheating

If laws from the real world were somehow implemented into Minecraft speedrunning, the mod team's initial judgement of LOLs run would have broken the Ex Post Facto law, which basically states that laws created after someone commits an act can't be used to convict someone in court. In this case, the mod team literally made up a rule that specifically targeted LOL's world record run. That was just plain unfair.

@@korok2619 That's a great way of explaining it. And "fairness" is a overrated anyway because there are so many factors that could come into affect, how can we actually define "fair"? For instance, shorter people can have a slight advantage over taller people because the motor signals sent to their hands have a shorter (and thus faster) travel length and so are partly genetically predisposed to have quicker reactions times.

When he showed the leaderboard it didn’t show lol869’s 7:56, did that not get verified.
By default the leaderboard only shows each person's best time, so it only shows the 6:46

lol869 in fact, decided not to submit his 7:56. This was kinda in protest of his 6:46 being rejected, saying that he wanted the leaderboards to ‘be accurate’

This guy is not faster than my friend Kyle. He is so fast that I can’t catch up to him.
I mean, I assume he sent his resource pack files and proved that he wasn’t cheating thanks to the new rule that lets you verify past runs. So I would say this is a good thing. Also, the run was done before the rule was implemented so it should be kept unless they want to get rid of all the other runs that used resource packs before the resource pack ban.

I think verifying the original run at this point was a mistake. Lol896 just claimed a new world record under the current rules, and the sub-7 is still invalid under the current rules. Suddenly verifying an old run that doesn't follow the new rules is just asking for confusion and controversy.
The minecraft speedrun team's response to having inconsistent rules that seem biased, is to be more inconsistent. Seems legit.

Old runs don't have pack rules other than the obvious like xray, full-bright packs, etc.

You can’t 100% verify any minecraft speedrun. There is always that possibility that someone manages to get away with a set seed, or a splice.
They should make their own reset pack for bedrock that doesn't have the weaknesses of the existing ones

Personally, I think if the runner can prove that the resource pack only alters Menu UI (excluding inventory) and not ANY game textures then the pack should be viewed as a skin and not a texture pack. (when it comes to speed running) I think the reset faster packs should be legal. Then again, I am not part of the community, and if they are fine with what it is now then there is no issue. However, in my opinion it was the wrong decision in the first place to reject a run based on rules changed after the run was submitted. The correct decision (even if it took a year) was to let the run stand as valid.

It's kind of a dick move to change the rules in response to a run and then reject the run for breaking those rules. The run should have been accepted in the first place. Rule changes should state when they go into effect.

They probably should have kept it unverified. It's is possible to use resource packs to cheat, the run used one exactly when this was discovered, they don't have a way to confirm it nor deny that he cheated. It's still the rule, there is no other reason to be suspicious about it but they should stick to it.

The run should have remained unverified. The fact is that if this one an unknown runner with their first submission for example, it would never get verified because there's no trust factor. The fact that this run got verified hints at personal relationships and bias, muddying the objective verification of runs with what is essentially a popularity contest (or at the least, requiring you to be a "veteran" to an extent).
I don't have a reason to believe the run was cheated, but that's not the point. Verification should be objective and rigorous. Anything that sways from that harms its legitimacy.
Does that mean we can't trust the verifiers or the leaderboard anymore? Of course not. But we should be very wary of this becoming a trend.
