Very helpful video for me. On the RC remote micro sd card, does it have to be formatted before inserting it, and if so, can it be formated while in the remote or does it need to be formatted on the pc before using in the remote?
Hello Tech Drone Media. Can you please help me with a technical query about the DJI RC? I recently received a replacement RC for a faulty one. I assume the replacement RC has the most recent firmware update. Upon using the replacement RC I have found that the Google maps insert (bottom left of screen) did not include the arrowhead (representing the drone as you show in your video at 06:25) nor the red line (representing the pathway back to the Homepoint) which I previously used to guide the drone back to the Homepoint. Instead, I have the "Compass"-style feature you have shown in your video here at 06:14 (bottom left). Is the "Compass"-style feature a replacement for the arrowhead / red line feature? I have asked DJI about this and their support team have been quite unhelpful. I need to know as I really don't like the "Compass"-style feature and want to revert to the old arrowhead / red line method of tracking and returning my drone to the Homepoint.
No you cannot. The RC is locked. Need the RC-N1 (one you connect phone to) or upgrade to the RC Pro if you want the built in screen -- and the RC Pro is not cheap either.
Only downfall of the RC controller is that they have it locked and we cannot add 3rd party SDK apps (waypoints as example). Need the RC-N1 or the RC Pro for this. The Pro is not cheap so RC-N1 is the way I am forced to go (and spend more $$) so I can get the most out of my Mini 3 Pro.
Is 700 nits brighter than your average phone screen. I'm trying to figure why using this controller is better than using my phone connected to a controller
Are you aware of any way to get around the RC offline maps 3MB map file size limitation? As you know there is a way to download offline maps but you are limited to 3MB files sizes for these map snippets which for me is an area of about ~3miles X 2 miles. So if you want to download maps for a metro area or a reasonable geographic area (e.g., 25mi X 25mi area) you'd have select, download and name MANY MANY MANY map snippets to get map coverage making the offline maps basically unusable IMO. FWIW DJI support claims the limitation is an Android limitation but that claim is in direct conflict with my own research that shows the Android file size limitation for file transfers/download to be ~4GB not the 3MB DJI limitation. So I call it BS. I presume you could tether the controller to your phone but that sort of defeats the purpose of having a controller that works independently from the phone.

They changed it a bit lately, but you switch if it should be drone or the remote that is in the center
