  • ALL THE FLEX! I bought this pen myself a few months ago and have really been enjoying playing around with it. I am by no means an expert with it but it is good fun!

    Glad for this review! I appreciate so the existence of pens that are fun to fiddle with . . . and not be too sorry. I had a Creaper, which wrote fine, after fiddling, as I recall, but Fountain Pen Revolution has taught me that you just have to remember that the flex nib is in charge, not you. So, gave the Creaper to my son, an accountant, to use without worrying about it. He is glad, and so am I. Dang. This sounds so snarky. He is glad! I am glad! Mr. Tardif is innovating in ways that make us want to try new pens. Bless him.

    I love Noodlers inks. Love it!!! The pens are excellent too. However, some seem to miss the QC phase of the production. But, they are easy to work with when replacing or getting them fixed.

    I have a love for the Noodler's inks... buttt no so much for the pens. I have seen some very pretty results from the triple-tale, so kudo's to you for demonstrating it. Thank you Kerry for sharing your videos.

    I also had a tine that was drier than the others. I pulled the nib/feed and gave all the fissures that bring the ink a tooth brushing with strong detergent water. The dry tine now functions fine. This is a thing that happens with a lot of Noodler's pens, and a toothbrush and detergent water is usually the fix.

    I love mine. It fits my large hands and works well for me. I hope someday Nathan will put it out in other colors like the Ahab as I’m one of the weird people who really doesn’t care for demonstrators.

    Great review! I've been astonished by mine. I heat set the feed and opened up the channel a little and I basically can't get it to railroad. Goes through a ton of ink!

    I have the Ahab and bought a Konrad replacement nib to put on my Charlie. I love them both (the Konrad nib+ Charlie is really a great cheap flex option ! If you can handle the Charlie burps...) but they do require a lot of pressure, which dents nice paper and tears through the fibers of less resistent paper -- even when using a writing board-- , which creates a lot of bleedthrough. Do you have to press as hard on the Triple Tail as you do the Ahab ?

    Nice vid. Thanks. Been about 60 years since I owned a fountain pen but arthritis is ruining my handwriting. Thought of fountain pen because of lack of pressure to paper to make one work. Just this weekend, received 1 Wordsworth & Black medium and 3 Noodler's ; Ahab, Charlie, and a Creeper. Strange names but rather nice writers. The W&B is a really attractive pen, metal, hefty and nice in hand. Writes well. The Ahab is also large but light. Flex is firm. I don't have the expected smell I anticipated from many test vids. Don't know nib size but writes medium. Nice flex. Charlie is dropper filled, fine point, clear body and colored cap. Fine point works well with 54th Mass. ink. Very light and size is similar to Creeper. Creeper is fine point, light, smaller diameter than average. So far, Noodler pens are smoother writing than W&B but not as attractive. Trade off's. All this is compared to memory of school pens that were very low priced, light plastic, first try at cartridge fill pens. They leaked badly but (thankfully) ink was washable. My opinion is that the market offering if superior now. In the 60's, dollar school pens and expensive pens of quality were it. Got what you paid for. Now, quality can be had thru the market and being retired is not a block to decent writing instruments. BTW, fountain pen was good decision as no pain while writing and penmanship is improving. Thanks for providing good info to the public.

    I love my Noodler’s pens and inks. I currently have 9 Ahab, 6 Konrad and 5 Nib Creeper pens. My next one will probably be the Boston Safety Pen. But I may add a Triple Tail to my order.
    Have a great day.

    I have the Noodler's Konrad and I bought it for just messing around and playing with. It isn't a bad every day writer. And I don't hate the smell but I don't care for it. I am still trying to air it out. I may pick up this triple tail just to compare.

    I'd say our experiences of this pen are quite similar. I like playing around with it, making fun lettering in different inks for the sake of it. Period. That's it. Might use it to make a short list. But nothing resembling a paragraph. On mine it's the left tine that tends to railroad first. I can go back and fill in the gaps with reverse writing. PS I also get a weird pleasure from the admittedly strange smell.

    After your review of the Boston Safety Pen I bought one in Chestnut finish (delighted with it thank you) and I can confirm it is in fact also a flex nib. Do you know if the triple tail take the 308 cartridges?

    I have the pen, and definitely has a lot of issues. Burping/I consistent flow, railroading and all sorts. I will try heat setting the feed and hope it improves, but it has certainly been a difficult pen Tu use, let alone find an ink that works well with it.

  • @bobburrier6560
    @bobburrier6560 2 роки тому

    I bought a Triple Tail recently and have had a few issues. One is that the pen dries out rapidly. I hate to grease every screw thread (even the end of the cap), but that is probably what it will take. The second is that the section is made of two cylinders and when ink gets between them it is nearly impossible to clean. I can't figure out if the two cylinders are separable or not. Lastly, while not exactly a firehose, the trail of ink left behind on the paper far exceeds other flex pens I have. All these points together have caused me to move on to other flex pens.

    Gorgeous handwriting! Have you tried the Neponset? It’s a different Noodler’s pen with a music nib.
    It had some bad reception due to railroading a few years ago, but Nathan tweaked it since and in my experience, it has more flex than the triple tail (also wetter!). It comes in ebonite too!

      It's still a poor flex nib on a poor pen. The best flex nib out there, or nibs, rather, are the steel and the gold FPR Ultra-Flex nibs on good FPR pens.

    • @LordTywinLannistertheBased
      @LordTywinLannistertheBased Рік тому

      @James Ritchie I feel like FPR has equally bad QC on their pens at times. I got two, and both leaked like crazy and refused to work when needed.

    I have a hard time with noodlers inks on tomoe River paper. I love the colors and often by them but it Seems like I can go back weeks later and smudge it. I purchased the triple tail and the times were mis aligned out of the box, like one overlapping another. I adjusted it so they could sit side by side but then put it back in the box and never inked it up. I have had it for months. I currently home receiving from shoulder surgery so maybe no time like the present? Maybe I will ink it up tomorrow. The Ahab was my first fountain pen that lead me down the rabbit hole. It wasn’t perfect but obviously not enough to deter me. :-)

    I don't like the triple tail, or anything by Noodler's. The best flex nib I've found by far is the FPR Ultra-Flex, either steel or gold. Not only in the nib far better, it goes on much better pens. If you're good enough, you can make any flex nib work, but the Ultra Fles, simply works better and easier.

    Regarding the Ahab, I got it to work every time by following the instructions scrupulously. Take the entire pen apart, wash all the parts in soapy water, scrub with a sponge, re-assemble the pen, and heat set the nib. I did this last year, and the pen has written with no problem since then. I think that in all that time I had one hard start after noting having used the pen for a few weeks. I am guessing that there will also be less railroading with the Triple Tail if one follows these steps.

    I'm thinking about picking one up, I have the FA nib as well and love it after getting the ebonite feed. Do you have to put a good amount of pressure to get the triple tail to flex or is it easily flexed like the 912 fa nib?

    • @PensandTea
      @PensandTea  2 роки тому +2

      It requires more pressure than the 912, definitely BUT you can push it farther than the 912 so they’re very different

    Ok, so I feel cheated... none of my Noodler's pens smell bad, also my triple tail, ahab, and nib creeper have all wrote perfectly out of the box... so I have to ask, what's wrong with me? All that aside I love my triple tail, it's one of the most consistent flex pens I have used (my FPR Jaipur v.2 with the EF Ultra-Flex nib just about beats it though.. if you haven't tried one I would highly recommend it). The only fault I can find with it is that it tends to dry out over a couple of days, otherwise it does exactly as advertised, a medium line in normal writing coupled with a really flexible nib for fun / show.
