The biggest concern I've had for a while is how to sound like me instead of a copy of my influences. I think this video helped me a lot with how I think about that. Thanks, Elliott :)
Welcome back, I already feel calmed and reassured about my guitar playing. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I care about guitar as the compositional tool that I happen to be most familiar with. I dont care about being *good at guitar* I care about being *good at chords and melodies*, and there are a lot of times where those two things dont align perfectly when doing another other than guitar. Nice food for thought and great playing at the end!
thanks for this man, i've found myself getting mired in thinking about what i "should be doing" as a guitarist because of the musicians i respect around me. i appreciate you affirming that it's ok to identify what you want to do and focus on that while identifying extraneous endeavors. great stuff man.
I like this idea... looks like I'm gonna have to put in some work recording myself and thinking about stuff I'm not so into playing. Also, beautiful playing at the end!
Thank your for the video, Elliott! It reminds me of a quote attributed to Thelonious Monk: “A genius is the one most like himself.”
Nice quote, thanks for watching!

Quite the introspection! If only we could start out playing with such perspective and knowledge
