      @@michaelangelobyrd werent the best throws ill admit, but when you throw on the same school at the same time with two nets and 1 net catches 100 pounds of bait and the other catches 0 baits its more than just user error

    I have only seen something like that once,in the Chesapeake Bay when Striped Bass were pushing up Menhaden to the surface like that and surrounding the school of bait. It is an awesome site to see.

      Yea I have never seen them act like that unless they are being pounded by blues or stripers.

      Watched the stripers and hybrid strilpes do the same thing to school of shads up here in North Alabama on Smith Lake and on the lakes on the Tennessee River (Guntersville,Wheeler & Wilson .)

    I've been in the middle of a massive bluefish blitz. That's about the craziest natural experience I've had on the ocean.

    Used to have bunker that big in the Chesapeake Bay growing up, all the commercial boats have wiped out the schools to make vitamin supplements

      @@joevtfishing Yup Virginia is the northernmost southern state to allow commercial menhaden fishing. The commercial boat lobbyists are strong in the state. I like OBX better, catch em up for me.

      Maybe if your state would get on board with some of the newer regs put in place for both commercial and recreational like here in N.E things would be better. On the other hand as sad as it is is to say I think another moratorium is needed, I think the new limits and laws have come a few years too late.

      @@bl4643 it’s the same everywhere but ME, MA, RI etc.. were able to limit the number of new commercial licenses given out, quotas/limits, days and times when you can harvest fish etc... And the same with us rec guys. Change can be made.

    I do this myself in New Jersey I like it just as much is catching the fish actually there’s so much excitement tennis it’s unbelievable I don’t keep the big ones I only keep the smaller ones because I fluke fish but a nice show anyway I loved it

    Your maniacal fish laugh is great. When I see crazy shiz like those bait fish welling up, I always wonder, what kind of stuff did Columbus, or the Pilgrims see when they were pulling up? I read somewhere in early times there were schools of fish that impeded boats. CRAZY

    I have seen something similar with striped bass chasing menhaden in the Chesapeake bay years ago. I Have not seen the big schools of menhaden in the bay for 20 years.

    When the pogys get like that and we can’t get them in a cast net we take big Sabiki rigs and when we mark a school we drop the Sabiki rigs in them and snag them

      Yup… heading to the ramp now for our last kill day of the season. We might try next week when it’s slick calm just for catch and release but the NE has kept catching them so well still

      theyre the same fish, theyre called different things depending on where youre from. we call them pogies here in florida, shad in OBX, bunker and menhaden the further you go north
