  • Commercial deep sea fishing out of Jacksonville, Florida (Mayport). Watch us get a boat limit of cobia featuring an awesome bite of mangrove and mutton snapper while we fight through hundreds of aggressive cudas. Jonathan pulls a big fish out of the bottom and a mahi-mahi destroys our boat after we land it. Then we face a dangerous storm on a 50 mile ride in. ENJOY!

    *I found these ball bearing swivel snaps to **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s be just as effective in every aspect as the much more expensive brand name snaps.*

    Keep up the great videos man! You've got some of the best fishing content on UA-cam IMO. What pound main line and leader do y'all use on your Torsa?

    • @joevtfishing
      @joevtfishing  6 років тому

      David S thank you, I really appreciate that!! We use 80 pound momoi on the 30s and 100 on the 40s. The leader varies greatly for what we are targeting. 40-50 for snapper and 80 to 125 for grouper.

      all the people that were fishing that day either are working towards a degree or have a good steady job. Jonathan has very expensive permits and his job allows him to fish much more than the average working person. There are a lot of people that are really good that make good money but they work their asses of year round doing 3-9 day trips. You can make good money but its a lot of work! its a good way for us to do what we love and get a little extra walking around money!

    • @bingbingfishing4628

      Joe VT Fishing well I stay in Jacksonville n I love fishing. .. I got to get on board with this when I get my boat. I'm working towards my hvac certification. . Imma get my commercial license, don't care about the hard work , I'm a navy man, hardworking is my specialty. .especially if I'm fishing , all day everyday

    • @joevtfishing
      @joevtfishing  7 років тому +1

      That's really awesome! However, the permits are pricey. To get your basic RS (restricted species) endorsement you need to prove that 25% of your income is from fishing or you need to purchase an SPL and prove that you have made $5,000 within a calendar year of your application, you can do this by working on another commercial fishing boat or by catching unrestricted species on their own such as pogies, whiting, and yellow mouth trout. After that you have to apply for your species permits. The boats I work on have snapper, grouper, kingfish, and several others. There aren't many species that NOAA considers "Reef fish" that do not require another endorsement. Unfortunately, I know the boats I commercial fish on spend $7,000-$9,000 annually on permits. So unless you can spend a lot of time commercial fishing, it is really hard to make it worth it. If you have any more questions please let me know! You could always just go with my route and make good friends with people who have permits so you don't have the risk of paying for them without a return!!

    What a day! What kind of jigs were you throwing at the Cobia? How many ounces?

    • @joevtfishing
      @joevtfishing  7 років тому +1

      we used a ton of variety on that trips. Mainly because we lost maybe a dozen to cudas. We prefer wahoo jigs, 6-8 ounce for deeper, 2-4 ounce for sight fishing on the surface. Also, we use white grub tails but the smaller ones don't necessarily need grubs
