Been saltwater fishing my entire life . Offshore and inshore. Have caught marlin in stand up gear and a chair, tuna in stand up and just a belly plate caught all kinds of other big fish but I gotta say never from a rod holder.. Have even fought several swods deep dropped from a chair .. caught sharks over 800lds in a harness.... Ever since those bluefin tuna shows came on TV it has become OK to catch a fish from a rod holder. I mean if you have a disability or are older and cant fight the fish and all you can do is real one in its one thing ....but grown men catching fish from a rod holder? Ya I said catching not fighting....kinda looses the luster of being a " sport fisherman" Joe you make awesome videos Sir and love all the hardwork you do... keep them coming Sir.
I catch my bluefin tuna out of a rod holder, I’d like to see you try something like that when your rent is on the line and you’re not on a charter
@@joevtfishing when your are commercial fishing I guess that's different but I have caught one blue fin on stand up and two more In the torture chair. One was a dime easy. All three were tagged and let go though . Commercial and sport totally different iam sure you know as you do both as I have as well.But I have never commercial fished bluefin
Fishing for a living and boasting about your sport fishing adventures where the captain and crew put a hooked pole in your hands are 2 completely different worlds. It amazes me that anyone that has actually caught these fish would even say something like this.

You want to catch big yellowfin tuna you should go on a 10 or longer long range trips in November and December in san deigo. You can fight 100lb to 200 plus yellowfin tuna.
Nice video as always! Would really love some tips on some of that slow trolling bunker for those giants. There have been some big boys around my inlet in NJ feeding of some massive schools of bunker.

I'll be honest. When we catch horn bellies on the sabiki's further east in the panhandle, I toss them back. Nothing seems to eat them over this way.

You should use heavier rods. Those rods keep bottoming out and it seems like it doubled the length of the fight.
