I appreciate the info and the time you put into this. I've never made an explainer video before, however, I like how you touched on, you get what you pay for. I am constantly battling with people who say they can get someone to shoot their videos for a fraction of what I charge and I tell them the same thing. Sometimes, I get lucky and after they book with someone cheaper, they'll come back and book me at my full rate. If people understood this little bit, I know of a few personally who would have saved money if they just would have went with what I originally quoted instead of dishing out the extra dough to someone who is point and shooting.

I feel you brother! In my experience, clients like this approach video without any clue of what it means to make one and the work involved in the process, so in a way, it's somewhat understandable.
I noticed that explaining works well, combined with the willingness to walk away and not lower the price (maybe just a tiny bit, that's fine).
But more often than not, this sort of clients are a headache to work with. I've noticed this time and time again, the more a client pays, the easier it is to work with him/her :)

How about Fiverr freelancers that charge as low as frigging $100 with stunning samples to show for it, and massive sales?
Would love to hear your take on this.

As the old saying goes, if it's too good to be true... it's probably not
Multiple factors come to mind:
- samples are not theirs
- sample quality is not the quality you will also get
- people leaving reviews on Fiverr don't really know what makes a great explainer video
- if they ACTUALLY knew what they were doing, they would charge $2-5k for an explainer video, not $100
If you're happy to play around with your business results, you can go on Fiverr and see for yourself. But there's a reason why big companies go with established explainer studios, because the results are guaranteed.
