      @AdamLuke  3 роки тому +6

      Thanks man, appreciate that. new
      GOOD question...striking a good work/life balance is difficult and something that will evolve over time. In my first year on a graduate scheme, I basically lived to work! However I slowly realised that business is forever evolving and can never be "completed" so I've learnt to balance the two much better over time (working SMART not just hard!). Once you start work, after some time you'll find a routine that works for you.

      That's frustrating, I know the feeling!
      For me, I was too focussed on showing my 'leadership' by working the room that I didn't get into the details of the task and failed as a result. Ensure you read the task and all the information in the case study thoroughly and give a good recommendation with supporting calculations (e.g. expenses/turnover/profit etc).

      Hey Ben, thanks for the comment. Are you struggling with the numerical & verbal reasoning tests? If so, it's all about practise, practise PRACTISE! I failed my first one however after taking a few practise tests online and using a couple of books with practise examples I was able to pass them. Your careers office may have some books to use however the resources I used were online or bought from Amazon.

      @Benjammiin95 3 роки тому +1

      @@AdamLuke Hi Adam, thanks for the reply! I wouldn't say I am struggling per say, I am very average. But I know to get on these schemes you have to be in the top 5% etc. Do you think they favour more crystallised intelligence than learning on the go as I am a learn over time sort of person which is why I feel I can't get past the tests to sum up! Thanks for the advice though!

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  3 роки тому +3

      @@Benjammiin95 Hi Ben, the ability to learn on the go is EXACTLY what they're looking for. Recruiters want a graduate who's eager and willing to learn that they can mould into a future leader. Majority of your training will be on-the-job training, meaning you learn by doing! You need a degree and to pass the numerical & verbal reasoning tests however besides that, it's more about you as an individual. Hope that helps!

  • @JustMyOpinion-

    I hear and understand clearly what you mean by reading from a script my interview recently wasn't successful and I believe it was due to this, I was over-prepared and wrote down everything I would say word for word but my question is... pre-recorded interviews? face to face isn't a problem but to pre-record a video interview and then send it is a little hard to not read from a script?

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  2 роки тому +3

      It's all about coming across as authentic, so providing you can read the script in a natural way then it'll be fine to simply read an answer.
      Ideally you can recite your answers from memory, that way you don't have to refer to your script and you can focus on saying it more naturally.
      If it's pre-recorded and you have a couple of attempts, I'd opt for a few bullet points and try improvise the rest.
      Best of luck if you have an interview!

      I failed a few applications before getting invited to the assessment centres, and every time I failed I made sure I got feedback and learned from that experience...it's about practise!

    The irritating part from when I applied for internships was that when failing, not one of the companies provided me with feedback, always this "high volume of applications" excuse.

      Hi Martha, is it the aptitude tests that you're currently preparing for (numerical/verbal reasoning tests)? If so, you have to practise, practise and practise! There's a website called (Graduates First & Assessment Day) with a host of practice tests you can take (both free & paid). Your universities careers office should have some material too! Is there something you are specifically struggling with?

      Hi Zee, I applied to A LOT of grad schemes. I always kept my sights set on my top choice which I was fortunate to get however I hedged my bets by applying to a few different schemes. I applied to at least 10 however I would say it could have been closer to 15/20.
      My advice would be, apply to as many grad schemes as possible (that you're interested in) without having to sacrifice quality on your application.

    Hi Adam!
    I just stumbled across your video while searching for tips for graduate programs. I wanted to ask you something. I'm applying for graduate programs this year but I completed my undergraduate degree in 2017. I then went to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Chinese language and then I went to China for an year to study in a full time Non-Degree program. I just finished that course in July and now I'm looking for jobs. I have less than 3 months of full time work ex but tons of internships since I was in different universities for 6 years straight.
    Do you think I'll be eligible for graduate programs in UK considering my undergrad degree was 3 years ago. And if yes, would it be a good idea to explain my educational background in my cover letter?

    • @AdamLuke
      @AdamLuke  3 роки тому +3

      Hi, thanks for the question - your educational background is exactly what recruiters want to see on a CV! Speaking from experience, I had been graduated 2 years before starting my programme (I actually believe the extra couple of years experience helped secure my scheme). So yes, I believe you'll definitely be eligible and if you believe it's relevant then mention your further education in your cover letter. I would focus on your experience on internships as companies will love you already have experience in the corporate world.
