    Man I just got my ‘20 SE Corolla 6MT and this is what I’m looking at for a potential upgrade. Love to hear you’ve been having a great time.
    I was caught off guard when you said 300 to a tank, because to be honest I get 100 miles more but at times I barely get in the mid-300’s.
    This would most likely be the daily and I pair it up with a V8, then have a truck/SUV for towing. Definitely want to experience AWD someday. Thanks for sharing this video and your thoughts!

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Yea, I can creep the 300’s when I am very mindful of how I drive lol. This is still a 3-cyl engine and if you keep out of boost it will really do great for commuting MPG’s.
      Yea, ideally I was going to keep my Supra and have this be my fun AWD daily. Thinking to add something next to the GRC someday soon that’s gets way less MPG’s lol.
      This would be an awesome AWD car for you to get into. If the STI’s were still around, I’d put the two together for options, but as it stands this GRC is brilliant.

    GR Core here. I honestly think these cars are amazing. Even the Core model was a big step over my 2020 Corolla Hatchback. I don’t have all of the extra aesthetics, but for what I have it’s great. It definitely comes down to the driving experience, and I haven’t even done any mods yet. 😊

      Agreed! This car really takes me back to when I had a 2013 STI. I loved that car, and it felt raw and just overall fun, with minimal frills here and there in the cabin. So glad to hear more and more owners loving these cars and actually keeping them!

    Thanks for the great reviews. I’m binging your videos while waiting for my GRC allocation to come in. I currently have a GR86, but want something closer to my old 2011 WRX hatchback. This car seems perfect!
    How’s the road noise at highway speeds? The 86 is so loud.

      Honestly when I had my Supra, which was one of my favorite cars i've owned, I kept missing my 2013 and 2017 STI. Those were so much fun and a bit more raw than the Supra. Not to mention I really enjoy the AWD/turbo/hatch/rally combo in cars. So the GRC definitely ticked every box I was looking for.
      Road noise is there on the highway. It will also vary depending on the tire you choose to ride on. Between 60-80mph its really not bad though. Wind noise can be a little noticeable, but either I am just used to it from my previous cars or it's not that bad, it's not bad. I can definitely hold a conversation while keeping my voice levels low. I'd say it's definitely better than the 2011-2014 WRX/STI's for sure.

      Agreed, I still have my oem tires, but when my new summer wheels arrive in a couple months, I have already planned on going with PS4S tires. I ran those on my Supra and they are just excellent summer tires that can handle some cold weather and rain.

      Definitely working on it! I was going to order the GRY lowering kit, but I heard it really doesn't "plug and play" easy on the GRC's. I'm trying to reach out to a few companies who work on the GRC to see if they are interested in getting some legit quality lowering brackets. I want to keep the OEM airbag and heated seat function, otherwise I'd order a set of nice recaro seats.

    Good video. I had a 2021 Corolla XSE 6 speed. I loved it. Great chassis, almost as good as German chassis’s, almost. Just not enough power. Anyway, the GR Corolla had not come out yet. I’m in a 2023 Golf GTI 6 speed 40th anniversary for now. It is a great ride. The Corolla GR is on my short list. I’d most likely go with it over the Golf R or Civic Type R. It is a Toyota after all.

    • @NEMotoGuy
      @NEMotoGuy  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for the support! Honestly the GRC feels much more planted down over the XSE, as expected. The only thing to point out for you coming from a new VW GTI to a GRC, even a CE would be the interior "premium" look/feel. Not sure if that will be an issue for you, but especially compared to the MK8 GTI or Golf R the GRC CE can't compare. I personally love the CE interior trim. Just the right amount of sportiness and creature comforts for a car like this. And to your last point knock on wood, almost a year and no issues with the car, aside from a rattle here and there.

    • @NEMotoGuy
      @NEMotoGuy  3 місяці тому +1

      If it's possible to find one at a dealership to test drive, I highly recommend it. However, even if this would be your first MT vehicle to learn on, it is honestly very easy. Clutch and gearing is pretty easy to get used to and daily drive in traffic, etc. Not to mention it is very fun and rewarding when driving properly. The iMT is also very useful if you are not used to rev match downshifts.

  • @douglaskrueger357

    I think the interior is a non issue. The car reminds me of the way VW made cars back in the 80’s … super basic and all focus on the drive. People getting hung up on interior just have it wrong. It’s a fast hatchback and not trying to be anything else. I own a FL5 and would buy the GR in addition too 100%.

      Congrats on the car!! The stock system when the valve opens up while driving at higher rpm/throttle input it is a tad bit louder, but nothing insanely noticeable imo. How’s clutch pressure and angle is it stiff or soft and does pedal angle allow heel to stay on floor or is it more upward to where you have to fully lift foot from pedal to pedal when shifting is shifter light or does it wiggle sorry for all the questions

    • @NEMotoGuy
      @NEMotoGuy  28 днів тому

      Clutch pressure is pretty good tbh. It's not too stiff, and definitely not soft like the Type R or Type S. You can rest your heel on the floor, that is definitely not an issue. Shifter is nice and crisp. It is medium in heft feeling. No wiggle at all, it is a sharp, precise shifter and the throws are not too long and are smooth.

    Been thinking about getting one since Subaru won't a new STI.
    Tho the VBs are making big power easier.
    Probably gonna wait for the refresh after seeing the GRY improvements.
    Might even go with the new Auto, as blasphemous as that sounds.

    • @NEMotoGuy
      @NEMotoGuy  4 місяці тому

      Yea, I was in the same boat. Long time WRX/STI guy here, had put a deposit on the new gen STI with my repeat dealer. They didn't even know it was getting canceled until a random last minute mass email was sent to dealers...sad.
      Yea the new VB's are great. If the TR version was available from day one, I would have put the two cars together for options. I still think the GRC is more of an EVO/STI class competitor than the 22+ WRX.
      Yea, i'd say probably the 25/26 year will have a bigger refresh if anything, but I doubt it will be too massive. And in my 30's anyone who says its MT or nothing can get over themselves lol. I was all about the MT for awhile. After getting my S4 and then the GR Supra...a really good auto is amazing, and doesn't make me miss MT much tbh.
      I legit told my wife, if the new GRY with the refresh and auto came to the US, I would legit buy one and daily that and keep the GRC for a fun MT toy.

      @@NEMotoGuy Yea I ended with the 22 BRZ with the manual. It's a lot of fun, but a little small for our needs. Specially since I'm the only driver. Also not quite as great for highway trips.
      The TR is definitely on my radar. I wish Subaru would of given it the STI trans and DCCD setup.
      Or at the very least mechanical front and rear LSDs. I'll have to test one to see if they did the trick with the suspension and steering.
      Yea I'm thinking it's probably mostly going be small things besides the interior and front bumper. Looks the GR bolt kns might come stock.Yea Manuals are great on open back roads, but once you hit traffic or the interstate meh.

      Hey welcome to the GRC family! Yes, it is completely normal during break in with manual transmission cars. How hard are you shifting into second from first gear? When I first start the car and go from first to second I hear a slight thunk, very minimal, and after that it never happens. I believe that is normal upon first start/drive.

      If you can, I highly recommend sitting in a GR and potentially test driving if possible. It is VERY different from the Camry as far as ride quality and comfort. It also depends on which trim GRC you are planning on getting. If you grab a CE or even Premium it may be an easier transition. As far as the manual transmission is concerned, the GRC is pretty easy to learn and drive. The clutch is easy and the gearbox is excellent. It also comes with iMT that does auto blipping to help you rev match downshift much easier. It is helpful when learning how to drive too.

Im sorry but the grc is a great car if they put 4banger in there. Again who wants a 3cylinder and a turbo pushing 30psi from factory?🤣🤣🤣

    I have a 2024 Premium and while I love it, there are a few things I really wish Toyota included over the Core.
    I think the Premium should have the full interior of the Circuit (but with the white stitching it already has). Putting in the better seats is great, but the door cards from the Core are just so cheap. The better door cards + illuminated door switches + little trim piece in front of the shifter would have been perfect the Premium.
    I think the Circuit coming with the hood, spoiler, CF roof, and nicer forged wheels is enough of a difference that they could have thrown Premium owners the small bone of the complete "nice" interior.
    I know I can order the white-trim pieces from an XSE hatchback myself to upgrade, but the door cards are like $600 a piece, and the small trim piece is $75, and the illuminated switches are like $275 which is crazy.

    Grc is a nice car, but the price point is kind of steep for what you get... Almost bought a black one for under msrp 2k off but decided not to buy 2024 and waiting to see the automatic version instead. Pretty hype to see the yaris get the new DAT, so figure why not on the grc

      Yea, it's really tough with these priced at mid 40K for a circuit edition. While the performance is great, and the "creature comforts" at least in the CE are decent. It's still a hard pill to swallow. If I didn't get mine at MSRP at the least, snagged it for $1K under a year ago, then it was a no go for me. I just don't think they are worth anything over sticker.
      I was following the GRY refresh and that auto does sound great. I would love an auto for a daily tbh. While the MT is great and easy to drive, I can still appreciate a quality auto for driving comfort.

This car is about taking an eco hatch and turning the internals into an AWD monster. That’s all it is. Maybe that ain’t for you. Cool go buy something else.

      It really depends on what you're looking for. The Type R isn't AWD, so for me that's not even competition in this segment. Not to mention I really don't think they are hatchbacks, but more liftbacks, but that's just my opinion lol. No hate on the Type R, I love those cars. I still stand by my statement that Honda six speeds are legit the best in the world too. Golf R is definitely more premium, and faster, etc. But I feel like the GRC is that raw rally car feel. Also, the pricing difference between the Golf R and GRC is huge now too, even excluding mark ups.

    No matter which way you spin it spending 40k on a Corolla is stupid. The quality of the interior is WAAAAY to cheap to justify that price tag. That car shouldn’t be more than 32k because at the end of the day it is still a Corolla.

    • @NEMotoGuy
      @NEMotoGuy  4 місяці тому +66

      Welcome to the car market of 2023/2024. Prices are what they are today. $40K for a CE is just right in todays market. You can call it a Corolla all you want, but its just a Corolla by name only. You are clearly paying for the massive amount of performance in the car. This goes for WRX/STIs of the day, and Evos, and even the Golf R. They are all imprezas, lancers, and golfs. But its the underlying heavy performance that is the cause for the higher pricing. If this was 15 years ago, then a $30-$33K price tag for these would make perfect sense.

    • @treaves2175
      @treaves2175 4 місяці тому +30

      The way I look at it is that Toyota took the regular Corolla, and dumped money into only the drivetrain (complete swap) and driver tools (seat, wheel, gauge cluster). If you think “it’s just a corolla” then you value interior much more than the target market of this car. That’s totally okay, nothing wrong with that at all. You could go with the Mazda 3 hatch, or if you care more about performance, the golf R!
      I’m just a Toyota fanboy who’s pined for the GRY to come here, and this is the closest I’ve got!
