The hardest is the beginning. What i like is to see is more videos for beginners. The first step. Buying a stock system from a site. Cutting up a stock system, prepping it and attaching it. Crest a few high quality video at home. To show people how it is done.

I was once charged 1700$ for 2 units and they were absolutely HORENDOUS! The hair salon wouldn't even let me have the second one by saying it's better to leave it with her for "safe keeping". Since I ripped out the system the moment I came home, I never even went to the salon to get the second one and there went my year's worth savings.
The system itself had such a harsh hairline, the knots weren't bleached, the quality of the hair was really bad and the density was all wrong, you could see the lace after applying the adhesive, she even told me I can use any shampoo and conditioner for maintainment, it was just a horrible, horrible experience. In reality, the fault was all mine. I didn't do proper research beforehand and I let someone use advantage of that. I mean, there's no excuse for their behavior either, but I guess that's just what they do. They prey on people's weaknesses and try to make a milking out of it.

Those club models put me off of hair systems for about 10 years, i remember reading £3000 a year and such and knowing i could never afford that. But they're totally bullshit, just do it yourself, companies like Lordhair are fighting back, i'm not trying to promote them exactly, but they have the right idea of selling the systems direct from manufacture to client with them doing it all or mostly themselves. Fuck those salons man, they probably give you the worst systems anyway

I've been wearing a system for six years. I get my systems from Hairpiece Warehouse. They last an average of ten months. I researched the whole system / bonding for a good year before buying. I had my first system cut in at a salon, but have been trimming the base and cutting-in myself after the first time. I use to get custom pieces, but my last three pieces have been stock with the same result. I appreciate the valuable information being shared on these types of channels. It has saved me a tremendous amount of money, time, and aggrivation. Kuddos!

Hair salons are the luxury option. The low cost option is doing it yourself. Buy a unit and self-install. Problem solved.

  • @RyanDeRama

So true Jake. Transparency is the way to go. We need to help clients to help themselves. I always thought the prices of system+ installing+maintanance were pretty costly in salons. Wich is ok for those who earn that kind of money. But I couldn't in the beginning, so for me and I would say most people who are interested in getting a system it's important to know how to do most of the maintanance themselves. I believe businesses can still make good money of off systems, glue, adhesives, tapes etc. For my part I have never been to a hairsystem salon to get an installment but rather bought one online, learnt from Curtis to cut the base and glue/tape it onto my head and then got my haircut from a barber in berlin (prices are ridiculously cheap there 12€) Anyway what I'm saying is it should be more open and talked about in society. Just like makeup or siliconboobs are "normal" this should be too. Peace out great content dude. 💪🏻

Just for information I have been wearing hair systems for more than 50 years so am very experienced. Since the pandemic supply lines have been interrupted and in my case grey was hard to find. However I recently purchased a custom 95% grey system from Newtimes Hair in China. The price was very reasonable and the product and customer service excellent. I had it cut in at a salon which adds to the cost but it's a lot cheaper in the long run than monthly subscriptions to a hair club. The more information we share the better for all of us in this community.

I have some ideas for an entrepreneur.
Create a database of salons, barbershops, and wig shops around the country that people can bring their prepurchased hair system to and have installed. Develop a rating system for these service providers. Make it discreet. Start classes that teach these skills and train barbers/hairstylists to be up to your standards and correctly install these systems. I feel like the number one reason why hair systems are not more commonly utilized beyond the obvious cost and cultural taboo is the lack of places that openly advertise these services. I'm sure they are out there but they are very hard to find. And the ones that do great marketing also have high costs.

Lordhair has great systems that are custom made and cut in if you choose for under 225 dollars. Stock cut in under $200 only issue is stock never matches my color. Yes you have to be a little handy to make the mold at home and know how to maintain these units but you and guys like Curtis teach all that. I learned years ago from just being smart. So fuck all those nonsense salons and clubs. The woman I went to years ago for systems didn't want to provide me a cut in when I got my system from the internet. I offered her $100 and explained it's better then losing me altogether. I mean is it so bad to cut in a unit for 100 when you have almost no overhead and you don't have your time booked for $550 Customers. Finally she agreed to $125. Now I tried lordhair cut in service for only $20 and the cut is better then hers. Under $225 shipped to my door full french lace or skin system which I never tried.

Good points Jake on a topic I've not seen Curtis or a few other prominent youtubers focus on. Salons are very expensive and impart very limited knowledge and thus do not empower the individual to try himself. I've been a system wearer for 4 years and just last month I decided to go it alone and try the sourcing, installation and maintainance of the unit myself . Here in the UK different companies charge over £500 and let me tell you their stylists are atrocious along with selling accessories at inflated prices eg the glue on Amazon is $20 they sell for $45 . Really puts me off and after watching Chris L lately I'm going to try it myself. Good content Jake .

Finally someone normal and interested to help. Topics skin care, cuts , interviews, how to care to keep the system long or keep the hair silky, etc
Real demonstrations how to wash, dry and style the hair, etc. that makes great videos and we learn from each other. That is my idea, I hope I am not offending anyone with these points. Peter

I want my own hair, I want science. Hair systems is just trading one problem for another. The only way I’d wear fake hair is if it’s surgical implanted but that has shown to have infections. Bummer. You asked what I want. I can tell you that I no longer wish to wear a hair system that is glued or taped for various reasons. This is the 21st century. Can someone perfect a silicone hair system for men that suctions itself to the scalp without the messy and itchy adhesives? Yes, today s systems look more natural but the attachment method still remains as it always has, i.e. glue, tape or if you have some hair, clips. If I wear a hair replacement again, It will have to be a unit that is minimal fuss and can be applied to the head and removed without any fuss. Guys, put your heads together. I know u can do this. Thank you. Walt

I went to 3 places with contracts and everyone of them failed me, so do not do them. It starts out good later they start giving the least amount of service they can for the same price, service starts to get worse and worse. I was not happy with first unit it was awful they would not listen I was always being lied too. The manager was a liar and she was arrested for embezzling, plus one of my systems was stolen and I was given a cheaper one. I have had to learned to order, cut in and even color my own systems, you will be better off if you do or find some who know what they are doing. Do not trust hairclubs. You will be better off if you learn how hairsystems work and do it yourself, or find someone who understands them. I have found that almost any hairsystem can work if they are cut in really good.

This is what I’m experiencing as a hairdresser who just started offering this service to my male clients. Granted, these are clients that have already established themselves as a regular client of mine. I told them the whole idea is that they can do this themselves at home, I even bought them the tape and the liquid adhesive to take home and they don’t trust they will do it right. I wish they would do it themselves, I even offered to guide them through it. Rather then try to learn , they said they rather pay me to do it. And I’m not cheap. I think heard one of you guys on another UA-cam broadcast tell your listeners to find someone who will charge you only $15 and come to your house. That’s crazy, it actually takes skill to cut a system right. Anyway, I guess when I get to the point someone found me specifically for fitting them for their new hair system, that might be the client that would prefer to maintain it themselves and I would be more than happy to tell them what I know

The only reason the industry would collapse is because people are learning to do it on their own. And hair club in Ft Lauderdale Ive heard they cut way too much of thé natural hair on the sides. I have never experienced a situation where they dont want to tell you what bond youre using but if you pay attention at the salon you can often find the name of thé company they got thé piece from when they take it out of thé box..i once told this guy Alfieri who owns a salon in Ft Laud that I know you can buy these pièces for 100-200 online and he said its what we do to the piece to make it look good is what youre paying for. Hé had a point And those contracts are bs.. I have broken them many times and returned back to the same salon after a few years and they gladly accept your business back...i looked back on past pictures and after 8 months of wearing my current piece that I cut in myself and have tweaked actually looks the same if not better than what trained stylists did especially now that its losing density

I think that's a good ideal, but the hair system industry is a bit over saturated, they are secretive because they want to earn a living, and for hair systems not to be a hobby, hair systems you can make yourself, and learning where to get glues and adhesives are fairly simple, some products would require you to have a medical license, so if you're not a doctor that works in the industry you probably would not be able to obtain that information, hair salons are not in the industry to teach clients there methods, that's pretty much what destroyed the hair extension industry.I would do my research but don't expect people to share information. The market for new businesses has shut down,if a business is unethical with how the products are obtained, than they won't be able to obtain hair systems for a while, most hair clubs knew this day would come and stocked up for years,I have been in warehouses that appeared as if they had hair systems for over a hundred years, and I'm not joking, also products made buy slaves are illegal in the United States, hair products such as hair systems were put on a list of products made by slaves in 2020 making them illegal, most of them anyway, if it appears to be mass produced, than it's probably unethical, the United States are now monitoring these and other products that might have been made from slaves,in the meantime Australia, and the United Kingdom are being monitored also,if you had not noticed there were many companies that popped up overnight in these countries, I learned to make hair systems, you have to have good eyesight but,and very steady hands but you can make your own pieces, even if takes you 3 months you can do it.I started a ethical hair replacement business two decades ago and you can too,the recent lace front wig industry destroyed hair replacement, offering handtied ventilatiation in economy wigs is what exposed slavery.I'm not upset about it,because I always chose to make my own.

Also, another issue I have with this approach is - No Privacy! Most people want privacy, you don't want anybody to see you visiting such a club, except the hair professional that treats you.

Whats up. First i want to say , thank you for your vids and your time spent trying to educate people on this subject. I'm gonna be real with you and i just might get some hate for this , but here goes. If i were you - i'd get a little more time in the game of hair systems first before jumping into a business model . Not sure how i feel about guys making a handful of videos on hair systems and then quickly jumping into some sort of business model to make money. Chris of hip toupee "kinda" did this by reping lord hair . Just came off weird to me - due to how fast it all happened . He seems like a very nice dude though. Curtis from mhe however really made it work - mainly from the sheer amount of videos and info he put out before taking the plunge into supplying. In the end - there is nothing wrong with people trying to make money for services rendered , but in the case of being new and online for everyone to see - it might be less suspect if you had more time in the game. Not sure if this makes sense . Sorry for the long post - just giving my 1 cents worth :) good luck to you and thx .

As with any industry there are changes some choose to financially rape clients .....but some of us actually changed the way we did business. Not all are created equal. But then again what do we old timers at 52 years of age.......what do we know. I used to teach clients how to be self sufficient for the most part. Would sell them products to do their hair on their own when they could not come in ........ we do not build community by tearing others down.......as I do not tear down all the other horrible hair clinicss around the world.........I ignored them.......was known to take care of the broken from other clinics......the lies....the deceit were horrible.....the ways they were financially screwed over......obscene. All I could do was take care of them......and build my brand........not tear them down.

    Hey Jake,
I want to take the step to get a hair system, but the most solid hair system place near me is closed for covid. What do you recommend - that I wait for the pandemic to blow over and for the place to re-open, or to order online and try to place it on myself? I have little/no experience in styling hair.
    Thanks.

Hey peter! I can’t tell you 100% what’s ideal for your situation, but I’m working on creating a DIY course for this type of situation. For now, you have a few options
      - wait until the salon opens. LEARN AS MICH AS YOU CAN FROM THEM AND ASK ENDLESS QUESTIONS.
      - order a system and learn how to self install. Curtis with my hair experience has a video ebook to help you through the process. You’ll still have to cut the hair (for most styles) that could be tough. (I’m also going to make a course on how to do this)
The third option is a hybrid. Do a self install, and take the unit to a regular hair cutter. There’s things they’ll need to know about the hair system, like not cutting with scissors.

I’ve had a different experience. Mostly positive. Been at hair club for almost a year and they don’t hide any info from me. They answer any questions I have on products they use and have friendly staff. I will say these salons are expensive but I couldn’t do this on my own.

Don’t forget the two greatest secrets of the industry: (1) the hair is often harvested in Uighur concentration camps, and (2) the knitting facilities are in North Korea because hair system competition is a “race to the bottom” for low cost. If I could guarantee it was European or Indian hair, and made by in decent conditions (even in China) I’d pay hundreds of dollars more per unit. It would be attainable if people replaced laser fronts and got more mileage out of each system.

    • @JakeKent
      @JakeKent  4 роки тому +1

depends on the manufacturer. this is why one should always buy from a reputable source. knitting is actually moving in house to china, and away from north korea. but i agre with you. i'd pay more. thats actually the company i specifically want to develop.

Fantastic video! So lately I've been thinking about this a lot, I think what the hair System industry needs is a company to be like a Uber/Nerflix/DollarShaveClub/ of hair systems. We need a service where you pay a monthly subscription, but a LOW one, say $79 or so per month and that will get you one new unit per month delivered like clock work like say a Dollar Shave Club. BUT I will go a step further and say there HAS to be a way to "pre bond" the unit, some kind of way where when you get the unit, you peel off material and the unit is already bonded right out of the box and ready to install.
Remember, most people are put off by the maintence. But imagine a world in which your unit is delivered monthly, you then throw away the old unit, get the new unit, and simply install it right then and there. The technology has to exist to make this possible. Imagine not having long, tedious maintence and clean up. This would go such a long way in wide spread adoption

Hello Jake you are so amazing a God-sent to all of us. You know a little bit about me? This is mark barthur said I wore the hair system in the early eighties to the year 2000 but. I was lucky the guy that ran. The company was kin an older gentleman that we just bonded and my mom got close and of course. I live in Fresno and he was in San Francisco the company so I had to learn how to maintain my system. Will my hair be spectaculand you know. I would sometimes run out of product. And he would tell me we'll remember. There's synthetic Kenwood say you can use wallight which work great and condition them without me. Sometimes. It'll be a little super sbut it worked but I had to get the unscented eventually. And I never bought a dummy head. But I did my sister bought one of these portable spots that you put this thing in the bad tub and this round machine hooks a hose up well. I used to tape it when it was wetake it to the machine and I would commit just like you do with the wide bristles in the plastic round. Chips style it. You know it would start kind of shape in it and then I would use this sort of. Hairspray but a very light one and shape it and then let it dry and comb it out. And it was great unfortunately. The 1st couple that I had had the straight across hairline. They were the polyurethane or whatever you call it the very thin fabric and unfortunately all. They had was master grip which was a surgical adhesive. And it really built up and was kind of rough and you had to clean it almost with like a paint dinner. But I learned myself how to maintain it. I had to Self taught there are so many stories I could tell you like. I said that 1 video you want to a friend of mine took me home from work one time on the motorcycle when I was on night crew and I had. To hold the thing down on my head. It was slapped a teaser buddy at don't know if they can use the word on this that sounds crude but I said. It would look like a flying vagina flew off and hit somebody's windshield couldn't go on roller coaevery time I went to the beach. You know I wore a hat on a course so we said the sun was bad for the mahatma gabara silicone Sprague as they said it would. Bleach when you wear them it is like changing. Your confidence is way up there people look at you different like what happened. It's really funny my very close friends Yvonne Kelly. You wanna have a big birthday party? And they were showing pictures of Yvonne and I when we were young with my hair and they would look and they go. Oh my God what happened you were so gorgeous? I said thanks a lot but J keep up the good work you are so amazing. You are blessing to all of us like I said someday. I'd like to tell you all the stories about going through this for all these years and then letting it go I've been thinking about going back you know I see him online. I don't know how good the ones are on already express or Amazon. They remind me very much of the 1st ones. I wore and then I've even looked at the HIM wigs for men. I thought that'd be fun to wear once in a while to see how it works. Thank you. Thank you. Only if you were around and like I said the technology when I was young. Just think how many young people you were helping and saving. I know it sounds weird but hair loss for some guys at a young age is actually improving some. I have suicide thoughts because it is devastating. I wish people realized and for women too how devastating it is. Thank you again I could go on and on you're truly amazand I'm Hey strip it down naked to show us how you shower and take care. Of that air peace man you got kahoni's thank you Jake you are appreciated as soon as I get things going. I'll put you on patron and send you what I can a month. We need to keep you going don't quit on this please please don't quit On us forever grateful mark barbado
