In men, hair often begins to recede from the forehead.
    Male-pattern baldness
Women tend to lose hair along the part.
    Female-pattern baldness
Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata) is sometimes preceded by itchy or painful scalp.
    Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)
Repeated stress on the hair can cause a type of hair loss called traction alopecia.
    Traction alopecia
t's becoming increasingly common for menopausal women to experience frontal fibrosing alopecia, in which the hairline moves back.
    Frontal fibrosing alopecia
Hair loss can appear in many different ways, depending on what's causing it. It can come on suddenly or gradually and affect just your scalp or your whole body.
Signs and symptoms of hair loss may include:
Gradual thinning on top of head. This is the most common type of hair loss, affecting people as they age. In men, hair often begins to recede at the hairline on the forehead. Women typically have a broadening of the part in their hair. An increasingly common hair loss pattern in older women is a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia).
Circular or patchy bald spots. Some people lose hair in circular or patchy bald spots on the scalp, beard or eyebrows. Your skin may become itchy or painful before the hair falls out.
Sudden loosening of hair. A physical or emotional shock can cause hair to loosen. Handfuls of hair may come out when combing or washing your hair or even after gentle tugging. This type of hair loss usually causes overall hair thinning but is temporary.
Full-body hair loss. Some conditions and medical treatments, such as chemotherapy for cancer, can result in the loss of hair all over your body. The hair usually grows back.
Patches of scaling that spread over the scalp. This is a sign of ringworm. It may be accompanied by broken hair, redness, swelling and, at times, oozing.
    When to see a doctor
See your doctor if you are distressed by persistent hair loss in you or your child and want to pursue treatment. For women who are experiencing a receding hairline (frontal fibrosing alopecia), talk with your doctor about early treatment to avoid significant permanent baldness.
Also talk to your doctor if you notice sudden or patchy hair loss or more than usual hair loss when combing or washing your or your child's hair. Sudden hair loss can signal an underlying medical condition that requires treatment.
People typically lose 50 to 100 hairs a day. This usually isn't noticeable because new hair is growing in at the same time. Hair loss occurs when new hair doesn't replace the hair that has fallen out.

I went from always having long hair to having no hair and had a lot of identity issues with it. Every so often i miss having hair so I'll do a lace system for a bit and get some variety back in my life. I usually end up shaving my head after a few months for ease. But the transition is a struggle because socially I'm "too young to be bald" 🙄 so it brings a lot of unwanted attention. I found the balance of defending my right to have opinions. There's a weird thing socially that it's "really fun" to tell men they gained weight or they're losing their hair. I hate it. But i break it by simply saying i don't want to discuss changes in my body at work or that this conversation wouldn't happen if i was a woman. It usually helps people to see the humanity in my journey. I've never seen someone discuss the psychological side of this so I'm very glad you're sharing your experience objectively.

Get a hair system when you start a new job or move to a new city. Or if you transition immediately tell friends and co-workers you have a sister, cousin, friend, etc who is a hair stylist who started doing hair systems and they asked you to help learn how to apply one. Then say you decided to keep it.

Jake you're such a star, you're an old soul far advanced for your years. Whenever I'm feeling doubtful about the hair system you always manage to lay things out sensibly and constructively. I had a hair system in 1998 and I only kept it 4 weeks 🙃 and now I'm realising I wasn't ready emotionally for the huge transition. It's also fair to say they were very uncomfortable in those days but still I felt incredibly conscious.
Thanks again Jake you have produced another great helpful video, love and respect to you fella 👍

Instead of wearing hats I used a lot of hair fibers for months. Then I choose a low density and tottaly changed the hairstyle (really short on the sides for the 1st time). Also some people knew for years that I was making hair treatments. I can say that 80% of people made no comments and the rest, just made a comment about the new hairstyle and how it made my hair look thicker. If anyone insisted talking about it, I was prepared to "lie" and say I had some extensions attached which made my hair look thicker.

I have a million questions about hair systems. I've watched many videos and the end result, in most cases, looks amazing!!!! What made you decide to try it ? What did friends and family think ? Can you do everything you did before especially swimming and more physical activities? Can you sweat profusely and have the system hold up to that ? So many more questions. You seem very content with it, how would you rate the experience on a one to ten scale? One being the worst and ten the best. Thanks for any input.

Thinking of transitioning to a hair system. My hair is blonde (strawberry blonde/ short-shaved). I have not seen any videos on men with natural blonde or red hair. So, not only dealing with the shock from others of more hair. I would face different reactions to hair color most likely. I am now slightly jealous of people with brown or black hair, lol.

Hair systems is too much work and expensive imo. Hair is never bout confidence..it’s more of an identity and personal preference issue. And then there is cost benefit issue as well. Maintenance is one of the biggest problems for hair systems - you need to constantly reinforcement that you wish you had hair.
