I've been playing Mario 3 for 30 years but have just recently discovered the booming Mario 3 community. Still learning new things to this day which is incredible.
Im surprised such a small level has so many intricacies behind it, and I am so glad that my all time favorite game is still being speedran at such a high level, with new strategies being found almost every year. Thank you Mitch, what an entertaining video!
This video is the sort of thing that makes MFP not only the best runner of SM3 in history, but an indispensable leader in the speedrunning positivity corner of the community. He doesn’t have to do this sort of information sharing and coaching, yet he does. I get a feeling of genuine care and investment in building and maintaining a positive and vibrant community from this. Amazing job Mitch, I’m proud to be a twitch and yt subscriber of yours.
Great video and breakdown! Seeing other people run levels and then seeing you I always wonder, "damn how does he do "x" so much faster?!". Fun to get analysis like this. I'd watch it for other levels for sure.
I love the Professional Mitch Voice used in this video almost as much as I love it when Mitch gets tilted and starts cussing up a storm after dying to a bullshit something or other during a janky section of a rom hack.
@@MitchflowerpowerDude, I spent much longer than is reasonable trying to figure out what the hell mfp was supposed to mean... It's early yet, need a bit more caffeine lol
you’ve been killing it with these youtube videos lately! i feel like you’re subscriber count is gonna jump like crazy in 2022 with videos like these. i’d pretty much watch a progression for any and all levels in the game you make - the amount of detail is super interesting. i also really appreciate how you took time to show “here’s what that same strat would look like in 2022” - that’s a really cool way of mixing the old with a new in a way that may never have been seen before. i love the vids man keep ‘em up!
So many times I've watched live Speedruns of Mario 3 over the years and I never knew about how much went into 7-2. Mitch and others make it seem so effortless. Some great Knowledge!
Same! I can recognize on a general basis when Mitch mentions on stream that a particular level is hard. But it’s completely different when you fully understand all of the little elements-all the problems you rarely actually see happen being carefully avoided; the specific bits of P-meter that must be obtained on specific platforms; the height of jumps; and man oh man just the raw precision of timing on the jumps and other movement. Like you say, it typically looks so effortless in runs that it’s easy to underestimate what really goes into it. Videos like this are great for gaining a better understanding of the intricacies involved. (And the history demonstrating the “why” and “how” background is fantastic too.)
Thanks for taking us on a trip through time. [British voice] "In the next episode of kings and generals, we discuss how the Mongols invaded... something something"
How you have managed to find all these awesome strats and stuff is just mind boggling. I just watched an old GDQ with Dode running Super Dram World and talking about how you found so many speed strats he was using without even ever running the game. That's just insane. You're a friggin Mario god, man. I'm glad I finally decided to check out Twitch. Watching you run shit live has honestly helped with my depression a good deal lately. So thank you for that.
Oh that explains why I couldn't get P speed in 2-2 when I was messing around with speedrunning levels last year. I'll have to give it another go now that I know.
Really cool vídeo :D 4:40 Also in The case You wanna do more of This kind of videos I think a really cool topic is like a summary of which influential discoveries where discovered and Which New runners engered to the community on 2018-2019
Wow. Much respect man. Hearing the recent developments was so cool and I was wondering about this exact stuff!! What was it like in the 80-90s I wonder…
Mitch already explained that p-wing strategy was very slow and if you use cloud here then wouldn’t that force you to not skip some autoscroller elsewhere? You do not seem to understand SMB3 at all
I would literally watch every single video if you did one of these for each level.
Same man
Specially 5-9 and 7-4
Yes, Mitchell please do more of these.
Same
Also he sort of did years ago
Explained the basic Strat at least
@@stepheng8061 cool. I'll check it out. Thank you.
Fall into the pit? That's a paddlin'.
Take damage? That's a paddlin'.
Miss the pipe? Oh you better believe that's a paddlin'.
people playing nes games can only make me happy. Speedrunners provide insane contribution to retrogaming. Thank you and congrats

Giving Salt a run for his money. This is a great start. Do more of these. I will be watching.
The editing is pretty slick on this one. Feels like a short documentary rather than a UA-cam video.

This type of informational videos are super useful for us "layman" to better understand what is really happening in a high level run. So... thanks!
Great breakdown. It helps me appreciate the wonders that speedrunners can do.
Neat analysis video! Thanks for uploading!

minor Gripe; I'd feel world 4 is the most iconic world in Mario 3; Giant world was so different than anything else

This is incredibly motivating! Thank you for the kind words, and the uplifting spirit!
Christ, that clip of hammer suit Mario flying through the castle looks insane. What run is that??
Most iconic! World 4 would like a word.
HAHA I wonder if this is the matt Johnson I went to school with...also everyone remembers world 7
Perfect explanation

Am i the only one that feel compelled to snap in rhythm while listening to the world 7 theme ?
nice video mitch
super intriguing
i love when speedrunners make these kind of videos, it's like an invitation to other people to get into speedrunning.
Summoning Flowers!
I wondered why you didn't shot that fire piranha in 7-2. Thanks for the explanation!
It was Very enjoyible to listen and watch😁

Damn Mongolians, always try and break city wall
@@Mitchflowerpower how come every time we build a city wall, the Mongolians come to break it down?

Neat!
Summoning Salt the goat
Very cool. My favorite game of all time. I remember playing this as a kid as some of my earliest memories.
Wow, I used to do this back in the day…didn’t know it was a thing. I didn’t speed run, just made parts easier by jumping over them altogether.
Let's goo!!
I have to admit, these are subtleties that the average viewer like me is not aware of. Makes me realize how much work you are putting into this.
você é o melhor
I've been stepping like that almost from day one I had no idea until today years old it was pro.
I love this classes, lessons. Thanks so much Mitch.
Glad you like them!
I had no idea how hard and complicated that level is.
Really enjoying this new content Mitch. Thanks!
Great informative video
How did I never know about that 1up!?!?
really!?
I love it, Mitch. More of this, please!
This video is fabulous! I love speedrun progression and route explanation videos and you are my favorite speedrunner so it's like 2 worlds collided!
Wow. Much respect man. Hearing the recent developments was so cool and I was wondering about this exact stuff!! What was it like in the 80-90s I wonder…
Very well done! Interesting to see how it’s evolved over the years.
Incredibly interesting video. I would love to see more like this. I've always wondered about how the hardest levels were optimized over the years
Definitely into these, feel free to keep em coming!
Thanks! I'm trying
Sick
Very cool! Really enjoyed this. Thanks for putting it together.
This type of content is amazing. love it so much
Your videos are quickly becoming more and more professional! 👍👍 Keep up the good work my dude, and keep em comin! 😎
I appreciate it!
Great rundown!
Dude, you've been pumping out some good content lately.
You should do something like this for each level. One per video
This goes un the next smb3 vídeo of summoning salt
It appears some of these things would happen to me by accident in a run like through 7-2 but I never thought it saved time lol......
I need you to write the listing for my house I’m trying to sell. You had me hooked within the first 25 seconds of the video
Really great video! Keep it up Mitch :)
You should make a video putting all the common clips together with their name or level ( such a 7-1 clip )
World 7 was so stressful playing as a kid lol
ik this is early but congrats on 30k subs!!!!!
"Hardest pipe in the game"
That's what she said
LOL, you really think you can go all day long?
That Wii controller 😄
If its so tricky, why not either use judgems cloud or a p wing and go over the whole level without going down?
because speedrunners aim to be fast. D’oh.
Mitch already explained that p-wing strategy was very slow and if you use cloud here then wouldn’t that force you to not skip some autoscroller elsewhere? You do not seem to understand SMB3 at all
So what's the time if you somehow had an extra P-wing and didn't need to build up P-speed at all?
Couldn't you simply get the P speed by starting off with a P wing?
That option was shown in the video
Why not just equipped the star with the p wing, Then take damage before the slow down
Tell us your secrets Mitch!!
Are there single-level records kept anywhere?
Do you ever do runs on the Switch app?
The real way to do 7-2 fast is with a cloud
Tfw your casual runs in 2005 used all this before speedrunning found them🤔
I thoroughly dislike this level.
Calling a strategy a "strat" lmao as if just _talking_ about it is a speedrun
First
you win
