Hey everyone! Thank you so much for all the love and comments on this video over the years! We just wanted to remind you of some other videos of ours! We shot this one in 2022, and it's the video we are the most proud of with eye candy, wardrobe, and location scouting. Please feel free to watch and 'like' that video as well. Thanks! ua-cam.com/video/mH21H_fimo0/v-deo.html
I am considering buying an rs4 b8,5 which is in very good condition. I am driving an Audi s3 8v for almost 5 years. Is It worth buying this Rs4 and selling the s3?
The B8.5 RS5 is just timeless. The design hasn't aged a day, the engine and gearbox combination makes effortless and very rapid progress achievable and the quattro system means you can drive it hard without worrying about it chewing you up and spitting you out. It's a perfect daily.
Indeed the V8 RS5 is criminally underrated, kinda like this channel. I've had mine for about a year now and I still can't get enough of it, there's no way I'll ever sell this car for as long as it runs. Audi has really outdone themselves with this build and design, this B8.5 is arguably their peak engine/exterior design era. And I'm sure these cars will go up in value with time as they become more rare, so for those thinking of getting one do it now, I promise you won't regret it.
Cred for making this video, wow. I've had B6 S4 4.2, D2 4.2, D3 4.2 and now I again have a D2, it's a 2001 6 speed manual S8, which will stay with me forever.
being the owner of an 8.5 rs5 this video brough a smile to my face! criminally underrated channel! thank you for this content and PLEASE keep doing your thing on yt :)
@@IIXenon I appreciate the info, hadn't seen the timing chain being an issue. Looking at cars with 40k miles and under so far. Other than the carbon cleaning, these beauties don't really have many issues. The S tronic service is no big deal to me. I've driven VW/Audi dual clutch cars since 2010.
You guys are so on point with your comments on the RS5. As an RS5 owner myself I’m as excited each time I drive mine as you were in your review. You never tire of driving this “Moment in time car”.
You own one of the most beautiful Audis IMO. I have always wanted a RS5 to modify. Can you share what the ownership experience is like and have you modified it? I have never left any of my cars stock and since APR is less than 50 miles away from me I know I would never be able to leave mine stock.
@@chesspiece81 I’ve now had mine since 2018. Ownership has been fantastic. I’ve stuck to proper servicing schedules which has resulted in no unexpected expensive repairs. What I’m intending doing is a front resinator delete on the two exhaust downpipes. I’ve a factory sports exhaust but still feel it’s a little on the quiet side. I’m also wanting to install retrofit apple car play. The character of the car is the sound of the engine and what an engine it is. This one revs to a dizzy 8.5k - it’s a coupe that makes you ‘drive’ the car.
@@speedshed Aren't headers available for them? I know APR developed a supercharger for the 4.2 but I wasn't sure if they made it for the RS5 or not. I'm not sure of the aftermarket support on the RS5 because I know if I really start researching them I will really really want one.
@@chesspiece81 I wouldn’t supercharge mine as it’s enough power to scare me. I’ve never owned a motor before that’s made me shake after a spirited drive. My advice would be, if it’s the last of the N/A V8’s you want - just get one because they stopped production of them in 2015 whilst they developed the B9 2.9 Turbo. The V8 Lamborghini engine is last of a kind and I bet you’d enjoy it as much as I do.
I have a 2013 RS5, and everything you say here is accurate. I got it because it checked a lot of boxes: ✅ Sporty yet elegant and timeless design ✅ Luxurious interior ✅ Pretty rare ✅ Fast as hell ✅ Reliable (with reg. maintenance) ✅ Practical for regular use ✅ Large trunk space ✅ Beautiful exhaust note ✅ Safe to drive in winter To most people it just looks like a common A5. But if you really know your Audis, you know this is a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
I just bought a 2013 B8 RS5 for my daily driver since my weekend car is already a 991.2 GT3. Your comments were spot on! Very informative & entertaining. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for making this amazing film recording the legacy of Audi’s NA V8 engines. As an owner of a B8.5 RS5 coupe which just hit 10 years old now, this film really helps us to keep holding these beautiful old engines longer with graceful hearts.
Just now seeing this. Very timely. I’m on my third Audi and I have recently decided to not sell my old Audis anymore. I fear the spirit of the new Audis will fade as time moves forward so I’m going to hold on to these legacy machines as long as possible. Great production guys.
That's exactly how I feel about my 4.2 allroad, only just over 2000 were made in the 05 model year. Chains and guides are done plus a bunch of other stuff. Shortly it'll transition from daily driver to full restoration and Sunday show car status. 6 speed swap (planned) and a full color change, I'm thinking of an audi race livery. Who knows ,it'll probably take me 15 years to complete as projects of love are never truly finished. Take care, save them old audis. I do want to get an old audi 90 or audi 4000 with the 5 cyl turbo, that motor was fun.
lol true, I saw the video first and expected some big channel of maybe some big magazine or TV show with like at least 1mio subs and was like wtf when I saw the sub count so I subbed lol
Bro- i said the same thing b4 i saw your comment. I just subscribed just based on this 1 video I came across ( and unsubscrided to at least 10 wannabe " auto enthusiasts" channels"). The quality of content and in depth knowledge of the product is superior. Kudos to the entire team at EofS👍
Y'all are the best! We truly appreciate and cherish all of you that have watched and subscribed to our little channel. We are currently in the middle of producing our next piece, so we hope you stick around to see what else we have coming. Thanks a million. -Gavin
Having been a B8 S5 V8 (Manual) owner now for the past 3 yrs, no question - one of the best sports / GT car's I've ever own (14 total). Things will certainly get interesting next month when I include F/I into the mix. Great content gents; subbed! 🍻
This video helped me make the decision my heart was set on. Picked up a beautiful B8.5 2015 RS5 and feel like I've accomplished a childhood dream. First time Audi driver and owner. Quality video, content, and effort guys, thank you very much!
Epic! Thank you so much! We're elated to hear that we played even a small role in your buying decision. Congratulations on the new whip, and we wish you many happy and trouble free miles ahead. Thank you so much for watching!
Collected my 2007 Imola Yellow B7 RS4 two weeks ago. Will never leave my collection, it’s been my dream car for 14 years. 100% agree it’s a moment in time vehicle.
Your video helped me make up my mind. I bought the 2015 Daytona Grey Pearl RS5 a few months ago and let me tell you, it was worth every penny! I already put a resonator delete and it came with spacers. One owner, tech package, sport exhaust, 20 inch 5 arm rotors and red calipers, tint from factory. I will never sell this car! It is by far my favorite car I have owned and I have had some nice sports cars/cars. But this is on a whole new level; as you well know. Thanks for the video! Keep it up!
Thanks for the nice comment. What was the suspension you mentioned? I am still learning about my B8. Was it Olen? What are the problems with the active suspension?@@ExhibitionofSpeed
Absolutely incredible long format video and was a joy to watch!!! It's so good to see other people feeling exactly the same way about the legendary 4.2L CFSA engine that is in the B8/B8.5 RS5. I own an extensively modified Audi A5 sportback (the five door variant of the A5 that isn't available in the USA), long story short it started life as a diesel and now houses an Audi RS5 V8 engine/gearbox conversion with a Whipple supercharger strapped to it too. I saved like crazy to get this engine swap done and went for this engine because it's just so magnificent, an absolute symphony of screaming combustion, the way you guys described everything great about the RS5 is exactly what I think and feel, you guys nailed it!!!!! It's such great content. I have always felt like it was a missing piece in automotive journalism/cinematography that no one has documented this engine in such vivid detail and you guys have done it!!!!!!! Thanks so much, you have a new subscriber!
This might be the kindest comment on one of our videos to date, but we can't thank you enough! That sounds like a rad build and we are glad you appreciate our hard work. Thank you so much! Cheers! -Gavin
I remember first meeting Justin when I was in High School. He took my buddy for a canyon ride in the S6 and I joined them. Sitting in the back seat, flying through the canyons; at night. It was insane. That was pre-deer incident but even after I bet the car drove remarkably. I never drove Justin's, but I did drive my buddies C5 S6 and it has this charm that you just can't find in another vehicle from that era. It isn't the fastest, it isn't the most luxurious, and it isn't the most beautiful. But he gives you a connection that I feel a lot of cars from the early 2000's don't have. Even when I drove a E39 M5, it didn't charm me in the way the C5 S6 does and can. I crave driving that vehicle. And I think it all goes to that engine. That "little" 4.2 liter V8.
That definitely brings me back to the days of owning that car haha. I miss it and should have at the very least taken the special OEM parts I had and swapped them back to the originals, but you live and you learn. - Justin
I wish companies would go back to the late 90’s / 2000 kinda styling where it’s rounded but still with sharp lines instead of just blobs that everything is below like $100k today.
True, but pedestrian crash test regulations and fuel economy regulations pretty much determine how cars are styled these days. It's why so many cars look the same now. Thanks for watching! -Gavin
B8 S5 4.2 6spd is definitely a glaring omission here, in line with other comments I've seen below. Otherwise well done! Informative, casual, quality conversation and reviews.
Thank you for the kind words! I just took your comment and used it in a post here on YT to gauge possible interest in making a B8 S5 video. We'll have to see how that goes! Cheers, Gavin
@@ExhibitionofSpeed hey guys just checking in to see if you guys are planning the s5 b8 video? Being the last of the manual v8s there seems to be a large following for these now, even over the RS5. Would be cool to get your take!
It's a strong possibility. We have a bunch of updates for our viewers catch up on, so there will be a video coming out soon that will discuss SOTC, and other things. Thanks for checking back!
I own the b8 RS5 in that same prism silver. I love the fact that it is willing to match my mood regardless of how Im feeling. Audi absolutely nailed it with this one. I love mine and will never sell it. As the exhaust goes I had the resonator delete with stainless replacement...perfect sound and I unplugged the valves so they are constantly open so it can breathe easier. My only complaint is the famous Audi understeer. The last naturally aspirated v8 will be a legend for sure.
Remarkable video Mr Ronin, I love that BATTLE WAGON. I just yesterday completed the refurbishment and assembly of good S8 heads onto a C5 A6 block and installed into my D2 A8L. 11 of the valves were bent so I installed some from a Touareg and of course lapped them and changed the valve stem seals. Sadly I have low compression on cylinders 1 and 6 so perhaps should have verified leakage with gasoline or diesel fuel poured into combustion chambers even though zero light shone through any while closed. I will perform leakdown test soon to determine source of leakage. It is just MARVELOUS to see my gorgeous hometown of SL,UT and those fantastic winding canyon roads! These zombie straight roads of endless oceans of Ohio corn are beyond dull, tiresome, tedious and boring. Oh man "You can't put a price on that!!!"with your beaming smile at 27:30. Hahaha. I miss home so much.
My apologies for just now discovering your channel. This is now 1 of my 2 favorite videos on my favorite Audi and was glad to see it was the star of this excellent detailed show. The 2015 RS5 4.2 Naturally aspirated engine will be the perfect addition to my 2013 VW CC 4motion VR6 3.6 naturally aspirated engine. I will help keep the 6 & 8 cylinder naturally aspirated engines alive, smiles per gallon is 1 way of enjoying life. Thanks for this, it’s made my day 👍🏾
We would just like to thank everyone for taking the time to watch this film on the Audi 4.2 V8. The outpour of positive (and also constructive) feedback has frankly blown our minds. As of this morning, we uploaded a video about the Porsche 911 and how it has changed over the last 20 years. We would greatly appreciate it if you headed over to check that film out as well. And if you haven't done so already, please consider subscribing to the channel so we can continue making this content that we enjoy creating so much. Thanks a million for your time, your feedback, and for coming along for the ride. This is still just the beginning for us. Cheers! -Gavin
I have a B8.5 RS5 and I love it. I still got the chills when you played that flyby. I have an x-pipe resonator delete but I still want some more loud. If you thought the x-pipe was loud you need to hear a non-resonated Capristo. FYI, the last year of the RS5 in the US was 2015, and the window sticker says S-tronic but I think most owners will say DSG.
This video should have a million views by now. Excellent. You guys are awesome. I've always had a soft spot for Audi and it was so entertaining to watch this 🤗
I just picked up a 14 RS5 with under 15k miles and it has an audi exclusive color, Arrow Grey Pearl Effect. Love the sound, looks and presence of this car. Great Video!
I have a B8.5 S5, not as beastly as an RS5 but I love it and agree it is probably one of the most beautiful cars Audi ever produced. Timeless design. Great vid!
This video was superbly done well. I'm a big time Audi fanboy and like all Audi fanboys, the B5 s4 is the pinnacle car, but that 4.2 V8 is just sublime. I myself drive and absolutely love the c5 chassis. Although a 2.7t 6spd manual, but i personally love that era of Audis, 2nd comes the older gens like the c4, b4, etc.. You guys just got a sub. Thanks for the nostalgia 💚
Awesome video , great informative content . I love the appreciation and exposure of the cars I’ve dedicated so much time into. Really this is top tier , how does this not have a half million followers already ?
Thank you Mike! We really do appreciate everyone's love and support for us on this video. Looking forward to creating more content for all of you wonderful people in the not-too-distant future. Cheers!
A most knowledgeable, well researched and comprehensive presentations. Also, facial expressions while behind the wheel speak volumes. I’m a huge Audi fan…
@@rivalspeedusa Sometimes it’s not all about power, it’s about the feeling the car gives you. My prior car was way.. way faster than my rs5. With the rs5, It’s the overall package.
Yep and you're not the only one! Someone mentioned it earlier in another comment. That was a car we actually forgot came in a manual as they're pretty rare and sweet!
Definitely agree. Had one too. One of my favorite cars I’ve owned but the previous owner dogged it and the transmission went at like 80k miles. Finding a replacement manual transmission was nothing short of an expedition. Took me 4-5 months of scouring the internet everyday till I found one because they're so rare. Something to keep in mind if you plan on buying one.
I love my B8 2011 Audi s5 4.2 premium plus I’ve had this beauty since November 2022 I luckily got it for a steal just $15,000 for 78k miles… I know have just over 131k and I daily drive this thing all over CA and it’s been the best experience any car has ever gave me! Yes the maintenance may be a pain but you obviously have to know what you’re getting into before you purchase a car, only things I’ve need was new upper and lower control arms at around 105k I upgraded to the 034 for stiffer handling around the corners and its quite impressing how much it changed the whole handling with the car! I do have a muffler delete with and AWE exhaust and AWE intake. I love this car and plan to take this baby well over 200k miles.
I was gonna say... no mention of ASF and barely mentioned the S8's fame in the movie "Ronin". When I mentioned to my friends I was getting a D2 S8 they were all like "oh, the 'Ronin' car!" And yes, the 5HP transmission is the worst part of the car. It seemed less bad in my RS6 but in the S8, especially over 180k miles in my car, it's pretty lame.
So the funny part about the aluminum space frame is that we actually discussed it off camera and said "Oh yea, we should probably mention it at some point." And then it kinda slipped our minds after that. A bit of an oversight for sure. Aluminum being in the title is not about the ASF, but more so the aluminum engine block that the 4.2 is made of. Thanks for watching! -Gavin
great content. I personally own a S5 B8 4.2, a R8 4.2 and the RS5 B8 4.2. I can attest to it, that the RS5 is phenomenal! the power, the growl, the gearshifts... the only problem i had with the RS5 is a sore face from the smiles I get.
b7 rs4 is the bomb bro love mine to death will be buried in it when I pass :-) best sedan ever :-) you can see mine if u wish it's brand new looking :-) love her ❤️ on my UA-cam page!
the sound of the b7 rs4 is mind boggling its so unreal !!! Love mine will keep forever ❤️ 💕 best car I've ever driven and I've rented everything rs4 fir life
This video was something I didn’t know I needed, very informative and always up for learning more about things like this. Great vid and should do more on others like the 4.0 V8
What a great documentary!! I could probably watch an hour just on each individual car and I’m glad some solid 4.2 content was finally made. I have a 246k mile C5 S6 and I absolutely love the thing! So much so that I recently got my second one with a 6-speed 01E swap! Would love to see more C5 content, cheers!
Hey man I just got myself my first S6 C5 it’s such a charmer. Love to see that some are having great stories with this car. I just hit 100k on the clock. Looking for some insight on maintenance and things to do, and look out for etc, on this chassis. Any tips?
Make sure to check your timing belt (yes it's still a belt with this car), keep an eye on how the transmission shifts and drives, and make sure the control arms are solid. The struts and springs are damn near bullet proof seeing how long they lasted on the car we tested. Congratulations on your acquisition and we wish that it gives you many years and many miles of happy Motoring. Thanks for watching!
@@ExhibitionofSpeed Thank you so much! Yes the car’s basically bulletproof so far, especially for its mileage. Mines an East coast car so rust on the struts and light leaking due to salt etc. so swapping to coil overs soon. Doing the belt and brakes soon but have been wondering recently what light mods do you think is a good upgrade outside of the manual swap for more power? About the arms can I just replace ball joint etc.? Or do I have to do the whole arm?
You're going to have to do the whole arm. As far as power is concerned, there's not a lot to do. An S8 cam and a tune will get you all of 30hp, and out the door a supercharger will cost around 15k and get you not even 100hp. Just make it sound nice, swap the trans for a manual, and enjoy.
As the owner of a garage queen 2008 B7 RS4, I can confirm it's legitimately a 'smiles for miles'. I love how people who know what it is geek out over it, and others think it's just a sedan.
While yes I agree, I'm also going to be the person you yell at you. GO DRIVE YOUR DAMN CAR! It's such a lovely machine that needs to be driven. Thank you for watching. -Gavin
agreed bro love it 😀 some people have no clue!!! This guy the other day stopped me said omfg I love your car it my dream car :-) was like smart man best sedan ever period :-) b7 rs4 is the shiiiiiiiiiiiit!!!! smiling the whole time while dodging pot holes :-) rs4 life bro
You guys did an amazing job, I own an Audi s4 2007 6 speed manual amazing car. Has lots of problems but honestly it feels good working on it and restoring everything 🤙🏽
Really enjoyed this video as an owner of an B8 RS5 the one that didn't make it to the US everything you said hits right on the point, the car brings a smile to my face everytime I drive it. Subscribed can't belive how few subscribers you have with such great content.
Amazing Video, both in-depth technically and huge focus on overall driver feel. I actually got into a 2014 RS5 a couple months ago vs. the much more expensive R8 for those reasons, no regrets at all, don't plan on ever selling my RS5.
The RS5 is just... soooo gooooood. I can never have too much of that car. That R8 was a driving experience that we won't soon forget, but the all out speed from the RS5 was just intoxicating. Thanks for watching! -Gavin
Was it only the resonators on the down pipes that were deleted? No modification of centre and back mufflers I take it? No other exhaust mod but the downpipe res delete?
Fantastic video, very engaging camera work and stories. You should try and make a comparison of the V8 sedans from the RS4’s generation like the E9X M3, the C63 and the ISF all together. I bet that would gather a lot of views.
That has honestly been a dream of mine to do for quite some time now. I recently drove an E90 M3 manual for a week and wrote an article on DriveTribe about it. Such a phenomenal car, that in my opinion has for the most part aged quite well. Thanks for not only watching, but the kind words as well! -Gavin
Love to see the 4.0T platform reviewed. The 2017 S6 is something that has the V8 sound/feel/pull but has the addition of being a twin turbo. Having a stock motor that can be flashed to run high 10s with stock turbos should be acknowledged. Great shoot, amazing video, great work.
Thanks Benjamin! We definitely need to get around to those cars for sure. I drove an RS6 Avant for a few days and wrote some words about it on DriveTribe back in 2021. Luckily, when that site went down I saved my work and have my articles up on the Exhibition of Speed website. We have some exciting plans for 2023 and I plan to get some 4.0T action in there for sure. Thank you for the kind words and thanks for watching! -Gavin
Your channel doesn't look like it has 1.4K subscribers, if you told me you had 500K i wouldn't even question. Congratulations, loved it. It was so entertaining, even though it was a really long video. +1 Sub
@@blueridgerennsport specialising in servicing 4.2 timing systems would make you a very wealthy mechanic! How many hours on average does it take to remove the transmission, drop the engine, replace a cheap plastic guide, and reassemble?
Great video guys! I have an RS5 myself. I almost didn’t buy one after reading the reviews on it, but after I drove one I was hooked. It’s a special engine and the car is not deserving of the bad reviews it often got when it was first released. I had driven the V8 M3 and my girlfriend has a 6.3 (6.2) C63 AMG. The Audi for me is the winner by far. This is coming from someone that has owned an R35 GTR. The Audi is not as fast as the GTR, but when you’re driving it that really doesn’t matter because the whole experience so much more sensory. The sound, the brutality of that engine, it’s quite special. You can check out some clips of it on my channel.
So glad you love your car! We are advocators of people buying the car they actually enjoy, because at the end of the day, that's what matters. Cheers! -Gavin
Glad you two like my car so much! I just bought a 2013 RS5 with 4,700 miles on it! Yes, you read that correctly! Icing on the cake? Hows about a 4 year 50K warranty from AUDI? Yeah got that too! So I got the chance to own a practically brand new and it is if you don't look at the 4,700 miles on the clock! The passenger seat and rear seats were never, ever sat in! I can tell this is a fact, trust me! It also came with a P3 Left Vent gauge. Which I think is really cool. Whom ever owned this prior had it installed. The car is in fact as brand new as anything else Brand "NEW" on the dealership floor! I could not believe my eyes! When I saw this I bought it without any hesitation! In fact I have fallin in love with this car. So much so I am going to pickle it! And buy a S5 with a DSG if they are available or a manual if not. I have seven cars, this is my Favorite, I also own a MINTY 2010 BMW M6 that I got back in 2013 with only 22,000 miles on it. It now has only 34,000 miles on it. I';m able to not drive it too much and able to keep this mileage very, very low. I also own an Audi A8L 2002 Black on Black. That car had 34,000 was a cpo and I paid like $32K at the time (2006 january thereof) I bought it I loved that car but it got into a legal case dispute that lasted 9 years! When I got the car back it was NOT in the pristine condition I last saw it, so back to court we go! GRRRR. I am keeping it if it's not destroyed mechanically. I left it with 98,000 and fresh just done timing belts at the time on 2012 when this whole legal nightmare began! Now it has 117,000. Anyways, that is how i came to love the Audi brand. Interesting channel. keep it up and grow. Look at that IDIOT Doug Demuro or whatever this duffus A** Clown name might really is! He is painful, you are getting much better, LOL Kidding! BTW, my brother has an RS6 with 60,000 LOW miles on it. We are starting a collection! LOOOL three so far! As I said mine it a time capsule, I am going to garage it this winter I cannot handle the idea of driving this in the snow! I just can't! I have two winter cars, the 2002 A8L once it is cleaned up and brought back to the same good perfect condition before the legal battle! Since that car is made out of Aluminum the whole thing! It will not rust and if washed weekly in the winter it never hurt it! That one has the 5 Valve (40 valve) V8 with 310 HP Quattro of course! Shipped it to Eastern Europe, where I lived for 8 years. Then shipped it back so I have lots of good memories with this car! Especially driving it on the Autobahn! Yeah really! Take care guys, keep it up!
I started this with absolutely no intention of watching the whole thing. Though I’m now writing this comment at 1:44:53 and wow, great job guys. As a b8.5 s4 driver with a neighbor/friend with the RS5, I think I’m gonna cash in the s4 and find an RS5. You really nailed it with this being the last generation of cars like this and I agree, one of the golden ages for German cars in general. Seeing an RS5 in 20 years is going to be a holy sh*t moment and this really summed up what a pivotal role the 4.2 played over the many generations. This really captured that recent + future nostalgia for the platform.
We are all for people enjoying the cars they drive. No matter what it is. Glad you like yours, but oh man that RS4 was truly magical. Thanks for watching! -Gavin
b6 s4 deff cool daily 😎 owned 2001 twin turbo stage 3 and a 2005 s4 loved them deff ! The mk1 TT saved Audi’s ass here in Europe. I adored Audi the brand prior to the late 90’s and early 2000’s owning 5cld 20v turbo cars and V6’s. The phase 2 brand new S8 I drove at an Audi test day absolutely blew me away. Something delightful about the aluminium body rigidity and lightness coupled with that wonderful V8 that felt like nothing I had experienced before in a big luxury saloon. Fast forward to today I drive an alu body A8 executive sport, that has that inherent bloodline magic that D2 S8 had.
Awesome channel and great video on the Alu 4.2V8 My RS5 was APRs test mule for the stage 3 TVS1740 (APR cancelled the project - more money in tuning turbos cars ect...) car was insane did 0-100kmph in 2.9sec mine also has Ohlins coilovers, upgraded clutch packs from SSP and TCU tune with 6,000RPM launch

I own a 2003 C5 A6 3.0 non turbo Avant with 246k on it. It's a road warrior. Just had usual timing belt/water pump servicing. My jewel is a mint 2005 D3 A8 4.2 with 162k on it. Incredible on long trips, tons of power, and beautiful on the inside and outside.
Great job! Keep doing what you guys are doing! I have an RS4 and love it. It's so underrated in the US because of how rare it is. Even car people call it an S4 when it's really an RS A4... Lol
@@thomasbummer4361 it's not all about the speed. Have you driven one? Search what experts think about the 4.2 V8 in these RS4s. It's almost always listed as one of the best v8s ever. I've owned Corvette Z06, Lotus Elise, Camaro SS, Evo 9, BMW M3, S2000, and driven many other sport cars. The RS4 is the most balanced car I've ever owned. It's fast enough, the awd is awesome, the sound is unbeatable, the 4 door is great, the v8 is great, and the 6 speed is great. The fact that it doesn't look like a boy racer car is great too. To each their own... And the reason it's underrated is because there was only about 2000 imported here. The community size will never be that of the cars you listed.

Working on my neglected 03 V6 a4 convertible that I picked up for $400.00.. lots to do but I am loving it . She's certainly not fast and I am not sure if the B6 AVK NA can be tweaked at all to get some more out of her... any suggestions are welcome.
Good luck! Not every car needs to be fast. There's plenty of cars that are exceptional at doing what they do and that's what makes them enjoyable. There reasons why something like the V6 Mustang or your A4 are so popular and that's because they're more about the drop top experience than anythijng! - Justin
@@ExhibitionofSpeed Well it is an exceptionally nice handling car that is for sure and driving with top down in my part of the world is amazing I would just like some more umff out of her thats all. I am going to replace the cats with high flow ones for a start and get her chipped If I can gain another 40 HP I am ok.. Maybe it is also because a buddy of mine has the RS version and that is a monster car.
Awesome content guys, you clearly have done your research thoroughly 👏 good to learn some more history of Audi Sport. RS4 B7 Avant is my choice and I consider myself very fortunate to own one. The 4.2 is a peach 👌

Great video, thanks for all that information, amazing, I drive a b7 Rs4 avant and for me its just everything a car should be, 5 door, big trunk, V8 6 speed manual, Reliable, Responsive, Quattro, Just my favorite car ever and such a beast ❤
Im in love of my RS5 , I can't stop to smile when I press the gas 😁 and soon I make my car stage 2 with all the stuff from JHM, you need watch the videos make the RS5 a new Beast!!!!
In all the times I drove the RS5, it never got old for me. Hearing that engine wind all the way out and pulling the paddle for the next gear has always incredibly satisfying. Let us know how you car is after you go Stage 2! -Gavin
I enjoyed this video! Especially the part on the RS5. I've had mine for over 3 years and the feeling you got getting in and driving the RS5, I get it and it never gets old. I don't daily drive it though which helps. Most maybe all owners of these cars love them. Yes about the elevation, I live in Colorado and for an NA it still feels FAST and hangs with decently (not heavily) modded S4s 3.0T and destroys them in canyon runs. Not that I always drive fast in mountain roads. My RS5 peers always do a lot better in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times is California. In the end, can't argue with physics, we NA cars are nerfed at elevation gain. *I went ahead and shared this with the Facebook RS5 community (1000+ rs5 owners, B9s and all) yesterday and so far they love it. You guys did a lot of work thabk you.
My apologies for just now seeing your comment, but thank you for watching and sharing the video around! As you know, there are pros and cons to both Naturally Aspirated cars, and Forced Induction cars. NA cars tend to feel more passionate and lively with throttles that do what you tell them to do. You gotta wring them out sometimes, but in my opinion that is kind of the point. Sure, the mid-range punch from a turbo can be lots of fun. I own and daily drive a Fiesta ST and can attest to this. But hopping in cars like the RS5, a flat-6 Porsche, or even a buzzy NA Miata all still feel like an occasion. Thanks for tuning in! -Gavin
I was thinking about buying rs5 love them of course but had to go with b7 rs4 manual had to plus ultra rare deff going up in value! rs life enjoy your baby !!! I also drive few days a week summer only sunny days 😎 the rs4 deserves a proper life storage winter deff
Good production. As the owner of a 2008 RS4, US spec. By today's standards it's not ZL1 power, but this thing and the 8,000 rpm limiter is a legit blast to drive. Mine is decatted and that sound is the fountain of youth fountain ..I'm sure of it. 😆
I appreciate the time and effort you put into this, but wanted to offer some corrections. Yes, I'm the 'Actually' guy today. I'll be paraphrasing, but on the S8 review, you said that this model and engine played the biggest role in saving Audi. Although it is a great car, it didn't do anything to save Audi. First, it was sold in way too few of numbers to save anything. Second, Audi had already been saved by this point. And the cars that saved them were the B5 A4 and the C4 A6/S6, as well as the B4 80 and C4 100/S4. The D2 A8 came later and still wasn't sold in very large numbers. Not only that, but Audi was still selling plenty of cars outside of the US. They weren't at risk of going under, they were only losing sales in the US after the 60 minutes scam. The engine that 'saved' Audi was the reliable, stout 2.8 12v V6 and the inline turbocharged 5 cylinder that was in the 200/S4/S6. You also mentioned that Audi hadn't done anything between the Audi V8 and the D2 A8/S8, a gap of 13 years or so I think you said. That's just not accurate. The D2 was planned in the early '80s and was released in the rest of the world as the A8 as a 1994 model year. Several years before it was released in the US. Once Audi had stabilized a bit due to the success of the B series and C series chassis, it was released in the US. The S8 is actually on the tail-end of that run, not the beginning of it. You also mentioned that AWD didn't exist in sport models before the S8. That was kind of hard to hear and proves you might not know much about Audi. The original (Ur) quattro had AWD in the early '80s. Then to follow that was the Audi 200 which was their 'sport' version. Remember this is before their new naming convention of the '90s. The first S model was the C4 S4, also called UrS4. This was release in 1992, and guess what, it was AWD. That carried on to the C4 S6, which was still AWD. At the same time, Audi release the RS2 avant, but not in the USA. It was even a higher level of performance than the C4 S4 or 200. This was a sport model that was AWD. It wasn't until about 20 years later that the S8 was released as a sport model with AWD. If you want to research the S2 coupe (which wasn't available in the US), you might be surprised that was made over 30 years ago. You also mentioned that before the S8, Audi was a subsidiary of VW. Not quite. Go ahead and look up Audi's sales figures from the '80s before the 60 Minutes scam. There wasn't platform sharing or even engine sharing with the C chassis in the US. I could go on, but they shared more in the early 2000's with VW than in the 90's. Definitely not acting as a subsidiary. They had established themselves way before the S8 came along as a serious contender. You just didn't know about them yet, probably because you were in preschool. You said that they weren't able to compete with BMW 7 series and Mercedes S class. Yes that is true, but the reason is not quite what you think it is. It's because they weren't trying to compete in that segment until the D2 was released. But because you didn't know about the D2 being released earlier outside of the US than it was in the US, I can understand your confusion. But while you're at, take a look at some reviews of the C4 100/S4 and see where they fit into the puzzle. Not only was the C4 100 competing with Mercedes, the Acura Legend, and other well known cars of the era, it was even winning some of the head to heads. One of you said that all transmissions of that era were bad. Not quite. The tiptronic was a new type of transmission that was horrible. The previous 4 speed automatic ZF transmission in the C4/B4 were actually very responsive and reliable. Then when talking about the S6 you said that you have to go to '90s Japanese for that kind of reliability. Who told you that? The C4 generation is known for easily getting 300k miles without any issues. I hate to break it to you, but they are much better built than the C5's are as well. Then someone said that Audi had been pretty hell bent on automatic for sport variant. Umm no. I hope by now that is obviously wrong. The S8 and S6 were actually the FIRST sport models that Audi sold in the US that didn't come with a manual transmission as standard. In fact an automatic wasn't even an OPTION! Okay now that those few things are out of the way, it would have been great to hear more about the cars themselves. For example on the S6 review, you just kept saying how used and worn out the car was, but not much about the quality of the build. Since I have experience with 3 of the cars on your program, I'll answer that question. For some reason, the C5 generation of the A6/S6 is the worst built car Audi had made since the '80s. It was built to a budget, and it's obvious. Cheap plastic pieces that fall off of the interior, poorly designed headlights that turn signals melt holes in, cheap feeling dash, and a info display that wasn't even close to as durable as the C4 info display. However, C5's are comfortable and roomy. And it's good you reviewed the V8, because the C5 2.7T is an even bigger POS. The C5 hurt the Audi name more than ANY other car they made. Even B6's and B7's have a much better reputation. The C6 was a major improvement in some ways, but it wasn't until the C7 that Audi started to recover the C series reputation. Anyway, glad to have found your channel. Hopefully you found this factual information useful, or at least maybe your viewers will.
Hey man! I appreciate the time and effort for the comment. Funny thing to address initially is I've actually owned a C5 S6, 200 20v avant and currently own a C4 S6, so I do have experience with those cars for sure. Alot of the things that were said are phrased in a way to paint a picture for an audience member that may have little to no info on these cars, which makes it easy to get lost in the weeds of the finer details. For example, it's true the D2 wasn't the first sporty awd vehicle for sure (ie your example of 200 and C4 S6), however to an individual outside of the Audi bubble it may as well have been as you're more likely to see one of those running around than a C4 S6 here in the states at least. Another example is the B5/C5/D2 Era having saved the brand. There's a lot of give and take here and probably more behind the scenes stuff that either of us will ever know, but suffice it to say that the sales numbers for that generation of the brand show the first major upward trend in years. I completely agree that the 200, 90 and S6 did a lot to undo the damage done by the 60 minutes bit, but that bridge wasn't really crossed from a sales perspective until the mid to late 90s. And as far as the C5 in particular goes, it's an interesting mixed bag for sure! I think there were a lot of backwards steps taken in that Era compared to others. A good friend of mine terms it as "Everything up until the C4 was made by the engineers. Everything C5 and later was made by the accountants". I feel that sums it up fairly well in that there was a notable drop in quality across the board compared to their previous generations. Own a C4 and having owned a 200 myself, I completely agree it is very evident that materials quality took a nosedive. Also my reference to automatics was specifically from this Era as, just like you pointed out, prior to this the manuals were abundant compared to the automatics all across the model range and there was a definite shift in the VW group as a whole to get Tiptronic into more cars from 996 Porsches all the way down to Passats. Sadly we can both agree that the generations prior to 5hp19 and 5hp24 Era were more reliable which definitely stained things a little. And as you pointed out a couple of times, these are also coming from someone who is from the states and our time line has always been a little different from others, thus why in the intro of the film we stated that these are the five most exciting models we got here in the states as there's sadly several others we didn't get, so most of my recollections and reflections are based on that and someone here. I do appreciate the comment as it outlines the difficulty we have as presenters attempting to present info to someone for the first time. If we go too far, we lose people's attention that are just learning about these cars. If we don't go far enough, we only scratch the surface and don't dig deep enough to give much meaning. It's a difficult balance and one that we are going to continue tweaking and have. -Justin

Thanks for a great review! I have a B8 S5 as my daily and didn't know if the RS5 was worth the extra cash but I might need to get one now.
Yeeeeeeessssssss 😈
I am considering buying an rs4 b8,5 which is in very good condition. I am driving an Audi s3 8v for almost 5 years. Is It worth buying this Rs4 and selling the s3?
Same 4.2 as in the RS5 but with rear doors and a back seat? YES PLEASE!
So it's not just MY ears with my RS5... they're what keeps me from selling it.
btw, drop the back seats for extra sonic pleasure ;)
The B8.5 RS5 is just timeless. The design hasn't aged a day, the engine and gearbox combination makes effortless and very rapid progress achievable and the quattro system means you can drive it hard without worrying about it chewing you up and spitting you out.
It's a perfect daily.
Couldn't agree more! Thanks for watching!

How has your experience been as far as maintenance and repairs?
You guys are so on point with your comments on the RS5. As an RS5 owner myself I’m as excited each time I drive mine as you were in your review. You never tire of driving this “Moment in time car”.
You own one of the most beautiful Audis IMO. I have always wanted a RS5 to modify. Can you share what the ownership experience is like and have you modified it? I have never left any of my cars stock and since APR is less than 50 miles away from me I know I would never be able to leave mine stock.
@@chesspiece81
I’ve now had mine since 2018.

✅ Luxurious interior

That's exactly how I feel about my 4.2 allroad, only just over 2000 were made in the 05 model year. Chains and guides are done plus a bunch of other stuff. Shortly it'll transition from daily driver to full restoration and Sunday show car status. 6 speed swap (planned) and a full color change, I'm thinking of an audi race livery.

I can not stress enough how excellent this video truly is. Bravo good sir, bravo
Thank you so much!!!
This deserves more views, great video!
Thank you!!! 🙌
This video should have a million views by now. Excellent. You guys are awesome. I've always had a soft spot for Audi and it was so entertaining to watch this 🤗
Thank you for watching and we're glad you enjoyed it!
I just picked up a 14 RS5 with under 15k miles and it has an audi exclusive color, Arrow Grey Pearl Effect. Love the sound, looks and presence of this car. Great Video!
Congratulations! Sounds like it was well bought!
I have a B8.5 S5, not as beastly as an RS5 but I love it and agree it is probably one of the most beautiful cars Audi ever produced. Timeless design. Great vid!
Thanks for watching!
Hold on to it. I've got an RS5 now and i miss my manual akrapovic S5. Laid back grumbling in 6th gear on back roads.
@@sic3b Actually traded it in late last year for a 981 Cayman 6 speed lol
Excellent choice.
Thanks for watching! I remember my best friend's dad leased a couple silver 2.7T C5 A6s back in thr day. It was a cool car for sure.

Awesome video , great informative content . I love the appreciation and exposure of the cars I’ve dedicated so much time into. Really this is top tier , how does this not have a half million followers already ?

Looking forward to creating more content for all of you wonderful people in the not-too-distant future. Cheers!
A most knowledgeable, well researched and comprehensive presentations. Also, facial expressions while behind the wheel speak volumes. I’m a huge Audi fan…
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
Amazing RS5
We completely agree! Audi definitely let this engine leave on a high note with that car! It's quite the unsung hero.
Until an amg pulls up😂
@@rivalspeedusa Sometimes it’s not all about power, it’s about the feeling the car gives you. My prior car was way.. way faster than my rs5. With the rs5, It’s the overall package.

What about the v8 S5 with the manual? I got a 2012, worth a mention!!
That's awesome! Thank you so much for watching!
The 2002 S8. I’m very VERY surprised that there wasn’t any mention of the ALL Aluminum Space Frame and ALL Aluminum body!! Aluminum is in the title!!
So true
Or aluminium
I was gonna say... no mention of ASF and barely mentioned the S8's fame in the movie "Ronin". When I mentioned to my friends I was getting a D2 S8 they were all like "oh, the 'Ronin' car!"
And yes, the 5HP transmission is the worst part of the car.
-Gavin
@@ExhibitionofSpeed you do realize the s8 will outlast all the cars there because of the ASF... if it does not get wrecked ...

Thanks for watching!
Love the rs5...the v8 f1 sound is crazy
As the owner of a garage queen 2008 B7 RS4, I can confirm it's legitimately a 'smiles for miles'. I love how people who know what it is geek out over it, and others think it's just a sedan.

-Gavin
@@ExhibitionofSpeed Agreed, The confidence the RS5 gives you in the Triple Digit Range is a recipe for disaster, but also CRAZY FUN!
Was it only the resonators on the down pipes that were deleted? No modification of centre and back mufflers I take it? No other exhaust mod but the downpipe res delete?
According to the owner, just the resonators. Everything else is stock! - Justin

I love the timing chain 4.2 as well, but probably for different reasons 🤣

WOOOOOO! Thanks for tuning in and for loaning us gear all those times 😘 We genuinely appreciate it dude. Let's go drive sometime 🙌

What a great deal you got on the RS5! Put some miles on it, eh?

Thank you so much for the kind words Mat! We really appreciate it! Let us know how the RS5 hunt goes for you!

Awesome channel and great video on the Alu 4.2V8

its "underrated" in the US because its (unfortunately) so slow compared to LS engines, mustangs, and others

Great vid and I've learned quite a bit!
Thank you so much! We appreciate it!
