    I have had this car for 4 yrs and absolutely love it. Did the same ecs res delete, lowered on H&R sport springs, replaced control arms with 034 adjusables. Cars fantastic, and puts a smile on my face to this day. Speaking of which, I'm going to grab a coffee, just so I can drive the damn thing. Adios

    i just picked up my 2014 RS5 yesterday. i asolutely love it. im an audi tech so ive worked on a few of them, but never really got any behind the wheel time. my brother had a B6 S4, and that started my love for audi, and here i am, buying my first audi, and its the b8.5 RS5. this is my favorite audi, right behind the RS6, so i feel like im living in a dream. im the 5th owner, and the last 4 owners took very good care of it. saw it online for the dealership i work for only at our toyota store, for 2g under book, did my research, and couldnt pass it up. 115k miles, and its still practically new. couldnt be any happier about this purchase. well worth the double cost from my previous car (dodge dart, which was my trade in LOL). its an absolute blast! its my only vehicle, so its my daily.

    27:12 you nailed it right on the head. When I'm looking for my next car that I want as an "enthusiast", I don't even look at anything after 2018 because of EV/emissions standards and just knowing how bad new tech is going to age in cars. When looking for my "dream car" I almost prefer 2000s cars because of the minimal tech, but like you mentioned in the video, the RS5's interior I believe will age pretty well considering how minimal tech there is.

    • @DarkSession6208
      @DarkSession6208 2 роки тому +2

      Its funny because the only car after 2016 that im interested in is the Camaro SS and Vette and C63. Everything else is absolutely fucking boring for me. No matter if RS, M or AMG (amg still the nearest fitting option with the C63).

    • @mzenk17
      @mzenk17 2 роки тому

      @@DarkSession6208 Guess it depends on what you're going for. If you want a torquey car that's good in the low rev range, then the B8.5 RS5 isn't for you and definitely go with a Maro or Vette. If you're looking for a weekend car you can rev out to 8500 rpm, then e92 M3 or RS5 is more ideal. It's all about preference tbh.
      I daily my Maro and feel at easy knowing it's not going to break down on me or cost 10k to fix when something goes wrong. It's perfect for what I use it for.
      I'm just thinking if/when I want a weekend only car, RS5 would def peak my interest (definitely not a daily IMO). I honestly don't see the B8.5 values dipping much from here given how high RS4 values have gone.

  • @michaelreid9966
    @michaelreid9966 2 роки тому +6

    Maybe I misunderstood. BUT....
    The 4.2 liter v8 in the Rs5 is NOT the same was what was in the B7 S4. It's not even the same V8 that is in the R8.
    It is based on the 5.2 liter V10 that Audi made for Lamborghini's Gallardo and then later put in the R8.
    In fact, in North America, the ONLY car that has this engine....is the Rs5. As you mentioned, the B8+Rs4 DID get that engine (Europe).
    I can tell you that you got a MUCH more reliable engine than the B7 Rs4.
    You nailed it about the car being subtle - by specs, it's a semi-exotic. In 3 years, they sent about 3500 Rs5 coupes ( plus about half that number in cabrios IIRC). So, it's rare. In US, there is ONE way to have this motor, and that's the Rs5. Enthusiasts know what it is, but many people have no idea. It is a great "connoisseur" car. Very special, but under-appreciated (for now).
    And yes, if you plan to keep the car, budget for replacement parts and get familiar with Audi forums about trouble-shooting and parts sourcing. Many of the replacement parts are able to be purchased without Audi stamping for MUCH less. You just have to order from original manufacturer who supplied for Audi. Find a QUALITY imports service shop near you, and use them instead of the dealer. They will be familiar with this. (example -->brake rotors)
    I have a 2014 Rs5 - Daytona Grey pearl- Black Optics, Carbon package, sport exhaust option (upgraded to a milltek x-pipe-resonator delete/catback)

    • @WhyBuy
      @WhyBuy  2 роки тому +1

      Absolutely, you are correct. In fact, looking at the 4.2 in the B7 RS4 and the R8, even those V8's are slightly different, where the R8 had a dry sump and lighter fly wheel I believe. To clarify, the B7 engine is what led the purchase, the inspiration to ultimately buying the RS5 to have a high revving NA V8.
      Can't say thank you enough for sharing insightful feedback and thank you for watching 👍

    • @Fingers_UK
      @Fingers_UK 2 роки тому +1

      @@WhyBuy I was going to comment on this too, but searched first and found this comment. Yes, the RS5 V8 engine is basically 4/5's of the V10 used in the V10 R8, Lamborghini Huracán and Gallardo. Its not an evolution of the original Audi V8.
      With the move towards reduced emissions, downsized turbo engines, EV's etc. I wanted to own a normally aspirated V8 while I could, so early in 2020 I took the plunge and got a low mileage, end of the line 2015 B8.5 RS5 coupe.... I love it !

    Great Video, thank you for that, it touched my soul. I'm driving my B8.5 RS5 since 2018 and I'm confirming all said in the video. I would only add the amazing optics and the sound of the beeping horn - I was driving in Germany on the unlimited speed stretch with 285km/h after dark, when some lunatic jumped in front of me with probably no more than 130 km/h, Michelin winter tires + ABS + Stability Control + Quattro and all the other Audi Technologies saved my (and presumably other motorists' lives), I just applied with my head lights and I saw the lungs of the lunatic (they looked as Covid free) and the sound of the horn, in it's high tones (probably derived from Lambo) - I have never ever used the head lights and the horn since I'm driving the car, it was really something special, I'm not sure what excites me more now, the sound of the engine in the dynamic mode or the sound of the horn, or the X-ray effect of the head lights on the RS5...

    You and i have the same taste in cars. I came across this video because i am doing research on RS5, specifically the convertible. My first car was a 2001 Audi A6 with the 4.2 engine. I've loved Audi ever since. Bought a 2000 Audi A6 with the 4.2 engine but with a manual that needed repairs. Repaired it enough to drive and it was the best car i ever driven uo to that point. Had 2 cars then owned a 2014 Audi S7. My God, that car was my dream car. I had kids then traded it for a sequoia. Time goes by, i looked for an Audi again, particularly the B8.5 S5 with the manual trans. All of them were far from me so i chose one of your alternatives, a 2016 Mustang gt premium. That car was so much fun and sounded great and fast, but it just wasnt me, and i got unhappy with it fast. Gave it up. And here i am looking for my next Audi. I considered the b7 rs4 because it has 5 seats and has car seat hooks, but i think its too old. So now im looking for an RS5 convertible. And luckily, they have seat hooks as well. The babies can feel the breeze. I cant wait to get one. Thank you for this video.

    I test drove one a few months ago, and I had the same reaction as you. Unbelievable downshifts that gave me the biggest smile. My biggest concerns are the same as yours, that all of the used cars are pretty beat up and 7 years old, and the repair bills are just not something I'm willing to deal with. Also, the used car market right now is just crazy. For now I will be keeping my Camaro SS, but I'll be looking out for a good conditioned RS5 that I would love to own.

    I've just purchased a 2014 B8.5 RS5 in Sepang Blue. My buying experience was much like yours; tried one, adored it, but struggled to find one in the spec and condition I wanted. When I did, it was a little more money than I'd planned to spend... but I genuinely thought about your RS4 experience, and decided I couldnt miss it.
    Don't regret it, its the perfect daily driver; comfortable, impeccable build quality, and when you want to have fun it leaves the most ridiculous grin on your face.

    Just bought a Daytona Grey Pearl 2015 yesterday with 50k miles on it. My dream car! Let me tell you these cars are fast!!! I was driving home on a high speed toll road from the dealership and was over 100 without getting about 3500 rpm's. This car is insanely fast!!! Checked off all my boxes with this one! Plus with the 20 Titanium package and the sport exhaust it sounds violent on the down shifts, it's sounds like a shotgun every time it downshifts.

    Liked the increased volume of the resonator delete, but for me the X pipe removed some of the V8 muscle sound and smoothed it. Think I would go H pipe on resonator removal... Thanks for a great taste of the car anyway 😁

      Thanks for the feedback, and for what's its worth, the audio in the video doesn't 100% represent the accurate tone of the exhaust. If you are referring to uneven airflow like what an H pipe produces, then yes, it will be different than an X pipe, however if it's that low end deep bass sound, it certainly maintains that nice V8 rumble. I have watched I don't even know how many videos on UA-cam about the B8.5 RS5 as I had a monstrous love for them since the Frankfurt Motorshow in 2011. I grew up watching Top Gear and in the mid 2000's (want to say 2005 +\- about 1 year) Clarkson did the review on the B7 RS4. From that day on that was my "I want to have an RS one day" moment and fell in love with Audi. Before that I was a VW guy anyways owning around 5-6 different VW's by this point so it was a natural transition for me. Bought my A4 first and loved it and then as mentioned, the RS5 was announced. I was never in a financial position then to afford a brand new one as you mentioned, you are looking at realistically $105-110k taxes in, all said and done... so it wasn't in the cards. I told myself I will be smart, I will wait for it to be 3 years old, depreciate enough I can afford it and jump into one. Then the better got of me and I said "I will actually wait until the 3rd year iteration of the car so that they can fix a lot of the early generational issues - so that now put me on a 2014 or 2015 +3 years... so 2017-2018. The last part for me was it HAD to be Sepang Blue. The first time I saw a Sepang Blue RS5 I had a true jaw drop moment where I was probably drooling on myself and my girlfriend at the time was likely thinking "why doesn't he look at me like that"... but we know how it is lol. I spent the next couple years (2016\17) constantly watching for one to pop up in Sepang Blue but they never did. Then by chance, one day when I had basically given up already I went to visit a buddy of mine that is a sales manager at a dealership and he came out, said hi and then said "I think you should come for a walk with me, I've got something you will probably want to see". It did NOT clue in on me that he had an RS5 and he didn't call me when he got it in 3 days prior because he knew I was looking for one and he knew I was coming to visit that day... so he wanted to keep it a surprise. He even delayed the listing of it to the day I came to visit so that it wouldn't be swooped up before I had a chance in it. LOOONGGG winded story to short, I test drove it, walked in with a certified cheque the next morning and drove off. Like you experienced, I test drove it and the pre-pubescent childish whimpering that came out of me every time I stomped on it, I have never experienced "car joy" like that since. I have driven faster cars by a long shot that wow'd me, but nothing has ever sung quite like my RS5. I've done a few tasteful changes to the car, namely a new exhaust, new wheels, stage 2 tuned and replaced the MMI with a 10.5" android setup but other than that... I have kept everything else as is. I agree, this is a car that will live on, people still see it to this day and if I go out doing errands, groceries, etc... I usually get a bare minimum of at least 1 thumbs up
    ice car and it never gets old.

      Wow, thank you! 😀 It's awesome to open up the comments and read a shared story/experience. Thank you sincerely for making the time to type this, and in detail share your story. Also, couldn't agree more, Sepang blue (and I checked your channel) in that exact configuration is stunning. RS5's are rare cars, I've only seen 1 in Sepang Blue here in Alberta drive past me, and it was gorgeous. Akin to the sprint blue B7 RS4 that still holds my top spot for "one day I will own it" cars. The mod's you have done are also interesting, I can see doing that to mine, namely the MMI as it's getting long in the tooth, but the stage 2 is also intriguing 🤔 For what it's worth, we'd love to feature you and your Sepang Blue B8.5 on our channel. If you are in Canada, it would be great to arrange a film shoot and cover your story on video 😎 Let us know if that is something of interest! Otherwise, congrats on finally buying your dream RS5 (I still pinch myself when I drive mine), and thank you again for sharing your story, this was a treat to read 👍

    Wow. Thank you so much for this video. It’s uncanny how your thought process has mirrored mine (or rather it’s very similar). Reading how you came to your decision gives me confidence that my thinking is sound.
    Note: For those who don’t want to read my long-winded thoughts, just jump to the last paragraph.
    7 years ago I could financially afford and justify a weekend toy. It came down to a choice of one of 3 cars that were all German V8 sedans from my favourite period of 2006-2012: the BMW E90 M3, Audi B7 RS4 and the C63 AMG. I read many, many tests and agonised over my decision for a long time. It was easy to eliminate the C63 because I wanted a manual transmission. Then after many test drives of RS4s and M3s I decided on the M3 because it was the more rewarding and engaging drive. It was so willing to change direction with an amazingly well-connected front end … even if the exterior looks and interior ergonomics fell short of the Audi.
    I haven’t regretted my decision and the M3 has provided lots of driving pleasure. However, fast forward a few years and I wanted to keep the M3 and buy a new daily drive. I’m still in love with the B7 RS4 and there are still quite a few available on the used market here in Australia. However my regular driving takes place in a congested city with heavy traffic sometimes requiring lots of stop/start driving. So I really needed an auto or DCT. With the RS4 only available in a manual, I started to consider a B7 S4. Sure it wasn’t all that powerful, but the power was adequate for around town. The size is just right and the dashboard is arguably one of the best deigns ever.
    I actually found a S4 in a great Imola Yellow colour with very low km and in mint condition. However I took too long to decide and someone else bought the car. That car was ‘the one that got away’ and it took me ages to get over that. Over time I came to the conclusion that it’s unlikely I’ll ever find my dream S4 as only 72 B7s were ever imported into Australia. Quite likely none of these were in my favourite Sprint Blue. I looked into importing a B7 S4 from Japan or the UK, but Australian Government import regulations currently prohibit that.
    So I test drove some other options. I’m a BMW fan but I rejected a F87 M2 competition pack after a test drive that left me underwhelmed. The salesman couldn’t believe it when I came back from a test drive and expressed my disappointment that it wasn’t more powerful! Then I drove a 2014 B8.5 RS5 and thought “Hey, this is OK. I don’t want to get out!”. I loved the acceleration and the bi-modal exhaust note even if I’m not all that fond of a 2 door coupe or a panorama roof. The steering ratio is acceptably direct even if the feel is not great due to electric steering. I remembered that Enzo Ferrari was quoted as saying “I don’t sell cars; I sell engines. The cars I throw in for free since something has to hold the engines in.” I thought that philosophy could apply to the magnificent Audi 4.2L V8. So I bought the engine and the RS5 body came with it! The one I bought is not the cleanest example. It’s had 4 previous owners in 3 different States and not much has been spent on maintenance in recent years. So it’s almost a bit a project car that’s currently consuming a vast amount of money. However, when it’s restored to its former glory, it will be the most stunning RS5 around in a special order bright blue colour. I can’t wait to start driving it.

    Congratulations on an absolutely superb review of this iconic car. I graduated from an A5 to the RS5 in 2018 after a l-o-n-g and patient search. Although the A5 is an eminently practical vehicle (and possibly a more sensible daily driver with its lower running costs) it cannot hold a candle to the RS5 when it comes to smiles-for-miles, presence and sledgehammer like performance.
    I was actually inspired to seek out an RS5 by the very entertaining Rosenthal review of the vehicle; which gave interested viewers a short, summarised overview with a delightful touch of humour. Check it out as it's great viewing. Back then it was also a very professional production at a time when the majority of posts were actually quite amateurish.
    One of the issues (apart from the obvious requirement of low mileage) which delayed my purchase was my preference for an interior that was anything other than black leather/alcantara; which I find drab and bordering on depressing.
    Eventually I was fortunate enough to find a 2014 Daytona Grey Pearlescent vehicle with grey Napa leather upholstery which, to my taste, looks wonderful and adds an impression of lightness and airiness to the interior. Each to his own!
    But what surprised me about this video was the sudden and unexpected mention of the Honda Fit ( called Jazz in my country). I am fortunate to own 4 vehicles ( Audi RS5, 981 Porsche Cayman S, Toyota Yaris GR with Track Pack [ a sensational small car not offered in North America ] &........a Honda Jazz/Fit! ). It struck me as really interesting that our history in vehicles should be so closely matched. The Jazz/Fit plays the role of 'family workhorse' and plays a vital role in transporting people, large items etc., at negligible cost. It is also a useful standby when travelling to dodgy areas where the security of the car when unattended might be at risk. ( We have a thriving car hijacking industry in South Africa). If one focuses on the true purpose of a car - the safe journeying from A - Z within the speed limit at nominal expense with amazing versatility! - then it possibly ranks as the best car we own.
    Lastly - it was a pleasure to watch a long video where the presenter did not shout at me and whine on in a hard-to-listen to nasal twang.
    Top class.

    Watched the entire video, I feel the exact same way, super underrated car but I like that because it’s less popular it feels more exclusive on the road. (Especially where M4s plague the road here in Northern Ireland.) The sound alone after the resonator delete makes buying it worthwhile in itself. Glad that you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

      Good you can drive it daily, in Uk fuel is much too expensive so I’ve an A4 avant diesel as a daily. As nice as the Rs5 would be to daily, I’m trying to keep miles low (33k currently)

      @@chubbsmasterson Completely agree, if I could, I would do the same. Avant's are beautiful, and a diesel would be perfect. Luckily I don't have to commute, just drive when I want to drive. Again, thanks for your feedback, and wow! 33k miles, you have discipline 😮

    Thanks for this apt tribute to a timeless vehicle. Since you’re such a fan of the model, did you know Audi sent 75 Limited Sports Editions to the US in 2015? No one should feel they missed out, though. It takes the interior to a new level with red leather. Audi added special wheels, also. I love mine. Glad you found your dream car. Thank you for the kind feedback, and to answer your question, make sure to look for a clean service record. Many RS5 owners will keep a very accurate log of all maintenance and services done, also, it is a good idea to have it inspected by a third party before you buy. I have a panther black RS5 and everyone that sees it comment on how beautiful the car looks and how the color is not an everyday black (deep purple up close black from a distance). By the way, the big bwaaaaaps during shifting do actually have a technical function. Its the ignition cutoff during shifts to protect the clutches. Thats why almost all dual clutch cars these days make that sound while shifting. It sounds a lot more agressive on a V8 though :))
