22:00 - 22:24 GAVE ME GOOSE BUMPS! as soon as you hit the solo notes, I could see my hairs standing up! xD very cool! I know this is 3 years old but MAN! I dig this stuff!
The main thing is to do it a bunch and not get frustrated. This is an intentionally limiting exercise, so it can easily turn into riff salad. The goal is to keep a consistent thread throughout the song so even when the beat gets weird you still know it's the same song.
I raise the challenge What about any random scale being the key (diminished-half-whole, double-harmonic major, Hungarian, jazz scales, ultra-locrian, super-lydian)...
Best episode yet man. Really love that format. My only critique would be, there was some sort of low static happening whenever you would show us the soloed drum tracks. Either way though, absolutely enjoyed it, and I hope to see more episodes like it. Keep up the awesomeness!!!!! 😎
I used to do a similar thing on garage band before I took writing more seriously and started programming the drums I wanted to make and I miss doing the mix and match, I think I'll go back to it sometime.
This shit is Tuff! 💪🏻👊🏻🤘🏻Love your playing Trey, lead lines are melodic and on point and the chunk of that 7 string makes me kinda want one. Killer idea for a series and a great way to spark creativity. Also, dual harmonizing lead lines with Tyler was a treat. Keep it up my man!
A song is a single (and often standalone) work of music that is typically intended to be sung by the human voice with distinct and fixed pitches and patterns using sound and silence and a variety of forms that often include the repetition of sections.
Halfway through the song, my right ear just completely cut out. Normally this wouldn't be *that* much of an issue except I'm not using earbuds/headphones.
I think it would be more interesting to have rythms from more music styles (like funk, jazz, etc...) for the writing process. I like the series, but picking all metal rythms is not as random as it could be. Nice video though, keep it up :D
Love your vids man! I’ve been using Sup 3.0 too lately. Still getting to know it. By chance, would you want to post your kit that you are using as a downloadable file for Others to play with?? Keep it up bro
THEORY QUESTION!? @ 16:40 I get the idea of starting with a melody but how do you use it to get the chords? Do you just use chords that highlight the same note as the key from which you derived the melody?
That's a really good question, and like, an insanely long and complex answer hahaha. Short version: find chords that contain the melody notes when they're happening. There's a lifetime of study in harmony but that'll get you started!
Haha I feel so excited I actually asked a relevant music theory question for once, ive been trying to pick up as much of it as I can recently. Your answer makes real sense to me, which thankfully means im not as clueless as I thought. Sounds like I could use some more knowledge in chord voicings and getting more familiar with different scales so i can tie them together in a musical way, thanks Gear Gods!
I noticed if I use 88.2khz sample rate instead of the 41000 my latency goes away to almost being non existent. Is there anything wrong with doing this? Like playback issues or exporting issues? I can't believe how much tighter it sounds with 88.2. I'm doing exactly what your doing and I'm learning how many guitars to use and where to pan them and how to play tight. Do you just do 2 left guitars, 2 right guitars and then put the lead down the center? The final mix sounds bad ass my friend? Hopefully I can get to that sound sooner than later! Just subbed. What is a good drummer plugin to use that's fairly inexpensive? Is the superior drummer 3 really worth 300 bucks?
Hey Trey, thinking about ordering a multiscale guitar but the question is how easy would be to switch from uniform scale to multiscale and vise-versa, as I `m not gona get rid from my other instruments
So next up, same concept, but with a guitar. Take EZMix guitar plugins and randomize them for each part. These will then be the main themes and guidelines for you to build up on and add to. -T
Trey streams songwriting on Twitch every Sunday at 11am PST here: bit.ly/TREYXAVIERWRITES

man your lead playing is so interesting
Rudy Ayoub Now just wait for all the triggered fools to come and give you hate because they don't know the differen the between interesting and bad...
lmao, nah Trey's playing for me at least sounds so out of the box and I just enjoy listening to him play
Yeah I get it but other people won't 😂
tru
No! Your playing is bad kid, not Trey's!
The finished song has me feeling like I’m fighting the final boss in a jrpg
by far my favorite of your videos is this random drum groove series.
I really like this approach to writing. I think it makes things more interesting. Great 👍 job!
I'd rather see more of the writing process than random number generating. Just my personal preference
Same
Go to his twitch then
Those song writing skills make this look easy. Tried it myself and came up with gobbledygook salad. Love these videos.
The main thing is to do it a bunch and not get frustrated. This is an intentionally limiting exercise, so it can easily turn into riff salad. The goal is to keep a consistent thread throughout the song so even when the beat gets weird you still know it's the same song.
Solid advice thanks man.
I also somehow deleted all the grooves from toontack so I'm using SSD4 but I'll keep trying lol
I refuse to accept that there are 40 different black metal choruses (I love black metal, but, c'mon).
BassasaurusRex 😆
Bet a lot of them are just variations of 5 unique ones.
@@joseluis.colungag I can confirm that the Progressive Foundry is literally that.
Guess you never heard of Sigh or Sargeist. They have at least that many different and amazing choruses
WE NEED RANDOM TIME SIGNATURES!!
Then it would take months to finish the video lol.
I actually REALLY like this video series!!!!
The album would be called "Pure Hazard"? ☺️
Your Kiesel sound so awesome!!
Get Sarah Longfield for your next soloist!
Anteaterman23 yes, yes, and more yes!
Awwwww yeeeeaaaah
He actually did it
I'm gonna agree with other comments. Best series of your vids yet. It's inspired me to work on a few ideas. Thanks, man!
I love these videos. This seems like a wonderful exercise to keep our creative side fresh
I raise the challenge What about any random scale being the key (diminished-half-whole, double-harmonic major, Hungarian, jazz scales, ultra-locrian, super-lydian)...
This has been an amazing series. Hopefully when you have 10-15 of these, it will be an epic album.
It's always fun to see Tyler play guitar. Great jam.
How dare you reroll because of "fills only", be a man and take on the challenge!
If you paid attention, you would notice he didn't acc re roll and he used the Tom beats
Best episode yet man. Really love that format. My only critique would be, there was some sort of low static happening whenever you would show us the soloed drum tracks. Either way though, absolutely enjoyed it, and I hope to see more episodes like it. Keep up the awesomeness!!!!! 😎
Im super late but that static sound is really harsh and I cant help but wonder why he didn't take care of that
I used to do a similar thing on garage band before I took writing more seriously and started programming the drums I wanted to make and I miss doing the mix and match, I think I'll go back to it sometime.
Superb stuff... with Tyler Roads solo ... excellent job loved every bit of it!
Why does he avoid saying who the guest is like it's a surprise, when their name is in the video title
Big fan of your videos man. Keep em coming
Dude the end results were really good. The chorus was catchy to. Just amazing I loved it.
I like these videos can you or do you have a video about lyric writing I like how you write and wondering what is your process of writing
Your a lot more charismatic this video! I’m glad your more energetic and happy!
This is a really cool series, I hope you keep it going!
A song is a single (and often standalone) work of music that is typically intended to be sung by the human voice with distinct and fixed pitches and patterns using sound and silence and a variety of forms that often include the repetition of sections.
uhhhh cool thanks
@@treyxaviermusic Why don't you have vocals on it?
@@jasonstetsonofficial because it's instrumental
@@treyxaviermusic wow
Turned out way better than I expected. Kudos to you!
I think this may be my favorite video from you ever Trey. Good stuff my man. :)
This is awesome to watch! Im not a musician but this too me is very relaxing kinda in the same way as watching bob ross paint.
This is gold! Keep doing these!
Halfway through the song, my right ear just completely cut out. Normally this wouldn't be *that* much of an issue except I'm not using earbuds/headphones.
hyper biscuit you good?
I love these you should do a bunch!

10/10 comment
Love this series. Keep going!
You, Sir, just got another subscriber. Cool video, very inspirational. :)
Any chance you guys can also post the full process of these?
Please do more of these
I just got done making a whole system that does this with only one style of drum grooves (grindcore) and it uses DND dice haha
rag an drop challenge pffst this is life for me who got time to program midi drums from scratch lol
And, finally, over any rhythm/style (mambo, funk, metal, jazz, blues). are you up, peer?
Really dig these random drum groove videos
Very Chimaira-esque, I dig it
Let fate decide! ...Seven 😂 really cracked me up
You make it look easy. Nice job!
this is super inspiring!
tyler solos are fucking awesome !!!!!!!!!!
WOOOW that sound fucking amazing
This is sick!!! Good job m8!
There are a couple of song structure generator. I hope it helps.

I would blast the shit out of this in my car. This song ended up incredible. Good job, Trey!
Thanks dawg! You can in fact blast this in your car: bit.ly/2n6OvbV
Gear Gods awwwwwwwwww yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
He's filling his infinity dice gauntlet.
Love that flipping Kiesel
I would love to see this method applied to other genres (funk, blues, etc)
awesome idea
Love your vids man! I’ve been using Sup 3.0 too lately. Still getting to know it. By chance, would you want to post your kit that you are using as a downloadable file for
Others to play with?? Keep it up bro
So basically writing prog metal. Still cool. My band is going to start recording tracks and this sort of gives me an idea of how production works
Tight work!!

We need a Black Metal Christmas song. Something about Krampus.
You can always use a capo for the trickier keys!
This is so fucking awesome
"We can't have a pre-chorus that's only fills" try telling that to Brann Dailor of Mastodon
That’s what you got from two amazing musicians youtuber
You Are A Genius! 🤘🏻

That... That was EPIC!
you say you tune to A standard. What gauge string do you use for such low tuning and do you use a wound g-string?
10-68, plain G string!
You should have named the video "watch me roll dice on my phone"
THIS IS GENIOUS
Did the key change happen in the chorus?
Yeah, I did it in kind of a slick way so it's hard to tell
Gear Gods when I heard it, I thought it was cool, proggy af
What pro tools version is that
Get rabea!
Hey Trey, thinking about ordering a multiscale guitar but the question is how easy would be to switch from uniform scale to multiscale and vise-versa, as I `m not gona get rid from my other instruments
This was fucking awesome.
that chorus is very trivium esque
Great FUCKING video, this is effort at is best, not only must this have taking for you forever to record but also a shit long time to edit.
Some mighty fancy fiddlen fellas.
(Say that 3x fast 😜)
Banger
This was fucking heavy
5 min in and im pumped!
YEEHAW A THIRD ONE!!!
Should have stuck with the fills for that pre chorus.
intro gives me Upon A Burning Body vibes lmao

Over any time signature (6/8, 6/4, 11/8, 7/4)...
🎶🎵 Weeeewwww dii dooooooooo 🎵🎶
The chorus kinda sounds like Every Day is Night
already a new one :D I can't compete with that :P
First verse power metal pack, just drums sound like iron maiden
You just made songwriting look very easy...
Guitarists made often don’t sound like drummers
Now submit this to Glenn for a mix review? LOL
Dnd of song writing.
Very slightly reminds me of the band avatar
That was satisfyingly janky and proggy.
Getting Ihsahn vibes here
