I remember seeing this in the import bins back in 87 when I was 18 in the record stores. I never have picked this one up, yet. But, I do love this album. My guilty pleasure on this album is 'Down on Your Knees" but I really enjoy all of the new tracks. Funny thing I always say about Gene and Paul's writing style. Gene writes in quantity and then patches songs together like a quilt, a piece from here and there. Paul writes for quality, and he crafts his songs, he is a song architect. On my channel I always call Paul's stand out songs a "Paul Stanley Construction" Great video!
Legend Tonight is my favorite of the "new" tracks. Its got a perfect 80's sound to it, almost like it should be in the soundtrack of your favorite 80's movie.
@@anywayyousliceitreviewsWhat is the very best version ? Soundboard Live from 1982-1999 Take Me ? And I would not mind multiple years versions 1984,1989 those are just examples tho
Hello! From what I can tell, in the years you mentioned they only performed Take Me briefly for a period on the Reunion tour. Which is a shame seeing how it's so damn good! All my favorite versions are certainly from the Love Gun tour.
Love this channel! I'm so stoked thay Indiscovered you. What country/pressing is the Down On My Knees misprint? I have a dozen Killers albums from various countries, and I don't seem to have that! Thanks.... - Brian
Oh wow interesting! It's the Phonogram CANL 1 And yeah I was going to make this my album to really go after and get a lot of versions of but then I saw some cassettes for like $100 haha. I guess so far I've dug into the elder more than the other albums because I have a handful of CDs, handful of different cassettes and some vinyl versions. I got to get into it and scout around for some cool killers versions because it's such a fun album with that striking cover
As I recall, KILLERS was an easy album to get a hold of when it was released. Most good stores made a point to have it on hand. Sometime by mid-to-late 1983, or early 1984, one of the import distributors was able to get them over here (US / New York state) for almost a "budget" price. So, instead of the record selling for $7.99 to $8.99, they were now going for $3.99 to $5.99. I wasn't a Kiss fan yet, but I always hawked through the "budget" and "cut-out" albums every time I hit a store. The only other things Kiss related in the racks like that was the 1978 solo albums. Interesting times.
In Germany, "Down on your knees" was released as a single. The B-side was "Nowhere to run". It would probably have been wiser to do it the other way around, as in my opinion "Nowhere to Run" would have been more likely to appeal to the masses. Also, “Nowhere to Run” is a slightly better song. The four new songs are all easy to listen to, but none have hit potential. My ranking: Nowhere to run Down on your knees I’m a legend tonight Partners in crime The other songs are well-known Kiss classics. Overall, the album is easy to listen to and have fun with Again: Very interesting show, Peter & Jason!👍🤘 Keep on rocking and greetings from Germany 🇩🇪🤘👍🎸🌎🇺🇸
Love all four songs but Nowhere to Run is my favorite of all their 80's songs. I wish I still had my vinyl copy I got back around that time, great show
Back in for more...keeping it random with what comes up in the feed. I was still into KISS, although I didn't pick up Killers until the early 90s (late musical bloomer here). Totally understood why Killers was sent out, but wish it would've been released stateside as well. The late Bob Kulick delivers mightily one again on the new songs - all great, with Nowhere to Run one of the best PS songs ever imho. Excellent stuff as always gents!
Really dug your review. I have always loved the 4 new tracks, but loved that you touched on the cover. The pink, the brown, and the yellow beam of light, combined with the ELDER outfits, to me just gives this album such a great 80’s feel. 💯 Perfection. As a DYNASTY fan, I always love when I can hear “IWMFLY” on the same album as “God Of Thunder”, so again, I totally agree, a wonderful play from beginning to end. Super glad to have found your channel. ❤❤❤ your room setup! That’s a Friday night hangout for sure! Take care.
Think Pages sloppiness comes from taking crazy improv chances Since I been loving you has so many dif intricate parts. Steve Albini said something like Jimmie wasn’t as concerned with the execution of a miss hit here n there when they were recording his solo album as he was conveying what the song was trying to say ..paraphrasing ofc
Bob Kulick made it clear and simple, Gene & Paul were pulling the band in two different directions. Paul brought in a few demos and Kulick rip up some leads on them and was told "nope, not like this, not like that..." That pissed him off at this point and he broke out the wammy bar and ripped out some string bending sounds Frehley would never do. Kulick could see this band couldn't compete with the Van Halen or the Randy Rhoads. The newer bands adapted the hammer on tapping style we all heard on the Van Halen albums. Some new bands took that style to new heights and some didn't do it so well. But speed was the word for the 80'S. This wasn't anything but a contractual obligation that had 4 new songs added to it and it wasn't really found in the states for a few years, no one I knew had ever heard of it, the magazines never had it in the line up of all the albums from the past, it was a Eruo/Eastern thing. It didn't look like a KISS album wither, it's a pink, yellow, brown and blue. And by the time this had been found in the bins at record stores in the midwest it was already about 5-6 years old. It was like the summer of 1987 and there it is, Crazy Nights was about to be released and the band had been out of make up for 4-5 years now and here's this weird looking album, with the band in Elder gear. Even the store guy was like " They came in with the last batch of merch." I grabbed one, a West German copy with the flat S'. When I got the CD it was a nice Japanese copy with all the songs on it. The new songs were good. I like Down On Your Knees the best, it sounded a little like AC/DC. The other three were filler in my mind, nothing special at all except for Kulick's riffing. Overall it was like the radio edits of all make up era classic songs. And when we finally found it the name "Killers" had me wondering if it had something to do with the Creatures Of The Night album, thus a song called Killers is on that record. It did not. Times were changing, the new Metal british bands were making their mark on the states. Speed was definitely a factor, MTV was a factor, tapping on the frets was a factor, the new band wore a lot of animal prints, the 80'S style was long hair, bushed out, hair dried to the max, powerful sounds and big festivals that would be broadcast around the world. The L.A. music scene was producing newer bands day after day, the movies started using Metal on the soundtracks. R&B was becoming Rap, New Wave was all over and it was kind of fizzling out by '84. A new band came out of the west coast, they thrived in speed, double kick drums and hard vocals, not really sung, but shouted out at the audience. Their message wasn't dick songs, they sang of angst and pain, Metal was associated with hard livin', pain and suffering. Metallica was on the march. Rhythmic, fast, head banging fans, young guys, the people KISS forgot about. KISS was going in too many directions at once and none of them good. The idea to go in the studio and put out a Hard Rock album this time, to show people they could still do it would be the answer. Producer in hand, Michael James Jackson, he was right there and wanted to work with them. Frehley however was out of the question, too many demons had taken over his mind and soul, he couldn't play, he couldn't think, hell he couldn't stand at that point, but he could drive and crash! So he was hush hush out, the band had to keep that quiet, contracts ya know.
Love these reviews. I'm a Legend Tonight - Like it a lot, but for the song title more than anything. Down on Your Knees - Has always sounded like an AC/DC song to me. Nowhere to Run - One of their all-time best. That bridge, the vocals...Wow. Even if Paul did rip-off some of the melody from the Supremes 'Back in My Arms Again.' Hell, he even directly stole that "It's not gonna happen twice" line to boot. That takes balls. Partners in Crime - I've always loved pop-KISS. I think it was the Alive III 'IWMFLY' cd single that had a better mix of this one as a b-side. It has more bite. Looking forward to watching more.
Ace is the most melodic guitarist kiss had and there best period you can hum his solos there tasteful and structured instead of playing a pile of sloppy notes.

I've heard you say that. It's a great way to describe Paul's process for sure. They do write totally the opposite of each other!

Yeah it's a lost classic. Ridiculous that you don't ever hear them. Play it on any of the tours like the creatures tour or the lick it up tour

Yeah that was so fun to see it with those European S's and I thought wow. This is truly rare haha, but yeah it was around for the gettin
Can’t believe they didn’t release it in the US Nowhere to run and Legend tonight could’ve easily been hits imo
Yeah. Kinda crazy, but then everything they did then was great so they weren't scared the well was gonna go dry or anything
