Very interesting, thorough comparison! I'm glad you used a vintage SKX, as it's wonderful to see how it ages. Thanks to these homages Seiko fans can have what Seiko never gave us, a hacking and hand winding SKX!

At what point does a mod watch become an homage? If a Seiko was modded with sapphire Chrystal, new bracelet, NH36 and milled clasp,is it really an SKX anymore? I don't have the answer, more a philosophical question 😊

Nice review ! I pulled the trigger on the SD 1996 as I like its blue dial a lot , plus it was 20$ cheaper than the HEIMDALLR SKX007 . I won the lottery as I have been wearing it for 47 days and it only gain 58 sec ! I am stunned , I didn't get that accuracy not even with my OBRIS MORGAN EXPLORER II which is using a - theoretically - more accurate Miyota 9015 Now I feel like pulling the trigger on an orange HEIM SKX 007 as well as on a Monster - blue or red - I have an original SKX173 moded with sapphire an oyster strapcode bracelet but it's still NIB .
It's strange but my SD 1996 has BGW-9 on the bezel . Yours might be an olde version ? Lume is very decent but the lume from the SD 1970 model which I have as well is definitely longer lasting ! I LOVE the bezel action on those 2 x Steel Dives . More than the bezel movement on ARMIDA A7 / OBRIS MORGAN EXPLORER or HELM VANUATU although those are MUCH more expensive watches

In regards to the water resistance, the Seiko is in fact DIVERS 200 And while the sharky states “divers 200” I doubt that it is and is more likely just 200 m, same as the steel dive
None of the homages ever get the taper of the jubilee bracelet right. The taper on the Seiko is much narrower giving it that great range of flexibility. I personally discount the Steeldive from the list because of the lack of the day/date complication, with it just having the date only.
Lets not fiorget the other two watches wouldn't be there without the Seiko SKX but be it as it may. The Seiko is still the best looking watch but the weakness of Hardlex became pretty much visible. The Steeldive is a missed opportunity to make a better watch with it's subpar lume pip and the hollow end links. The Heimdallr seems to be the best made watch, the crystal and the lume seemed to be the best, if it wasn't for the dodgy bezel action. Nice comparison mate!
