Here's Everything GREAT about Alan Wake 2! I hope you enjoy the video! This is the biggest video that Gabe has written so I hope you show him some love and enjoy it! This game is a beast so you can expect the next part next week. Alan Wake isn't a series I've ever played but Gabe has got lots of history with it so no better than for him to take it on.

I personally liked Sagas part of the game more, but the full on live action concert going on in a mission is one of the best things I have ever played

Herald of Darkness gets a lot of the attention but Dark Ocean Summoning is the real stand out. That whole part was so damn epic . Remedy one-upping themselves from Ashtray Maze

@@Matt-bg5wgIt made me wonder about how much of the area around Cauldron Lake has the reality altering effect. The FBC should really consider playing it safe by blocking the entire forest off from the public.
Imagine if some "Twilight" superfan decides to camp out in the forest and write Edward Cullen fan fiction all night long. Then when the sun rises the next morning, Alan is all glittery and saying shit like "This is the skin of a killer, Saga... I'm a killer."
Love this! However, small nitpick at 6:43, James McCaffrey played Director Trench in Control. Matthew Porretta, the voice of Alan, played Dr. Darling who also makes a return in this game as well!
Especially fun when seeing both him and Illka Villi, the live-action actor for Alan, get on-screen together as their respective characters in Dr. Darling and Tom Zane.

Alan Wake 2 is definitely one of those games that has a ridiculously obscure lores. Its what made Remedy's games so unique, along with Control. The Old Gods of Asgard songs are definitely the highlight of the game.
Casey is a real guy btw.
As a child, Alan had nightmares where were echoes from the future during his time in the dark place. It gave him visions of the future, and he used these visions as inspiration for his writing.
One of these visions was a NYC law enforcer named Alex Casey.
I had a similar theory as you initially, believing that Wake wrote Casey into reality to rescue him from the dark place, but I like how they’ve changed it because it means Casey isn’t just some soulless tulpa but instead a real person with a connection with Saga.
With this, all of the echoes Alan discovers in the dark place are of real world events that have already transpired, though through the lens of his writing.
Alex Casey, being a real guy, actually was harassed by a cult. Nothing with the New York cult had anything to do with Alan’s changing of reality. Instead, he came across an echo of it and used it for Initiation.

The Writers room is the opposite of Sagas mind place. Alan is PHYSICALLY stuck in the room and sends his mind (or soul) into the dark version of NY. Saga sends her MIND into her mind place but is PHYSICALLY in the town
4:34 I don’t get scared easily so cheap and random jump scares piss me off and annoy me more than they scare me, but this game implemented the most genius jump scares I’ve ever seen in any medium of horror entertainment be it game or movie.

I liked how the overlap visions are in different order in the two campaigns. Alan goes to the hotel and sends the record before he sends the deer skull, but saga receives the deer skull before she gets the record
27:24 yeah but did you know that Orlando Bloom broke a couple of ribs while doing a horse riding scene? Or that Sean Austin cut his foot when walking in the river in the first movie? Or that Gimli's actor was having allergic reactions to his makeup and was often drooling from his nose?
Or that Christopher Lee knows what it like to be stabbed in the back or that a guy lost his finger prints making chain mail for three years or or that Viggo went everywhere with his sword and got the cops called on him!!

Or that Mary Elizabeth McGlynn sustained a knee injury when a horse fell ontop of her during the filming of season 1 of "Xena Warrior Princess". The injury was so severe that she was forced to give up her acting career.
Baldur's release was really unlucky for Remedy, because Alan deserves this title just as much in many aspects, while even more in some.
As much as I love BG3's ost, Herald of Darkness mission is one of the best and most creative things Ive seen in gaming

The Hiss doesn't talk about Mr. Door, Dylan does. He had a dream about him.

loved it, especially the bit about the jump scares being diagetic and serving a purpose. so glad i'm not the only one talking about that lol. great video! and while some of this may actually be in part 2, i still want to add some talking points because i haven't been able to stop thinking about this game:
6:00 alan cannot create something from nothing, merely guide or suggest, and he also cannot override free will in that he can't make a person do something they would never otherwise do (you see this when the darkness failed to take over the koskelas). alex casey existed before the books, alan had visions of him before AW1 and he just thought they were inspiration. this is said both in this game and the AWE expansion of control. while juiced up in the DP, he may have more influence than usual, but the rules still apply.

11:56 i interpret that hesitation from rose almost like she's being fed lines, like the story is literally being changed as she speaks. she never hesitates the entire rest of the conversation, even being horrifically cavalier about such a topic but in that first instance, it's like she's not entirely sure of what words are going to come out of her mouth. i love rose so much

25:34 currently my favorite AWESOME fact about the shades: they are ALL alan. everything they say is taken from alan's "drowning" video, matthew porretta voiced them all again for the shades, and supposedly his face is under all the distortion (i think i glimpsed it myself once or twice.) they are all either direct manifestations of his thoughts OR they're past, failed echoes of alan from previous loops. that's just so COOL! the detail! i still dont see too many people talking about this and you didnt mention it and NO WAY would you not include it as a win if you knew about it lol

36:05 i don't think they are trying to summon him only because they're proven to not actually know how the dark place works, only how to take out taken, and even then they don't seem to realize you don't actually need to clicker to kill them lol. i guess it's possible they would try to summon him, i'm just not convinced that they knew art could do that.
Alan wake 2 was easily game of the year for 2023 for me.
It took risks with its story and style. It really feels like this and control are Remedy coming into their own style of game.
For Alan wake 2, it really just made me appreciate Remedy for creating the game they wanted. Now crossing my fingers we get a photo mode in a future update.
Curious how much you looked at the signs in Alan’s part of the story. Most seemed like manuscript pages from the first game, but then there was one I found talking about a manuscript he wrote for night springs specifically mentioning champion of light and herald of darkness. Has been really making me question everything about the game.
The signs also include Manuscripts from Alan Wake's American Nightmare. The manuscript pages in that game refer to Alan as The Champion of Light and Mr Scratch as The Herald of Darkness
Nightless night is kinda the opposite of endless night. But I think the song is from the viewpoint of a Scratch so it makes sense to make it seem like terrifying thing

Saga is such a good addition to the game. The contrast between the Midwest wilderness and dark New York is soo great and her story is not over yet. (I still think that Mr Door/Hatch is her father - and after watching a replay of Control and the amount of "Door" references from the Board - we are not done with this story). Can't wait for Control 2
First win should be the fact that this game exists and then the title card, so COOL
AW2 is my favorite 2023 game by far and that's coming from someone who LOVES the RE4 and Dead Space remakes. The game is pure genius on a storytelling and artistic level but it's not something everyone can appreciate, much like Death Stranding.

Well, either that, or it's pretty much a James Bond situation, where Alan heard about a cop named Alex Casey and started writing about him, much like how the autor of James Bond actually asked a man named James Bond if he could use his name in his movies.
Edit: Another thing that may be worth pointing out is that, Alan might not have been messing with reality for as long as you think, because, well, Casey is still alive. It's stated time and time again in the original Alan Wake that Alan killed off Casey in his final book, the Sudden Stop. If Alan was really writing his books and rewriting reality for longer than it seemed, why is Casey still drinking coffee with Saga?

While that is true, we must also remember that Alan is the only character (other than Zane) that knows how the Dark Place works, it wouldn't make sense, storytelling wise, to have him spill out so much stuff like this and don't have anything in the game to properly debunk him, which means that info is most likely correct. You know the Hollywood rule "if there's no body, the character isn't dead"? This is kind of an extension to it, "if there's no debunk, the information is factual."

Fun Fact, Tim Breaker is ONE letter away from being Time Breaker, a nod to Ashmore's role in Quantum Break (Also, just Mr. Door is take on Mr. Hatch, and during dialogue with breaker he mentions dreams, those dreams he described, along with his notes about Polyhedrons are reminiscent of Quantum Break)

I tied the the polyhedrons to Control since that was a major symbol throughout the game as well as Breakers whiteboard mentioning Jesse who would have been the director of the FBC during Alan Wake 2 since there was various mentions of communications being lost with headquarters.

Although personally im not a big fan of Epic exclusive but Alan Wake 2 is pretty damn good especially with all the actors, Poets of the Fall's songs coming back and of course Ahti. Definetly did not expect to meet Ahti in Alan Wake 2. Remedy couldnt choose better cast for this. I hope they continue with these stories and dont fall for woke agenda that is rampaging through pretty much everything these days.
