I rode the Southern Crescent in the summer of 1969 and I'm fairly certain it was pulled by two E-8s. A fond memory, to be sure. This model looks great.
That is awful pretty. I put the 1976 Bicentennial stickers on my 4 N scale SR E8s. I also run the Piedmont with two FP7s that started off as Bachman NS office Car Special "Stallion" locos. They look almost as bad as the ones I saw every day in West Springfield, VA in 1975 and 1976, at least until Thanksgiving Weekend. I hunted down 3 of the remaining E8s last summer in Duluth GA (6901) Chattanooga (6914) and South Appalachian Railroad Museum in Oak Ridge, TN (6913). That was a great weekend. Maybe some day 6900 will lead her 3 sisters and lead a proper "Southern Crescent" from Atlanta to DC again. Scott
I got these as well. Excited to get a set replicating the 1970s Crescent. The ditch lights are accurate for the modern version as they pull excursions on the main line and ditch lights are required. The 1970s E8s did not have ditch lights. The cars have blackened side skirts to mimic skirtless sides as on the 1970s passenger cars and are a nice compromise since the tooling has skirts. Hoping the cars ship soon.
Very nice. That would look perfect pulling my AMT Southern Crescent cars. I currently use a Lionel 2356 F3 or an MTH Southern Ps-4 Pacific. An excellent video, as always.
Great video and layout, Caleb!!! My Dad worked for the HPT&D RR for 42 years and was also a lifelong Lionel and American Flyer fan. He passed several years ago and most of his collection has been sold but some of his Southern RR memorabilia is still here if you might be interested. I'm in Thomasville. Next time you are in town at Mikes etc, let me know and I will bring it to let you check it out. Let me know how to get my phone number to you.
Dude, thank you for this video!!! I just ordered mine from Jeff at The Train Loft and I'm so excited to get it! You are 100% responsible for me even knowing this existed😂😂 I have been looking/hoping for a 6900 for the longest time. Jeff is so nice and am looking forward to doing business with him again. I owe you. Thanks, again!
That is a truly stunning E8!! The Southern paint scheme really pops too! What an awesome addition to your collection and I’m sure you’ll enjoy running her for years and years!
