I've had my J7+ a little over 2 months...I've followed all the maintenance instructions to the letter and had no problems until today. I've spent the last hour cleaning, cursing, and troubleshooting until I came across your video. I DO NOT HAVE WORDS ADEQUATE ENOUGH TO THANK YOU! Zoidberg is completely back to normal. 😁🙏🏻
Really appreciate this video; like many others, I never thought to remove the yellow plug at the end of the rollers. You've done your fellow Roomba devotees a solid.
Thank you for this video. Have had our Roomba for a couple of years and never knew that those yellow ends came off. I was frustrated because after only a minute or two I got the same message and I thought I had already cleaned the extractors. Little did I know that the ends needed to be removed to clean the inside. I watched several other videos and none of them showed removing those end caps to clean the shaft behind, Good work and thanks again.
First, Good pointer on what to look for. Second, The problem with mine is the bearing itself is bad, and you will find this on third party rollers from Amazon, some are good some are horrible. Just try turning the yellow caps by hand they should literally spin completely freely with no hangups or force required. I popped the caps off and pack them with some lithium grease and they were both fully functional then. Because the Roomba is constantly monitoring the required torque to the debris extractors, it will stop at the slightest increased power requirement from the rollers.
Saved the life of my roomba! Thank you for sharing this fix. So frustrating having it shut down every couple of minutes. You saved a life :) of a machine!
THANK YOU! We were going crazy with our Roomba i4. I just deep cleaned it yesterday and then today it was doing the "Clear debris extractor" every 2 minutes. I just followed your tips and pulled out a TON of tightly wound hair. Not it's running like a champ again, and I owe it all to you. THANK YOU AGAIN!
I just took apart my roomba, I mean REALLY TOOK IT APART. I then came across your video and looked at those thingies and one isn't spinning freely. So I probably did all that work for nothing, just to find out, it's "just" gunk inside that tube. 😂 I hope I can get my roomba back together, lol. Thanks for sharing!!!!
My irobot started having this issue today and there was something stuck at the beginning but then it did it again and we notice there was a lot of hair in the side of the rollers (had no idea that came off) so we thought that was it. Started again so I searched and your video popped up and solved the issue! Thank you so much!!!
This is helpful- thanks. The bearings seized up on one of the rollers, so I replaced it. It was good to know what the yellow 'cap' is though, as that's what seized up (in a Roomba 980)!
Great solution and explanation! The crud (cat hair) was actually wrapped around the metal shaft inside the yellow plastic end bearing, and stopping the brush from rotating at all.
OMG!! THANK Y0U! I clean the ends of the rollers every time I empty the trash bin, but never thought to remove the yellow cap. Mine just started doing the same error after 60 seconds. You wouldn't believe the amount of hair I pulled out of the cap alone, plus the roller. ALSO, I noticed my garbage symbol has now quit flashing even though it was empty. Must be the signal it's time to clean extractors!
I want to thank you sooo much for having posted this video.👍🏻 I was racking my brain trying to make my e5 work, it kept on giving me the same message. With your help I was able to solve the issue.
I'm glad this helped! I couldn't figure it out either. The brushes felt like they required a good amount of effort to turn by hand, but I thought it may have been by design and overlooked it!
Thank you for your amazing video. There’s was so much hair I couldn’t believe it, you save me some money because I was buying new rollers. Thank you thank you 🙏🏻
If you're referring to how I was rotating the end caps, that was to reduce the force required pulling them off outward by hand as they were packed so tightly. Thank you for letting me know it pulls out of the roller though, will be useful for next time.
I discovered that one of the cleaning brushes has a steel cylinder that must freely rotate. This cylinder is what the yellow end presses on. If that cylinder can't rotate, then the robot is screwed. I put a pair of pliers on it, got it to rotate and eventually come right off. Sprayed lubricant in there and all is well.
Just fyi-- that entire bearing assembly slides out. Just squeeze it out. No tweezers needed! The bearing is attached to a plastic dowel that is about 2 inches long and that dowel slides into the roller.
In my case I didn't get the error #2 (980 model) until I put the BRAND NEW rollers in. Then I get the error #2 after 3-5 min run time. Putting the OLD rollers back in it runs fine. However the old rollers are worn down a bit, so I'd like to use the new ones. I did check the alignment of the new rollers, they spin fine. All is good. Any thoughts?
With the old rollers installed, if you spin the rollers manually, and compare it to when the new rollers are installed, are the new rollers harder to move? This is typically caused by the roomba being unable to spin them with minimal effort.
Depends on the environment, if there's a lot of long hair or pets, possibly once every year before it becomes a problem. I would say it's a good idea to check it every 6 months though at least.

Thank you so much for posting this! You saved me a ton of time and headache. I would have never thought to take off the end of the extractors.

You're a hero! For hours we've been trying to fix that damn issue. Anywhere no clues... but thanks to you, our Roomba Combo works like a charm again!
Dude! If this is the issue I owe you a beer!! I’m off to try, thank you so much.
big thanks, i was stuck but thanks to your video i now know about the extra cleaning in the rollers. My Roomba is back to her duties.
You saved the day man. My wife was about to go crazy until I found this video

Do you mean like so much that like you went past the motherboard
Thankyou for posting this. I have been going nuts. The hair had fused so hard to one of the axles that I’m pretty sure it was becoming Borg.

I was having the exact same issue. Followed your directions and now it works like it used to! Thanks!!
This also explains why it has been running in carpet mode while on a wood floor. Thanks!

i saw this same video from irobot themselves, but never said anything about the error. this video however, explains a lot more.
This one saved my roomba. As you said, I did not know one had to clean even there
Thanks so much, my Roomba finally works. I never knew that you can remove those caps. It is a bad design to let debris goes in. They need to fix this.
Thank you for your amazing video. There’s was so much hair I couldn’t believe it, you save me some money because I was buying new rollers. Thank you thank you 🙏🏻
Can't thank you enough! I had wrongly concluded that I need to buy a new one now!
Thank you so much for this!!! Dobby the Roomba is back in action
Seriously you are a lifesaver!!! i have been having these issues for months !!!
Worked for me too!! Much appreciated for this video and a great solution! Should be in the Roomba manual.
Thank you my man. This was giving me a frigging headache.
Fantastic dude, huge help, I was going crazy trying to work this out.
Thank you! Your video was helpful and as a result we have a clean floor again.
Extraction error in mine was underneath the rollers. A small star Christmas decoration, plus the little guide roller on the front of the machine.
The black spindle the yellow endcap is fitted (not screwed on) pulls out of the roller (extractor) so you can clean almost the entire end.
If you're referring to how I was rotating the end caps, that was to reduce the force required pulling them off outward by hand as they were packed so tightly. Thank you for letting me know it pulls out of the roller though, will be useful for next time.
Thanks for the tip! That fixed my roomba's problem!
THANK YOU!!! Things been driving me nuts! But I didn't know those came off.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for posing this!!!!!
Thank you. This sorted out my problems. Great work!
Thanks so much for posting this. I was having the same problem. I’m going to try this gem of info!
Thank you! I was thinking it was the whirly brushes that needed cleaning and I cleaned them and it was still erroring! I will try this next!
You literally saved me a couple of hundred dollars !!! Thanks so much for sharing !!!
You are the man!!!! Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you!!! Your video saved us from throwing roomba out lol.
Thank you so much.
your video is helpful to me to fix roomba issue.
Thank you so much again!!!!

Thank you. This video helped me fix my roomba error 2 message. 😊
Thank you, exactly what I needed!
Thank you! Luckily this hasn't been doing this too long but I understand everyone frustration. Thank you!
Well done! Thank you for this.
That worked! Saved Roomba from the trash
Thank you, this saved my day!
Thanks for this great serwis!!!!!👍👍👍
Thanks for the video, was my problem exactly!
Very helpful, thanks for making the video
It sucks because I am using new brushes and it still gives me this error. SMH so annoying
Yeah, same here. Finally about to just throw this thing away after taking the entire body apart, and cleaning everything, new rollers, still jacked
Thank you! This was driving me nuts. You’re the man lol 👍
Thank you so much for this had no idea about that part and you just solved my problem.
Wow I had so much hair in there, it’s disgusting!! Thanks for posting this video
Any chance we will ever see the avp mod again
loved your video, problem is I replaced new brushes.guess what error 2 again.
Thank you!!! I thought my Roomba was broken.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Just fyi-- that entire bearing assembly slides out. Just squeeze it out. No tweezers needed! The bearing is attached to a plastic dowel that is about 2 inches long and that dowel slides into the roller.
That's good to know, thank you. I figured it was attached all the way through and didn't want to damage anything.
Thank you! just saved me buying a new ( different brand) robot :)
So helpful- thank you
Thank you! I was going mad!
Saved my sanity!

Possibly the arm that holds the rollers in is dirty or grime-y or somehow not letting the rollers roll freely
You’re awesome! Thank you so much
DANG!!! Thank you!
mine keeps showing error 26
How often do you have to do this?
Depends on the environment, if there's a lot of long hair or pets, possibly once every year before it becomes a problem. I would say it's a good idea to check it every 6 months though at least.
@@ri5ux435 thanks!
I suggest once a week (I have pets and long hair)
You the man,
anyone know how to fix the same problem but for the 620?
Thanks! that did the trick
Mine keeps doing this after I just put new extractors in
just push the rubber end and the cap will pop off on rollers
You rock!
Thanks for help :)
Brilliant!
My Roomba has no error code goes on and shuts off in 5 seconds...
Sounds like it needs a new battery.
Here's a quick add on video to removing the bearing assembly ua-cam.com/video/tgC1_2evZZ4/v-deo.html
Thank you so much
Thanks for error 2
THANK YOU!!!
My Roomba does not picking debris anymore :(
