Almost 4 years later, your video is still helping people! I was surprised at how much hair was being hidden by the yellow end caps. You solved my issue. Thank you!
Hooray! Now listening to the sweet sound of our 880 happily cleaning the floors, after months of going Roomba-less and multiple attempts to fix. This was exactly the problem. You rock!!! Thank you so much!
7 years after making this video, you’re still helping Roomba owners. Thanks so much for this video! It was exactly the solution I needed to get the brush cage error solved!
You are THE man! I’ve been struggling with mine and was at the point where I had given up and was going to buy a new set of brushes. Same thing would of eventually happened to those! I performed the same repair to mine, found an INSANE amount of hair, removed it all, and now she’s back to rolling around the joint no problem! I am much appreciative for the information!
I’ve had my Rumba for about 6 hrs and I was frequently cleaning rollers, brush and wheels; but never knew about removing and cleaning the yellow caps! Omg! The hair that was there! Thank you so much! I’m glad your video was the 1st one to pop up when I started my search. Quick & easy.
I had this problem with my 880. the bearing was jammed solid and wouldn't let go of the shaft. if you pull on it hard enough, either the yellow cap will come off the shaft, or it will pull the shaft and it's mount out of the roller. if it does that, it just slides right back into place after you've cleaned it out.
One year ago, I had this problem and used your video to solve it. Today, I had the same problem and thought I could fix it without being reminded of the secret. But no such luck! So, for the second time in two years, thanks for your super helpful video!
I just finished putting back together my Roomba 960 after completely disassembling the thing, trying to figure out why it won't run for more than about 90 seconds without the dreaded "Error 2" crap. Thanks to your video, I found out I haven't been cleaning that side of the brushes since I bought the thing three years ago. One of the brass collars was completely stuck on the shaft. No wonder it wouldn't work. Your video was exactly what I needed. Thanks very much
I am so thankful for this video!! I was beginning to think I needed to buy a new Roomba when my typical cleaning procedures for were not helping! You're the best!!
MY MAN! You just saved me what would have been a HUGE headache. Here I was thinking that I had been doing a thorough job cleaning my Roomba when, all this time, there were so many other little hidden spots that needed cleaning out. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video for the rest of us!
Thanks for posting this, you saved me $45 on new brushes. I didn’t realize the yellow end caps came off. Once I pulled them off, I found a ton of hair packed inside. My Roomba 960 ran just fine with no Error 2 warnings after cleaning that area out.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I have searched months to figure out why my roomba will only run for 10-15 minutes and stop with this error. I had done EVERYTHING except this. I never knew they came off. You are AWESOME! Thank you for sharing! Saved me from having to service my roomba!
Thanks for the tip. I bought my Roomba 545 at least 12 years ago at Sams-club, only had to change to high capacity battery due to another person in the house having a tendency to let Roomba run down without putting her back on the charger if for some reason she lost her way back to her docking station. Never had to clean the brush shaft ends. But recently I kept getting the clean brush-cage message after a short run time. This tip revealed a massive build up of hair that definitely needed to be removed. I will add this detail to by brush cleaning maintenance from now on. Tip, if the large brush gets hard to reinstall there is hair on the shaft that needs to be removed. Thanks again for the useful tip.
That was GREAT advice.....after cleaning out MUCH more hair, that brass bushing on mine was stuck to the shaft and my husband said he had to gently hammer that off the shaft then he wet sanded the shaft down lightly added little lube and put the brass bushing back into the yellow cap along with putting the shaft back into the end of the roller. Made sure all spun freely and put the rollers back into the machine. NO MORE ERROR TYVM for taking the time to share and do this video.
Oh my Goodness am I happy I found your video! I’ve been trying to get rid of that error and get my Roomba to work for a long time. Even took off the wheel and cleaned it. No other video or even the Roomba website mentioned removing the yellow end cap. That 30 seconds cleaning did it! Now it runs and cleans perfectly again. I can’t thank you enough! You’re a good man for posting this to help others like me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Perfect! That did the trick. I didn't realize so much hair packed up under the yellow cap. As soon as I took that apart and cleaned out every speck of dirt and hair, it runs perfectly again. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this.
Finally a man who knows his stuff! I appreciate you sharing the results of your efforts with those of us less wise in the ways of repair. This worked like a charm to get our roomba back in service! Thank you.
Thanks man! My Roomba 865 was stuck in that error 2. Fortunately I found your video. The official roomba site does not explain this well enough. There are no instructions for this kind of model.
Thank you. You saved my Roomba. I never would have disassembled it to that point to find the problem. Tons of hair gumming up that brass part so it wasn't spinning, just like you showed. Back in business!
That was exactly what was wrong with my Roomba. I had cleaned and cleaned the brushes and everything else I could reach to no avail. Your solution did the trick and your description was clear. Thank you a million times over!
We were having the exact same problem, been working on it for days, but nothing seemed to work. We even removed the yellow ends and cleaned, but didn't realize they could come off of the post! When I did that, found a ton of hair wrapped around it. But now after cleaning that out, the rollers are rotating freely and roomba "robo" is working great! We were about to buy new rollers/brushes as well or just throw the whole thing out and get a new one! You saved us a ton of $$$$. Thank you so much!
Been trying to fix mine for 4 DAYS! I had taken it apart and didn’t even realize that little piece is supposed to stay in the yellow bracket. THANK YOU!!
Bravo! I never every knew those end caps came off. I diligently cleaned the other end regularly. Thanks for filming this over 5 years ago; yours was the 1st UA-cam vid to come up when I type in the Roomba error message, and my problem is fixed. Appreciate it. .
THANK YOU!! Though I clean the brushes regularly, I never would have thought to take it that step further - there is a whole lot of yuck in there!! And you helped me get it out and clear the error code. Thanks for taking the time to make and post this easy to follow and thorough explanation.
Thank you so much! Stumbled upon your video when I was watching another one on how to clean the roomba and yours did the trick!!! Thank you for saving me so much time and ... frustration! Me, my floors and my 95 lb hairy retriever thank you!
Sir, thank you so much for this video. After almost a year and almost giving up on my Roomba because of the clean brush etc., error, my Roomba now works like it should.
Hey man, solid! This definitely was the problem with my girlfriend's Roomba. Removing hair and debris from the brass bearing 100% fixed the problem--it's now working great. People like you are why the internet is so useful!
Absolutely awesome!!! This fixed my Roomba as well and I was truly impressed with the amount of hair that we removed from the inside of those spinning collectors.
Your solution fixed my Error code 2 on my 980. As others have noted, nowhere except your video diagnosed the problem and provided clear instruction on how to fix it. You Rock - Thank you very much!!!! Bruce
Had spent *hours* on hold with roomba customer service trying to get to the bottom of this. Your solution was perfect in three minutes. Tell me how to send you a bottle of wine!!
Thank you so much for sharing! I had this error 2 today for the first time and no clue how to fix it until I saw your video. Appreciate it and you taking your time for helping others! Really kind of you!
You are a lifesaver! I too had not removed the yellow ends and when I did, my dark gray one also had the brass nut stuck on the roller. I had to use pliers and then found a large ring of golden retriever hair...I used WD 40 and it spins beautifully now. Thank you for saving my sanity, I never would have thought of any of this!
that did it! I thought it was broken. I'd cleaned everywhere including beneath the little yellow dealies, but didn't realize the copper part wasn't supposed to be stuck to the pin. thanks!
Thank you so much! I had totally dissembled my 880, cleaning it thoroughly according to roomba solutions from website with no success. I was able to detach the yellow cap but the metal parts were attached to a plastic part inside the tube. I had to separate the two small metal parts from the yellow cap on the gray roller - (with pliers, very tight). WD 40'd all three things (yellow cap and 2 metal parts) and yahooooooo!!! Walle (our Roomba) is working hard again. Thanks again.
THANKS! You saved me from returning my unit! I tried all kinds of other instructions and videos but none described what you did, which WAS THE FIX!!!! The mfg should put your video at their website! Thanks for taking the time to present this video!
Exactly the same issue with my 980. Has no idea this was the issue and was about to send it for service. Just saved me a bunch of time and money. Thanks very much! 👍🏼
Every other video recommends opening and cleaning the gear box, which did stop the 'clicking' noise on my 500 series. But I was still getting the error even after doing that. No one else ever recommends taking those end caps off. Thanks so much for the tip, mine is running perfectly now.
Thank you so much for this video. I spent an hour taking those rollers out and cleaning, putting them back in, start my roomba only to have it work for about 5 minutes and then stop and give me the error 2 message again. I watched your video and had the problem fixed in 5 minutes.
I am so happy I found your video. Thank you for posting. I got the brass piece pulled off, cleaned it and the post inside and out with a facial tissue and WD40. That worked on my 860!
Awesome, This fixed it. I had cleaned the extractors but still got the code. Used pliers to pop off that bearing as it was not freely spinning. Crazy that gunk had made it up into there and seized up the bearing. Cleaned, re-greased, good to go!
You are awesome! Nobody else could fix my Roomba for me! It was all about that little brass sleeve, I cleaned everything but that! Hey internet, this guy is the only one who knows what he's talking about..
I had exactly the same problem, I just didn't know what the correct place for the brass sheath was. Thank you so much for sharing this - it really helped me out!
Thank you SOOOOO much!!! Finally got my Roomba working again! The key was getting that little copper sleeve off & moving freely again! This is the ONLY video that mentions that! So glad to not be ordering a new set of brushes!
Thanks for the video. Had no idea the ends came off the rollers. Yours is the only one I found that mentioned the brass piece. It had got stuck on the roller rod and would not turn. Removed and found hair beneath. Thanks again.
Thank you very much! I thought I had the brush cage cleaned but it kept giving me the Error 2 message. Your video perfectly (and succinctly!) showed me what needed to be done.
Yep! Exellent! So simple that I missed the problem! (Always look underneath!!) lol! Thank you for the time and making of this video (No Roomba's were harmed!) - Ken in Hawaii - Jan 2018
Dude you are a happy wife saver. I took it all apart thought I was great then go same error. Saw your video and fixed it in less than a minute. You are awesome
First video in my search was the last one I needed. Good work and thanks. My next step before sending in for service was to just buy new brushes, but that still saved me $29 plus tax and all.
You are the bomb!! That you so much for taking time out of your day to make and post this video. This was exactly the problem with mine. In fact, on mine the little brass piece was so tightly stuck on the metal post that I have no idea how it has even been running. Thanks again!
Wow you are a savior. All other suggestions on a Google search wouldn't cure the issue and I was not going to tear the unit apart. Found one rollers end cap was plugged full of pet hair and wasn't moving. Cleaned it and voila no more error. Very poor engineering on roombas part imo and so glad I found your vid. Thanks!
Amazing, this was exactly what was wrong with my 960! Spent the last several days trying to figure it out and after cleaning everything I had nearly given up. Thanks for sharing this video!!
Thank you so much!!! This is exactly what was going on with mine. I was ready to take the whole robot apart before I ran across your video. Thank God I didn’t follow the instructions on the first video I watched. Thank you for taking the time to make this.
Thank you so so much for posting this!! This has been my problem with my Roomba. Thank you for this helpful video. You saved me from sending it for service!!
Thank you so much!!! Your video was the first I found, and it was the answer!!! Couldn't believe the hair I found wrapped around those things!! We have a long haired cat and her fur is like cotton!! Roomba is zipping around like crazy now. Thanks again!!
I had exactly the same problem and you have the right solution for this. It worked a treat for me and my Roomba 880 is back doing the good work for me as it should. Thanks so much for sharing! It is interesting that the it affects the black roller for everyone here and not the light coloured one. Roomba engineers take note... something to improve upon, may be the way it collects dirt.... may be a design issue with the black roller... room for improvement in design!
Thank you so much! We have been struggling with this for a while and have tried everything to clean our roomba, except this trick with the stuck end cap. Brilliant!
Thank you so much! I did not know that the yellow caps came off! So much hair and fur in there! Rosie is happy and cleaning to her little robot heart's content! You totally rock!
Thanks so much for sharing. I have a Roomba 960 and had the same problem. I put new rollers on and I still kept getting error 2. Turns out one of the rollers wasn't turning freely. Did as you advised and my Freddie is back to work. Thanks for your help.
Thank you so much! It solved my problem. I, too, spent a long time trying to figure it out. I read the manual, but it wasn't helpful. I then went on to the iRobot support website which said that if you clean the brushes and still get the error message, then you need to call iRobot to purchase new parts. That is ridiculous because my iRobot is brand new. I was so frustrated that I was thinking about returning it tomorrow. You saved my iRobot! Thank you!!!
Awesome video! Straight to the point and exactly what was wrong with my Ruby. Had a heck of a time getting the brass piece off the metal stem. Had to use pliers to pry it off. Once off, cleaned it up, a little WD40 and she's running like new!!
So happy your video came up in my search - thank you so much, I had no idea about the inside of the rollers, and I had to use pliers on the light colored roller, as well as the end cap having hair stuck in it. Saved the day! Thanks again!
DUDE!! You saved me ! Totally worked and I was wondering why one of the copper ends came off and one didn’t . I cleaned it and that fixed the problem straight away! Thanks!!
Almost 4 years later, your video is still helping people! I was surprised at how much hair was being hidden by the yellow end caps. You solved my issue. Thank you!
I searched over the internet and you are the only one who has the real answer to my problem! Thank you!

Good stuff. I have the 870 and didn't realize the yellow end caps come off
hi.. i have the 870 as well.. however i am unable to remove the yellow end cap :( would you be able to guide me how to open it
I had this problem with my 880. the bearing was jammed solid and wouldn't let go of the shaft. if you pull on it hard enough, either the yellow cap will come off the shaft, or it will pull the shaft and it's mount out of the roller. if it does that, it just slides right back into place after you've cleaned it out.
ritznjuz grab the rubber and and slide it down. Hold onto the other end and twist the yellow part.

Sir, thank you so much for this video. After almost a year and almost giving up on my Roomba because of the clean brush etc., error, my Roomba now works like it should.

Perfect fix! I had over looked cleaning under the yellow ends!
Thanks my man, absolutely spot on to fix it for us, greatly appreciate. Turns out the culprit was not the dogs’ hair, but my wife’s!

I had given up on this thing for a few months and figured id give one more try. With your video it took me 5 minutes to fix! Thank you!

The pliers trick adds a small amount on Knurling to the external surface of the bushing. helps the fit! Great Tip!
This was the perfect fix. The brass bearing was indeed dislodged and caused my repeated "clean brush cage" warning. Thanks Vida!
I have tried your fixing on a Rooba 900 and you saved my day and 30 euros to buy new brushes.
Many thanks to you and WD40 :)
Well done. My brass piece was stuck.
I would have ended up taking the whole thing apart. Thank you
I am so happy I found your video.
After 3 attempts to address the error I found your video. I had the same issue but not anymore.
Thank you for posting this video.
I had exactly the same problem, I just didn't know what the correct place for the brass sheath was. Thank you so much for sharing this - it really helped me out!
This video helped me when the customer service rep at Roomba could not so thank you! Problem fixed. The brass piece was stuck just like yours was.
It is helping 8 years later, I have an old roomba haha, thank you!
Thank you very much! I thought I had the brush cage cleaned but it kept giving me the Error 2 message. Your video perfectly (and succinctly!) showed me what needed to be done.
You saved me from sending mine in for service! Thanks
Thanks for the response Jack! Glad it helped you
Yep! Exellent! So simple that I missed the problem! (Always look underneath!!) lol! Thank you for the time and making of this video (No Roomba's were harmed!) - Ken in Hawaii - Jan 2018
Mine is still giving the error and I even changed my rollers to new ones. But thank you for the video. Easy to understand.
Fixed my roomba! Thank you
Dude you are a happy wife saver. I took it all apart thought I was great then go same error. Saw your video and fixed it in less than a minute. You are awesome
OMG! We've been dealing with this for WEEKS!! You've saved my Roomba and Sanity!!!
First video in my search was the last one I needed. Good work and thanks. My next step before sending in for service was to just buy new brushes, but that still saved me $29 plus tax and all.
Thanks!!! I did the same thing as you; I kept cleaning and just cannot work out how much and where else to clean. You are a champ.
Thank goodness! The brass nut is what was stopping mine from rotating. I had no idea those yellow caps came off. Saved me a ton of money!
This was exactly the issue my Roomba was having. Thank you so much for making this video and helping me out!
Thank you so so much for posting this!! This has been my problem with my Roomba. Thank you for this helpful video. You saved me from sending it for service!!
This was perfect! Had no idea those end caps came off and was shocked how plugged up they were. Thank you!
Thanks a lot for posting man. After multiple attempts I was ready to donate and my gf kept pushing. Your video was the solution for my problem.
Life saver! I must have cleaned mine every 2 minutes and then I found your video!
I have a 500 series but this was exactly the issue with mine. After I did the fix you showed it ran flawlessly today. Thank you!
Glad it helped you! Thanks for the response
You are THE MAN!!! This issue was driving me crazy and I never thought to pull the yellow caps off. This did the trick, thanks for posting this.
I havent been able to use my 980 for months.... I think you just solved my issue. Thank you so much!!!!!
3 years later and this video is still slaving problems, thanks.
Thank you so much! You saved me hours of aggravation and money. Did what you showed and fixed the problem! Excellent video and solution.
That was so helpful. I had removed yellow caps and thoroughly cleaned both but did not notice that the little metal bolt was stuck. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Thanks!!!! Really helpful.I had exactly the same problem and, for the life of me, couldn’t figure out what I was missing.
Thank you for sharing. I was having the exact problem on my 880. This worked perfectly!
Thanks so much for sharing. I have a Roomba 960 and had the same problem. I put new rollers on and I still kept getting error 2. Turns out one of the rollers wasn't turning freely. Did as you advised and my Freddie is back to work. Thanks for your help.
Thanks for the video! I had checked the brushes many times. Never realized the yellow part could be removed. One of the brushes was full of hair.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video! It was the EXACT issue I was having and I probably never would've figured it out w/o your video.
Thank you! Fixed my Roomba because of this video. Had no idea the yellow things were removable.
Thank you! This made my Roomba 866 super delighted and now it's working perfectly again!! 😁 Greetings from Sweden!
Thanks!!
This was the only video that showed a quick and true fix. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much!! People like you are what everyone in society should strive towards
