    I think this is a great pattern stitch for a cowl...nice and stretchy to pass over the head. Also, it's dense enough to keep the neck warm against cold wind. BTW...when making cowls, I usually work into the full stitch at the end of the row, not just the back stitch...it helps to keep the edges neat. Thanks for another great idea.🤗

      True, ideal for a cowl! Thank you for that tip, that would definitely work well for the edges!

    The wrong side is pretty. I would be happy to use this ribbing in a reversible project, or to use the wrong side as the right side for a decorative ribbing. Thank you for demonstrating this stitch. You tips will come in handy.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  8 місяців тому

      Yes, I'm sure it could be used that way too! The wrong side isn't bad-looking, just not so clearly ribbing.

    Thanks for including the ‘mistake stitch’ that was hiding in the ribbing. It is my reality! Sometimes I can not accept frogging immediately, but have to wait a couple of days when I am not longer attached to the time I just put into the work. Better to frog late, then never😅

      I'm the same way! If it's for myself, I'll probably decide not to frog. If It's for someone else, I will! Gotta be perfect 😉 right!?

    Thank you. I Don't crochet garments because of the way ribbing looks. This stitch cures that problem. How do you know how many stitches to use. Say your garment starts with 100 stitches. How many stitches would you need for the ribbing to stretch to 100 stitch length?

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  8 місяців тому +1

      The ribbing and the garment rows point in different directions, for the ribbing the amount of stitches creates the height of the ribbing. So you need to think of how many rows of ribbing you need before starting the main part of the garment. That will depend on how much you want the ribbing to pull the main part of the garment. I'm showing one way to pick the stitches on the video, so that there is two in between each knit-look row. With that amount the part that starts from the ribbing will be clearly wider than the ribbed part. If you don't need that, you could pick only one stitch between the knit-look rows, or alternate between picking one or two. For something like this it is worth making a good size gauge swatch, more than the usual 10 cm.

    A pattern I’m following right now calls this the “yarn over slip stitch” except it repeats for every row. It is nice to see your version. Thank you for sharing.

    • @TuulaMaaria
      @TuulaMaaria  7 місяців тому +1

      UA-cam always skips showing all comments, only saw this one now! There are probably various names for this, it doesn't really look like a real stitch at all, sort of a mixture 😊

    Another great tutorial! I really like the looks of it. I find it really awkward to add knit ribbing to crochet and I have always ended up frogging any attempt of it. So I will definitely try this out. I second your opinion on it looking really cool with chunky wool, the pink swatch you showed would look really cool on a simple beanie or a scarf/cowl! :)

    By the way, do you have written instructions for the bird ornament? I am trying to write them for a friend, but would love it if I didn't have to! Many thanks.

      Yes, I know many people who do that. There's extra work in the joining then but the ribbing can be stretchier when knitted.
