    Excellent! This is a similar principle to doing a stretchy bind off in knitting. Genius tip for Tunisian crochet! Thanks. I’ve been concerned about making beanies that don’t stretch if I ever were to make one in Tunisian crochet. This should definitely help with that.

      (a bit late but) You could make the beanies / toques sideways so the rows go from forehead to crown instead of sideways / around?

    Thank you for this tutorial ! What tunisian crochet stitch would you recommend to use when making leg warmers and should i use this extend stitch with it ? Thank you so much for your time ! Happy crocheting ❣️

    • @ModeBespoke
      @ModeBespoke  Рік тому

      For the extended return pass, depends on how crochet it. If your initial chain is the length of the leg warmer (how far up you leg you want it), then the ERP is not necessary as most stitches stretch vertically. That’s what I’d do, as opposed to making the intitial chain the width of the leg warmer.
      🤔 maybe the Gentleman’s Stitch, the Chain Link Stitch, Finishline Stitch, or the Ribbed Stitch.

    Do you have any tips for casting on a stretchier foundation to go with this technique?

    • @ModeBespoke
      @ModeBespoke  3 роки тому +2

      Yes! Use a chainless foundation. Instead of casting on horizontally (making a chain the width of your project), make a vertical foundation (make a short chain and add rows to reach the measurement you need.
      To do this: chain 3. Skip the first chain, then cast onto the 2 remaining chains. Yarn over, pull through 2, then yarn over, pull through 2. Cast on into the 2 stitches again (knit stitch in the first, cast on into the final stitch). Yarn over, pull through 2, and y/o pull through 2.
      Repeat until you reach the length you need for the width of your project.
      I don’t have a video on this, but this is the method I use.
      If you need to see a tutorial, look for “chainless foundation crochet”. TLYarnCrafts and Bella Coco both have good tutorials for this.

    Hi, I wanted to make a simple top-down beanie in knit stitch, an thought this technique would be perfect to use for it, but it's looking really weird, and I was wondering if you could advise! I thought i could just do the normal 6-increase-per-round to make a dome-y shape. so far i did 13 rounds of increases, and i'm 9 or 10 rows into the straight rounds. I may very well have made the crown too big for this stitch, but it's not even starting to form a hat-like shape...at best, like the top of a pumpkin...before it even gets round. it just gets bigger and bigger. Does that sound normal, should i have used fewer increases per round, or is there something else I should be doing differently? Or perhaps a top-down hat in tunisian is a bad idea in general! Most patterns seem to start at the bottom, but i wanted to do it that way because I thought it would be easier to tell when to stop increasing, than when to start decreasing. If you have any tips for me, including about how many inches of stretch I should account for with this stitch for sizing (that is, if the concept works at all), I would very much appreciate it! Thank you!

    • @ModeBespoke
      @ModeBespoke  3 роки тому

      🤔 does it lay nearly flat at the top? When you get a moment, would you email me a photo so I can see it? I have some ideas, but they all depend on seeing that the project looks like.

    Hi. I am an experienced crocheter but new to socks. I've just started my first pair of socks (in another pattern) but hope to make your socks as my next pair. I did purchase your Socks-in-the-Round Tunisian Crochet pattern and wonder if this stretch stitch can be used for your Socks-in-the-Round pattern? Or will you be developing a newer pattern with this stretchier stitch?

    • @ModeBespoke
      @ModeBespoke  2 роки тому

      You can, yes.Keep in mind that it will make your fabric wider, so definitely swatch.
      All of my newer patterns use an extended rp. There is a playlist on my channel devoted to sock patterns. 🤔 I think only the first two (the oldest) patterns don’t use it, all other TC patterns do.

  • @MaryNewhallMoondarlinCrafts

    will this work when you do graphghans? changing colors?

    • @ModeBespoke
      @ModeBespoke  4 роки тому

      That will depend on the stitch you use. This technique will stretch out the stitch a little, so it may still work, but it will likely widen the image a little.
      As for color changing, I’ve mostly used striped color work with this technique, so I’d have to try it on a graphghan to be sure.
      To test it, I’d find a small image, something that would make a potholder, and try it out that way before committing to a larger blanket project.

    I clicked the links and cannot find the double end hood you mentioned. I would absolutely love to join you in making the socks but cannot find a double end hook set for Tunisian. All the double end ones had different sizes on each end.

    • @ModeBespoke
      @ModeBespoke  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you for letting me know! I thought I’d saved the link and it seems I did not. I’ll post the link to the hooks I use in this message.
      I had the same problem when searching for short double-ended hooks, and ended up getting the set in the link. They are different sizes on each end, but that turned out to be a good thing. It helped loosen the tension in the stitch and made the fabric stretch just a bit more. Plus, they were short enough to make crocheting socks much easier than when using a regular double-ended hook.
      If you do find a Tunisian double ended hook, you’ll need a 3mm for the socks.

      No, though that depends on the yarn you use. Synthetics generally return to the original shape, but cotton has to be pulled in the opposite direction to get it to return to the original shape.
