      It's the problem with the press in general. A lot of them are failed writers or had dreams of being more than what they are, so they can't get out of their own way, drop the ego and ask very simple open ended questions. Instead of being patient Fishermen and baiting the hook, they feel compelled to show how much they know when we only care what the subject knows or is willing to share. Radio D.J.'s are horrible for this when they do interviews with Musicians. Eddie Trunk is a prime example. It's very important everybody knows how "inside' he is and how he knows all these people and the business. by the time he stops talking he's asked and answered every possible response to where the artist simply goes "Yeah" 🤤

      It's not that bad. Even if he hadn't answered the two possible answers himself, it would have indeed been the two possible answers. I usually don't like actors who are teen or look teen (i know he is not teen, but he looks like a 18 year old), and although in the book the character is really young, I though an adaptation would need someone who looked older. Oh boy, I was mistaken. Although he is slim and doesn't look like much, he has such presence. Perfect choice. Dune 2 is a masterpiece. I don't think the Oscars mean much but I know it means something for the ones involved, and I hope they take lots of them. They deserve it. Haven't had such an experience in cinema since ROTK.

There's so much fantastic stuff in Lynch's Dune, like the insolent-looking attendants of the guild navigator with their translation staffs. It's all so alien, just as required. Also all the intensely-ornamented decoration in the surroundings, the trappings of wealth in those cultures. It's hard to come at Villeneuve's Dune fresh. I read all the books decades ago. So it's hard to judge how it appears to someone new to it all. I'm enjoying it, but I guess the magic of the first experience of Dune can't be taken away.

    • @DuneInfo
      @DuneInfo  3 місяці тому +2

      Yes - for example in Sight & Sound:
      "The documentary about Jodorowsky’s Dune [directed by Frank Pavich, 2013] is a beautiful and very funny movie, and I suspect that Jodorowsky’s version of Dune would have been a fantastic Jodorowsky movie: maybe not a good adaptation of Frank Herbert, but a great movie all the same. He is like a planet on his own. I want to see that film. The thing is, to see the film like that, undone, unmade, we can all project our perfect movie out of the fragments we glimpse."

    I don't know why people irrationally seem to hate this guy, I've been reading Dune since I was a young teen (in my 30s now)...I thought his portrayal of the character was spot on. I mean Paul isn't suppose to be a hero, he is an anti hero who is desperately trying not to become one but is forced ultimately to become what is essentially Space Muhammad. A warlord slaughtering the galaxy.
    His version of Paul was the strongest in that sense of struggle I felt.

    The still-suits in the Lynch film were one of the best works of costuming I have ever seen...on par with the Thing's practical special effects. However Lynch sort of missed the point and turned the book's false messiah theme into a retelling of Jesus with "taming the noble savages".

    i liked the original actor better in terms of aesthetic but i think timothee fits better for the modern fans, paul was supposed to be conventionally attractive and charismatic man and on that part i think timothee and the prop / outfit department did a good job on it, as for acting the older dune was more of a stage theater performance while the modern one is a visual spectacle (for obvious limitations on what they could do in 84), can't say i saw any performance in the modern dune that would have ruined immersion which is good, the older one was great for its time but some of the performance comes off as goofy in modern days because of how mustache twirling and over the top it is

    2 ICONIC PERFORMANCE
    Alec Newman was also PAUL
    and people forget James McAvoy had a BREAK OUT ROLE in Children of dune which WB version will most likly butcher too.
    there are KEY lore problems with DUNE like the barron killing and Paul Killing the Barron.
    Arlia not even featuring in DUNE part 2 means there was SO much narative BS shrinking the whole of the book in to a less than 8 month time span.
    paul and chani never had any relationship or time to develop attachment so NYC chani came across as a RED FLAG clingy bipolar type you wanna avoid.
