oh my God THANK YOU for pointing out that Lilith isn't Adam's wife in the Hebrew Bible (or the Biblical tradition that most people followed for centuries) and that it's probably a tradition that got popularized by what is essentially a Jewish fanfic (i think? someone correct me on that). There's so many layers to the exact origin of Lilith and I always had a hard time explaining all of it to people, but this vid condensed all of it pretty nicely. Great work
Lilith isn't very present in christian scriptures, I only came across her story when researching about the religious references in "Neon Genesis Evangelion" 😅 Great video! And if you'd like to make some videos about the Kabbalah, I'm down for that. I think it would be great.
That would really be amazing! I don't think it's likely due to how "not-super-populaur" it is, and it isn't AS big as like Greek or Norse. I'm no expert on Slavic myth, but there isn't a WHOLE lot of stories, most of it is just characters (who do have many stories of course) Most stories of Slavic Myth feel like fairytale. Like the Koschei story, pretty much all baba yaga stories. But there is also the gods, but there doesn't seem to be much info.on them.
Lilith is also mentioned later with Cain after he's been banished to Nod. She takes him under her wing, I think that is in a literal sense, and looks after him. Cain can only drink of the blood of the land, thus this making him the first Biblical vampire, as the blood of the land refereed to the blood of people and animals, and this changed to Lilith being the mother of monsters as she acted as a mother to Cain
And what mythology isn't? Even in the past many of the of gods stories were just fanfic that didn't mesh well with the first appearance or created plot holes. Mythos are folklore in other words they are quite alive and have many variations of the same story because humans always make them more palatable to their own tastes and tastes change with time.
The owl thing is interesting, I might incorporate it into my Lilith character iny book series, I just luke the idea that she can just turn into an owl or something. This was a fun bit of research.

I should mention, because I seen the same kind of thing in the hazbin hotel Fandom, that Lilith with all the discrepancies written about her its entirely possible in way, shape, and form she is actually eve. Come on let's be honest we'd do the exact same thing in her position
I'm pretty sure Lilith is one of the few uniquely Jewish concepts. Christianity generally rejects her existence because she isn't mentioned in the Bible.
@@OptimusPhillipbut that doesn't stop some people from trying to make her cannon in the Bible when she didn't exist for a long time after the new testament.
This is all fascinating, but I NEED full video on the Kabbalistic angels, they look so weird but at the same time so fascinating. Maybe you can even compare these angels with the 9 types of angels from Biblical literature, or you could trace the origins of these angels back to polytheistic influence?? There is so much you could do here!!
It's funny to call it Biblical literature because that's basically what it is, the "9 types of Angels" are pure Bible headcanon that does not correspond with anything stated in early CE when it was written. Angels, or Mal'achs, are creatures that nothing had to do with the Seraphs and the Cherubs, much less the wheels that might not even be living creatures.

Way to end the video on a teaser for more esoteric Abrahamic scripture and Samael. An angel with so many written inconsistencies about whether they do God's messy work or is the literal king of all Satans, though always ended up as being wrestling buddies with Israel/Jacob. Frankly, they're so interesting to try and wrap your head around that its amazing how Samael doesn't get nearly as much representation in popular culture. On the topic of Satans, perhaps Liliths are also the same thing. Where Satan refers to an angel of punishment or destruction (through suspect sources), it eventually became a singular name for, of course, the Devil. Perhaps a similar thing occurred with Lilith?
As a child I was told that its more likely Jesus's sent Judas to have him arrested so he could argue his case before the king. Apparently Jesus's wanted the kings gold to build a church but didn't have enough lawful followers so was denied. Things backfired on him after insulting the king and he was to be crucified.... but Judas bribed the guards and took his place and Jesus's escaped and was seen leaving the city days later. The pope would have choked if he'd heard that.
As a Jewish Hebrew speaker who lives in Israel I'd just like to say- לילית means Lilit, in order to make the th sound you need to add this thing' on the taph ת so it would be 'לילית

I cant describe the feeling i got seeing your drawings of Senoy, Sansenoy and Semangelof, laughing at how silly they looked, and then being shown the image where they were actually depicted like that. Ancient Hebrew artists are wild for that

Gotta love that contradiction in the book of genesis. 2 humans made of clay at the same time, then another text of adam having a woman made from his rib, not clay. Huh, what an odd contradiction.
It doesn't specify in Genesis 1 what man and woman were made from, nor does it specify that they were made at the exact same second. All it says, in Genesis 1:26 & 27, is *"Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.* PERIOD! It's not a contradiction; it's a summary of what's to be said in Genesis 2.
In the original translation of the Bible it is not rib the wordwas translated to rib when the first English bibles were being made a more faithful translation would be side or half and Adam wasn't made of clay it was the dust of the earth
@@crimsondemon7347 Actually, both are correct in a sense. Remember? God shaped Adam's body from the dust of the earth; but Adam wasn't alive until God breathed life into him. Similarly, God caused Adam to fall asleep and took a rib from him to make Eve's body. The half, however, wasn't from Adam's physical being, but his spiritual being. Man and Woman were one in flesh and spirit when God made Adam; then God took a rib from Adam to make Eve's body and took her spiritual being out of Adam's. Her spiritual being was half of Adam's. So, yes, God did divide Adam in half; but spiritually, not physically. Eve's physical body was made by God from Adam's rib. Honestly, this is a recent discovery for me; and I just plain find it mind-blowing! ☺
Lilith would be associated with Lamashtu Lamashtu, (Akkadian), Sumerian Dimme, in Mesopotamian religion, the most terrible of all female demons, daughter of the sky god Anu (Sumerian: An). Often depicted with her is Pazuzu, the Mesopotamian king of wind demons. She slew children and drank the blood of men and ate their flesh. The bearer of seven names, she was often described in incantations as the “seven witches.” Lamashtu perpetrated a variety of evil deeds: she disturbed sleep and brought nightmares; she killed foliage and infested rivers and streams; she bound the muscles of men, caused pregnant women to miscarry, and brought disease and sickness. Lamashtu was often portrayed on amulets as a lion- or bird-headed female figure kneeling on an ass; she held a double-headed serpent in each hand and suckled a dog at her right breast and a pig or another dog at her left breast. The etymology of Lamaštu is evocative of her status in the respective cultures from which her name derives. Lamaštu can be traced to the Akkadian (the first Semitic language) words lamassu or lammar and Sumerian lamma for “protective spirit.” The Sumerian etymon is dim-me which means female spirit. In Greek Lamaštu is called Lamia (Λάμια) originating from the word laimos (λαιμός) which means gullet, in reference to her voracious appetite for unborn children. The English word lament-“sorrow, mourning and grief” is probably a derivative of Lamia, whose mythos evokes melancholia. Early translations of the Christian Bible substitute the lower case word lamia for screech owls, sea monsters and mermaids, compounding and inflating her monstrous persona.
Wait, in old akadian literature there is a great tree made by a god that has a large serpent at the base and a large bird in the leaves? Sounds norse to me
@@chansesturm7103 that is fair enough but it could be connected since they aren't that far and the myth of yggdrasil could have made it down to the middle east or the story was carried to Scandinavia by the settlers.

If I were you, I'd be seriously peeved that the algorithm Gods haven't seen fit to recommend your clearly similar content on my feed until now. In any case, I'm off to binge your videos. Carry on with your good work!
oh my God THANK YOU for pointing out that Lilith isn't Adam's wife in the Hebrew Bible (or the Biblical tradition that most people followed for centuries) and that it's probably a tradition that got popularized by what is essentially a Jewish fanfic (i think? someone correct me on that). There's so many layers to the exact origin of Lilith and I always had a hard time explaining all of it to people, but this vid condensed all of it pretty nicely. Great work
Great Video, hope you will also do a Video about Leviathan, Ziz and Behemoth
I know that the Behemoth and the Leviathan are mentioned in the Book of Job. I've heard of the Ziz, but I don't know where it comes from.
I've literally never heard of Lilith in my life before now.
Lilith isn't very present in christian scriptures, I only came across her story when researching about the religious references in "Neon Genesis Evangelion" 😅
Great video! And if you'd like to make some videos about the Kabbalah, I'm down for that. I think it would be great.
As a human I really like your videos
Liar
@@nicklewis470 how did you know?!
hey jake why dont you make a vid about slavic myths
That would really be amazing! I don't think it's likely due to how "not-super-populaur" it is, and it isn't AS big as like Greek or Norse. I'm no expert on Slavic myth, but there isn't a WHOLE lot of stories, most of it is just characters (who do have many stories of course)
Most stories of Slavic Myth feel like fairytale. Like the Koschei story, pretty much all baba yaga stories. But there is also the gods, but there doesn't seem to be much info.on them.
what about lesh?@@PauTheDeo
Lilith is also mentioned later with Cain after he's been banished to Nod. She takes him under her wing, I think that is in a literal sense, and looks after him. Cain can only drink of the blood of the land, thus this making him the first Biblical vampire, as the blood of the land refereed to the blood of people and animals, and this changed to Lilith being the mother of monsters as she acted as a mother to Cain
I think i actually asked about this on a previous video. Neat
OK the incantation bowl product disclaimer just earned you another subscriber. 😂😂😂 That was priceless.
So Lilith as portrayed in modern media is basically fanfiction... good to know.
Yes, VERY good! It'll save a lot of future headaches.
@@TheDoomBlueShell They said "modern media", as in NOT tradition?
Hell, JESUS is, considering how much he keeps getting referred to and re-envisioned, especially to justify things.
@@christopherb501 Jesus is no fanfiction, but those who would "re-envision" him and thus misleading others will have their reward.
I love your design for Inanna! She looks so good!
as a muslim who loves to learn more about other cultures and religions your videos are always the best use for me carry on
The ad warning about "incantation bowl" made me laugh so hard I almost choked. Love your content.😂
Adam never mentioned her, and Eve only met her once when she popped by to pick up her toothbrush and conditioner.
You could do an entire series of videos just on Mesopotamian myth.
As someone who is colorblind im really interested in a kabbalah video
The owl thing is interesting, I might incorporate it into my Lilith character iny book series, I just luke the idea that she can just turn into an owl or something. This was a fun bit of research.
As someone who is 1. A fan of both Evangelion and The Owl House and 2. A Christian who is very interested in the wierd side of theology, this video is very interesting and well made
what’s Evangelion?
@@CeilingFanE76 Neon Genesis Evangelion is a Japanese show about...giant robots that are also angels, I think? I haven't seen it, so my understanding is purely through pop-culture osmosis
@@LincolnDWard dang your actually right on the robot thing, the robots are actually kinda angels themselves,
And my profile picture is actually a main character in the show
As a Christian I am interested in learning about other religions so I am patiently waiting for the premiere to start
Can you make finnish folklore? 🥺
Oh shit, Evangelion lore
uh what about slavic myths
Your first congratulations 🎊🎈🎉🍾
Thanks so much for this... As a catholic, though it might be unconventional for my taste with you treating things of faith as mythical, I am still happy that you go through extensive research on your topics and showing them with wonderful illustrations... it's refreshing and very informative...
Can we maybe get a vid on Aztec myth?
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
@Grafittidemon8692 ?
I'll do you one better. WHY is Lillith?
The tree thing sounds like a parallel to the life tree thingy from Norse mythology. The thing with a snake an eagle and a squirrel
I should mention, because I seen the same kind of thing in the hazbin hotel Fandom, that Lilith with all the discrepancies written about her its entirely possible in way, shape, and form she is actually eve. Considering the rather misogynistic "retellings" it's entirely possible Lilith was used as a title, like Nyx, once she realized Adam was, like every man of that Era *COUGH ZUES COUGH COUGH* she went off on her own. Come on let's be honest we'd do the exact same thing in her position
Not sure if Hazbin is gonna add Greek gods and entities but it’s hell, so I guess anything’s possible atm.
Not sure if Hazbin is gonna add Greek gods and entities but it’s hell, so I guess anything’s possible atm.
I love how our first glimpse of Gilgamesh is him whipping out a glock and shooting a snake
Yay I've been waiting for someone to talk about this subject, but isn't this Christian mythology AND Jewish mythology
You would be correct
This sounded esoterica inspired so I'm not surprised to see the channel mentioned
In Hebrew Layla (לילה) is night most likely it’s just a way to refer to a night as in old Hebrew they do those things
Edit lilyyoth means nights so yeah mystery solved

oh, thats why shes in hazbin hotel
Do more about Egyptian mythology! You focus on the other big 2 of mythology, Greek and Norse a lot. Maybe explain how Khonsu is different from the comics please. The internet isn’t doing a good job. Or other gods.
I hope he does a video on Khonsu too!
You should make a video about the 9 REALMS
Part two!! Part two!! Love your stuff.

didn't the original hebrew say that eve was created from a _side_ of adam, rather than just a rib?
Yeah, I grow up Jewish and learned the bible way too much and I've never heard about the story about Lilith until a tv show that used her as a demon..
We're talking about supernatural right 😅
@@nicklewis470 no🤣🙈🤣🙈
As a child I was told that its more likely Jesus's sent Judas to have him arrested so he could argue his case before the king.
Hazbin fans are tweaking rn
As a Jewish Hebrew speaker who lives in Israel I'd just like to say- לילית means Lilit, in order to make the th sound you need to add this thing' on the taph ת so it would be 'לילית
Since the velocity of the cabinet is constant, its acceleration must be zero. Therefore, the effective force acting on it is also zero. This implies that the magnitude of opposing frictional force is equal to the force exerted on the cabinet, which is 200 N. Therefore, the total friction force is -200 N.
I cant describe the feeling i got seeing your drawings of Senoy, Sansenoy and Semangelof, laughing at how silly they looked, and then being shown the image where they were actually depicted like that. Ancient Hebrew artists are wild for that
Semangelof in his original drawing is my favorite, it doesn't even look like a bird. Straight up biblically accurate angel, ironically.
I didn’t know Lilith was real I just thought she was a character in hazbin hotel
Same😂😂😂
She isn't real, not even to the vast majority of people of Abrahamic religions.
It depends on where you look. I grew up going to church, and I certainly didn’t hear about her because I was Catholic, and remarrying after a divorce in the Catholic Church is considered adultery. I’m sure she’s mentioned in other sects of Christianity though.
@@videogollumer This was always my interpretation.
What if Lilith was just their interpretation of a bat, like, "night-creature with wings, etc..."
A night critter in the for of an attractive naked woman with wings!!! 😄😃😀
This video is very cool because a lot of people talk about Lilith like she is so important, but in my research, I could barely find anything
Because she isn't, like at all.
Lilith would be associated with Lamashtu
Lamashtu, (Akkadian), Sumerian Dimme, in Mesopotamian religion, the most terrible of all female demons, daughter of the sky god Anu (Sumerian: An).
Lamaštu can be traced to the Akkadian (the first Semitic language) words
lamassu or lammar and Sumerian lamma for “protective spirit.” The Sumerian etymon is dim-me which means female spirit.
I love these videos so much

Havn’t finished the whole video yet, but the three inhabitants in the tree part has my brain rolling. Could Lilith be a squirrel?
That would fit Norse tradition.
Wait, in old akadian literature there is a great tree made by a god that has a large serpent at the base and a large bird in the leaves? Sounds norse to me
To be fair, birds and snakes are pretty universal creatures, as well as trees. Without further evidence it's likely a total coincidence.
@@chansesturm7103 that is fair enough but it could be connected since they aren't that far and the myth of yggdrasil could have made it down to the middle east or the story was carried to Scandinavia by the settlers.

Maybe Lilith may rest means owls may rest as they are awake at night and it would be unnatural for them to sleep, aka unnatural things happen at end times
Yes I’ve been waiting for a Lilith video! From a factual historic standpoint you did great, love all the information provided! Though I hope I’m the next part you cover more of the other perspective of Lilith that is not inherited evil, but had to grow and evolve from darkness into the light attaining a lot of knowledge along the way. A lot of that perspective is derived from Gnostic religions. I would be happy to provide sources that depict the Lilith as less of a demoniac entity. Though I love mythology/spirituality for the spiritual aspects rather than the historical aspects of it, and Lilith is my primary deity so some of my knowledge has come from working with her and listening to/reading other peoples encounters with the dark goddess. Can’t wait to learn more about her in the next video
