“It’s my opinion surgery isn’t worth the risk” how?? this guy is dying 😭 he’s already experiencing the risk you’re worried about
surgeons have fans under their suits!
I would understand it if the patient would suffer pain with no chance of surviving. For example my dad had cancer and was too weak for chemo. He would have died anyway. But this young man got a chance.
Dying during surgery versus days or weeks with pain relief and loved ones
Its a ether you die now, or pay 2billion and day in a year
Amazing how a signer can be a surgeon. It had took years to master this stuff.
Why amazing? She still has a brain and her hands work.
@@heatherjunker967 It is not THAT easy xD
no. what's amazing is how society has recognized and made paths for people with disabilities to be successful in the jobs and careers they seek.
@@hinagikugamesnstuff2452 My point is even though she uses sign language, she is just as capable as anyone else would be to get the education needed to have the career she wants. In this case I am glad she is having success as an actor.
@@lizzyg0816 Society didn't just all of a sudden recognize the need. People have fought for many years to be recognized. Now there are laws in place to make sure they can succeed.
Oh good lord he's translating BEFORE she signs. Not how that works.
Hes reading her lips, as well as hes translating WHILST she signs, not after or before
Yeah he leading lips
1:19 Even for this show, this scene is hilariously -(and ridiculously)- dramatic!!! 😂😂
If I were in his shoes I wouldn't do any surgery I'll be in just let me rest kind of thing.. life isn't worth fighting for in such a condition
I would go for it. If I die, what’s the difference? I would already have been dying anyway. If I live, then good for me.
Would the interpreter need to have medical training as well?
In medical vocabulary and medical signs yes but not actual medical training. They would need to be a certified interpreter which would attest to their skill.
They’d have to learn how to keep sterile or clean in OR but not much other than that
Ah Martha 0:01
If nothing else, they would all have see-through masks on in theatre.
Love seeing disabled characters!
Deaf people do not see themselves as disabled. They have language and can communicate quite well. They would be fine if there were no hearing people on the planet.
@@heatherjunker967 Approximately 0.36% of doctors are deaf, according to the National Deaf Center.
The only thing that worries me is the time delay when every second counts to stop doing surgery to communicate since mask even though it's clear can make it easy to mistranslate... But overall I'm sure they figure something out or just don't do certain time sensitive surgery... Would be interesting to see real a story
@@heatherjunker967 deaf people are disabled. legally, functionally, every definition. its pure arrogance to assume otherwise. im hard of hearing and im disabled. no ifs or buts.
everytime i see series like this i ask my self: where is the anesthesiologist? circulatory stabilization is where anesthesiologists shine. not the surgeons and the the oncologists wtf does the oncologist even in the OR? she is with internal medicine
There are surgical oncologists, so that's the least wrong thing in the scene.
I'm sorry, isn't it a little strange how she's looking at the doc as if reading his lips while not looking at her translator, but still knowing how to respond is that normal?
2 billion dollars?! Obviously this in the US. No where else on Earth would such price gouging be allowed. I don't care if it's the most complicated surgery in history, there's no conceivable way something that takes 20 hours and almost no materials could warrant such a high price.
2 million
@@GingerNinjaJ05 2 million would certainly make a lot more sense (but still ridiculous), but I listened to it multiple times to make sure I heard it right, and I turned on UA-cam's CC, and yeah, he's definitely saying 2 billion.
How are their clear plastic face masks not fogging up? TV magic?
Plastic face masks do not fog up due to how they are made. I believe they have small holes or venting space. They are used often for instances like this with the deaf and HoH. I wish they were more readily available as I found pandemic years difficult for me with my deafness.
@@rosielass459 we had similar ones here during the pandemic, but they fogged up terribly
In the army, we would put either alcohol or oil on the lenses of our eye protection, oil works best as it is more hydrophobic than alcohols and doesn't evaporate away as readily, though the alcohol would still leave behind a residue that would ideally prevent water from sticking to the surface, but i highly doubt they put that much thought into this

UNDOUBTEDLY ADORB CUTE

IRL, bs to fast for translating and communicating
I understood everything she signed just fine and I was a Sign Language Interpreter before my husband became disabled. It really was normal speed.
@@heatherjunker967so there were no translations before she finished signing? Because that’s what another commenter accused of
1:49 “the hpaddleduadoddle ligament”
@@heatherjunker967 is the signing accurate? I am always so curious when I see signing on television!
@@queenofcrows Yes, it was accurate.
Watched the whole show Max’s wife died then he dated Elizabeth
When are the idiots writers going to learn that if there's NO pulse, there's NO benefit in shocking with a defibrillator.. Their job is to correct a heart rhythm, not start the heart 🤦♂️
Not true. You can have electricity running through the heart and not have a pulse. The patient is on the brink of life and it's as much of an emergency as you can have, but you don't need a pulse to need a defibrillator
the guy had ventricular fibrulation you use a defibrillator exactly there. was correct.
@@MusicWard-n9p incorrect, maybe go do first aid? 🤦♂️
@@markhaber3131 they clearly said he had no pulse 🤦♂️
This is not real. It’s a drama show
Trust in Jesus Christ and have eternal life.
Better hope the guy who signs doesnt call in etc. they would be down 2 for 1
They could probably bring another guy in
@Thathestiadevotee that's two extra salaries to cover one doctor
@ I’m not sure if Ben (Wilder’s interpreter) is actually employed by the hospital. He was her interpreter at her previous hospital and they seem to be really close friends, not just colleagues. I think a fair amount of interpreters are also volunteers. There are other accessibility tools that Wilder uses throughout the show. Later in the show, Max also learns sign language so he could probably interpret.
@@Thathestiadevotee my life in a volunteers hands!!! That won't end bad... It will end horrifically especially since it's hard to sign and read lips with masks and constantly stopping to sign. Better hope they only do minor surgeries since every second counts for most major surgeries.... It's a horrible accident waiting to happen and why you only will see it in a show...
@ Have you actually done any research on deaf doctors or seen one work?
