      tbf his reaction to the med student had its merit. No medical student would have the guts to do what that med student did as they'd be kicked out. Sedatives as a form of control - requires actual forms for legal purposes (which needs to be signed by consultants) as theyre monitored and they need to demonstrate significant safety risk for others/patient in order to be valid. They also have to trial other least restrictive methods before even considering that. Sedating a patient to examine them? and think ow now I can examine you in peace? loollllll that aint happening. many patients come in confused and delirious, we don't actually wan't them to be sedated

      Agreed. He shouldn't have had to tell her anything. She's a psychiatrist in training. There's no reason she wouldn't recognize the signs of psychopathy in her father and figured it out on her own. This was all due to her insecurity and refusing to believe that her father was a bad man. I doubt him telling her would've changed anything. She would've refused to believe it until it was too late. And honestly, I think it's unfair that she walked away from him when she saw that Dr. Charles hesitated saving her dad. Most likely the reason he would've done that was to save her. To prevent her dad from hurting her more. Or others. I guarantee that he would've done that for her. And that's assuming he didn't come to his senses. I feel so bad for Dr. Charles here. He was in an impossible situation and Sarah's dad put them all there. Really Sarah's dad won. Sure he's in jail but he also just destroyed two more people's lives, his daughter's and Dr. Charles.

    For those not certain: In the clip immediately before this, Doctor Charles does indeed stop and pause. Only when the daughter walks into the room, does he call for help. He may not have gone through with it, but he definitely thought about letting the dad die.

      It’s human. Biases can affect your actions in moments of great emotional distress. Man was convinced he had a serial killer in front of him, someone who hurt someone he cared about, someone dangerous. He hesitated cause for amusement moment he forgot he had a moment of weakness about whether he should save this man, it’s human.

    • @SuperArnie
      @SuperArnie Місяць тому +1

      Another aspect could be, that the psychiatrist would not have had to be the one to put that final piece in the puzzle. Had the serial killer died on that floor in that first scene, the psychiatrist could just have waited for the truth to come out or even not, without the danger of more victims - and possibly could have avoided that confrontation with the daughter.

    • @jessicaarmstrong5035
      @jessicaarmstrong5035 25 днів тому +1

      You know, to be honest, I don't think Dr. Charles is a psychopath or a killer. I think he knew that Sarah's dad had hurt her a lot and had hurt many others. He probably thought that if Sarah's dad had half a chance he'd get out of this again. And that it would be easier for everyone involved if he wasn't around. It's scary to think but we're all capable of doing that. We've all questioned if truly evil people should have the right to live. I don't think it's really fair of Sarah to do that to Dr. Charles. He's human. And we all make mistakes. Whether he would've went through with it or not we would never know because she interrupted before he could make that choice. I think it was a catch-22 situation for Dr. Charles. Let him live and possibly give him the chance to hurt Sarah and others even more? Or let him die? It's an impossible choice and I think Dr. Charles cared so much about Sarah that he was leaning towards the latter. I feel so bad for him here. You can see that he's tortured by this. I do think that Dr. Charles might have some traits that are similar to psychopaths. There's a phenomenon called "splitting" whereby a person divorces themselves from their emotions when they are under extreme stress. It's a defense mechanism. Being that Dr. Charles has clinical depression, it's very common for those people to develop that. He's also a psychiatrist and is literally trained to do that too, to be objective. It's entirely possible that he's been close to that line before. But I don't think he's a psychopath. If he was, he wouldn't have had that moment where he looked like he was going to cry. It's such a shame. In the end, Sarah's dad still won because Sarah left Dr. Charles too. He destroyed another 2 people's lives to a certain extent.

      You just never really know what peoples true colours can end up being. I was the victim of a peadophile when I was 6 years old, he was a neighbour with two sons. I met him because I befriended his youngest son (same age I was) and my mum trusted him enough to babysit me some nights while she worked (she was a single parent). It was during one of those nights that it happened.
      I managed to run away before anything REALLY bad happened, but he still tried it when his own sons were just upstairs (if I screamed they would've heard). Kind of scary to think about how his children just being upstairs didn't hold him back.

      no, dr. charles let her down because she looked up to him for guidance, and then in a moment of weakness he went against a moral code that she thought they shared. tbh i don't understand all these comments like yours saying she's being bratty or wrongly blaming dr. charles. she clearly blames her father, that's why she turned over the evidence to the police and got him incarcerated. i think it's more akin to if you were religious and looked up to the priest at your church, and caught him in a major sin. if you then strayed from religion, it would be very understandable.

One of the symptoms of depression is a phenomenon called "splitting" whereby a person divorces themselves from their emotions under extreme stress. You can see that here 100%. I can't even blame Dr. Charles for not trying to save her father when he was having a heart attack. He abandoned Sarah when she was child, and came back only when he needed physical and financial support from his daughter, for recovering from 1st heart attack. When Charles confronted him with suspicions he openly told him that he was using his daughter and on top of that he found out that he was a serial killer.

    And what, exactly, was he supposed to say? Oh, by the way, I think your father might be a psychopath and murderer, but there is a chance that I'm wrong and if that's so, then I have just irreparably damaged our professional relationship. So, you know... fingers crossed that I'm not wrong and your dad is a psychopath.

      @@heathercontois4501 I might ask you for clarity here cause I don't quite understand what you are saying. I'll try below:
      So you're saying psychopathy is actually 'Antisocial Personality Disorder' (APD?). That there's a range of personality disorders that a person can have, which all can contribute to APD diagnosis.
      That range of personality disorders that could be diagnosed to someone who is a serial killer is why you disagree with my statement about not all serial killers are psychopaths, because the term psychopaths is actually APD?
      Wait did I actually figure out what you were saying?

    • @heathercontois4501
      @heathercontois4501 2 місяці тому +5

      @@AshleyGrenstone Yes. The biggest problem with term serial killer, is that they have it classified as someone who killed 3 or more people, either in the same demographic or in the same manner. Well, Wade Wilson tortured 4 but then only killed 2. He's still a serial killer, they just caught him before he met the "classification" of a serial killer. Just like, it is a very plausible and accepted conclusion that there have been many truckers who have been serial killers, because of all the bodies found along incredibly busy main distribution highways. Since they have never been caught, they are simply a trucker who someone knows has either noticeable antisocial behaviors or has actively been diagnosed with APD. And then that's all there is because they haven't been caught.
      The point of the range is that really there are plenty of people who could be, but have adjusted to keeping those thoughts and actions to themselves because even within the mind of the disorder, they do have the touch of humanity left to know it's wrong. Then there are those, who don't have it and those are the ones that become active, even when they never get caught.

    • @AshleyGrenstone
      @AshleyGrenstone 2 місяці тому +3

      @@heathercontois4501 I think you're expanded explanation does a better job than my own, and I accept the premise that there being a range or 'spectrum' of diagnosis can contribute to the label of 'serial killer', depending on the circumstances.
      I also am familiar with the topic about truckers - it's because they have the means and the time to move from location to location, pick up people, it's an isolated job, and they can do their work and discard the evidence across many regions.

      @@mobiz711 Devils advocate because I'm anti-social and that's how I took it. It was also a genuine question because i may have misinterpreted it through my lens.
      When anti-social people want to hurt people; we smile more, because it disarms them. You'll also notice the guy labeled 'anti-social' was smiling during the heated exchange.
      So I took it to be that the doctor was a more well adapted psychopath.
      Further, when he got caught 'not performing' cpr...he wasn't panicked. He was calm, and relaxed.
      Anti-social does scream and shout sometimes, but not when we're going to hurt people. Screaming in shouting is the moments before we act; and never to the person we're actually going to hurt. As you saw with the doctor; he was screaming/shouting, then when he was with the person he actually wanted to hurt; he was all smiles.
      So I can't be certain; and to be fair; it could just be coincidence. I have a tainted lens of anti-social personality disorder, so I know my perception is sometimes flawed compared to others.
      That said; in real life I make these body language reads to win at poker; so they aren't that far off reality...otherwise I'd be a losing player.

He has just lost his protégés because of the actions of that evil man, he has been wronged and harmed and like every other person on the planet is happy to see the source of all his recent pain and anguish get his comeuppance. If we really wanted to psychoanalyse it a bit deeper we could hypothesise that he has just succumbed to projective identification - but to be frank I don’t see much point in hypothesising unconscious psychodynamic processes when accepting that he is not an omnibenevolent god and is merely human answers why he behaved the way he did.
