Why do people always put toothpaste on their face when they get a spot?! In today's episode of Dr Debunks, the series where I (an actual doctor) debunk common beauty, skin and aesthetic myths, we're talking about the old toothpaste trick.
Why do people do it? Does it work? Let's find out.

I’ve tried it on a very small dark spot I had on the back of my hand, to test the theory. Left it on my hand for 12 hrs a day for about a week. It worked! The spot had started fading day by day and now I can’t tell it was even there..
I used Sensodyne then switched to Colgate w/ baking soda, and the results are much faster for me. It gets rid of my pimples in about 24 hrs and dark spots start fading around the 2nd or 3rd day..
Gone in about 2 weeks..
Yes it dries out my skin, yes it burns and can give you a rash if you don’t give your skin a break.. But a simply moisturizer and skipping a day or 2 from application fixes that right up!
It might now work for everyone though, I just wanted to post my results 💕

It's kinda funny 'cause it DOES work when it comes to minimizing pimples. Whenever I had breakouts, I would often grab my Colgate toothpaste and squeeze a good amount for my entire face. It dries my face but it doesn't hurt at all, it's cool and minty and it makes you feel it's working. LOL. I think toothpastes in this area can be considered quick fixes.

@@mansedits1867 I'm assuming you left the toothpaste on for too long. For me I keep it on for just 1-2 mins since my skin is fragile but it will hurt badly if you wear it for more than 10 minutes
Yes. Toothpaste worked for me for acne scars. I'm not sure why so many " professionals" say it doesn't work.
Does it actually get rid of scars? I’ve got a bunch of acne scars and no idea how to lose them. Could you let me know exactly what you did with the toothpaste that helped you lose them?

Yes
But you will also need Glycolic acid - only use this once every 4 days to remove dead skin
Dead skin clogs up skin snd causes breakouts
You will also need to invest in a lotion that says skin toner
If you go into the sun without protection, the scars won't go away

Speak for yourself & stop acting like everyone's skin is the same.. I have been using toothpaste on my face for years now! I take a facial scrubbing brush, apply some toothpaste & wash my entire face with it! It is the ONLY thing that has EVER worked for me! It has never irritated or overdried my skin & I have zero pimples because of it! Make sure to only speak for yourself next time, because you cannot speak for everyone!!
Toothpaste really help me to get rid of all pimples on my whole face! Actually it's a Miracle for me.. But i never leave toothpaste on my face, i just apply & rub in circular motions and wash it off! I use it as a facewash & it clears oily on my face.
That's funny. it worked for my spots on my legs. And those spots were hella dark. Now they have lightened. I can still see the groove where the mosquito bite was but the dark spot is gone. I've never tried putting it on my face though

resi 69 when I used it , not really depends if you irate it a lot. Like when I did it , I applied before it started to form but honestly if I was you I’d do it . Doesn’t really irate you skin unless you keep picking the pimple constantly

I never heard of this when I had spots, but I sense that I would have been an enthusiastic user. Reminds me of the use of Preparation H for under eye bags that no longer has the salient ingredient in the US. I think. 🙏😘✨⭐️

tbh it works for me (not from colgate tho but still a toothpaste anyway), ONLY to reduce the pain of a big a** pimple on my forehead that I can't pop. But yea it dries the skin off and I agree it's damaging the upper layer of the skin. Maybe a collagen serum will help the skin cells to regenerate????
I use charcoal Colgate twice a week for my face bc of blackheads, now my blackheads is a little bit gone.
White toothpaste has a higher dosage of fluoride in it. I believe colored additives take away from the potency. What happens is there's a chemical offset that dries the area from within. Recommended time is At Least an hour, preferably overnight.
For skin irritation it gives off an "Icey Hot" warm and cooling sensation which refrains you from scratching.
THERE IS NO COMPARISON to the results. ApplyAccordingly
okay i have had it on and watched this video, i took it off right away. so what happened is all of the smaller acne that it was covering is gone (kept on for 15-30 minutes). for larger acne it isn’t gone but is faded a bit, but something weird is that my face is itchy and tingling. also it doesn’t do anything to help with acne scars as far as i can tell.
also i don’t really know what type i used, it doesn’t have a label on it but i know it’s toothpaste

Toothpaste dose work i use it on pimples there gone within two through three days. The latest a week i always put it on a pimple while i sleep . shes right it dry out the pimple . ive been Doing it for years . ive never had a problem
Sometimes those product that aren’t made for skin is more effective than skincare products.

I do actually do it but only cause I don't have any like "acne" products. Before I just would wash my face all the time,I figured I didn't think I could get acne if I just cleaned my face all the time I guess and it doesn't work really.

It works with me but it leaves a mark. The pimple mark became black. I am worrying right now cause I don't know if my face will be a mess. Like, I don't want to have a holes in my face. As a girl, I am really scared.

Very interesting video. What do you think about the use of ointment Ichthyol to heal spots? I was told to put it on the affected area, cover it with a plaster and leave it overnight. I see some results, especially when spots are not "mature" yet....but it leaves the area extremely dry for the following days... Do you think that it is a valid method or just another trick such as toothpaste and so on?

Remember if you use toothpaste make its white one ( Colgate) and don’t keep it for too long just like for 1 min is enough but do it everyday
If u keep it for too long u will feel itchy and it going to leave dry pimple mark

It works for me. Benzoyl peroxide does not help me, Zitsticka stickers too.
It does work, I use it every time I get a dark spot and I see results EVERY single time.

It definitely works, if you buy a decent brand. It can nip in the bud quite bad neck spots.

Colgate toothpaste worked for me for years to get rid of acne overnight.
As a guy this always works for me but when I searched it up they say not to try it😂 another plus is my skin isn’t sensitive so it never burns or irritates my skin.

I tried it om one of those huge "under the skin" pimples and left it on overnight and the next morning it was all on the surface. It is incredibly drying though but the pimple would have taken probably a week to come out like that and it came up overnight.

Actually just at a conference now John and again the fact it kills pancreatic B cells and leads to obesity was brought up.
Just use the magic cream (sudacrem) and change you’re pillow she’s every two days.
I tried it. Some of my zits kinda disappeared, but I had to wash it because it was burning so bad that I couldn't sleep.

What do I do because I've got spots
I tried a toothpaste with microgranules on the pimples but the next morning I noticed that it left white spots on my skin which is brighter where i put the toothpaste, why? Is it reversible? i'm afraid i damaged my skin...
I guess I should tell my friend to go back to being spotty, lol. He tried everything. I seriously doubt he likes putting toothpaste on his face; nothing else worked.

Probably not unless you want a minty fresh face
Fluoride is the active ingredient that counter reacts to the skin. The more fluoride, the more potent. Compare this method with White toothpaste and Colored toothpaste !

Fluoride is poison.
Is it dangerous to have flouride on the skin perhaps getting into the blood stream? I do this rarely and it works really well. I leave it on all night and when I wake the pimple is gone and I wash the toothpaste off

@@DrSarahTonks But, I see your point, that in combination with the other ingredients it doesn't stand out in positive effect. Drying out a pimple makes everything so much worse and can force the inflammation to grow towards inside the skin. Or at least a knot might stay in the skin, because the sebum (or puss) could not exit.
However, eating less fatty and drinking prevents us from the pimple drama.
Ka Mi I think hydrogen peroxide is one of those interesting underrated chemicals

Ashley d yes peptides definitely work but they are at the top of the skincare pyramid so make sure you’re using SPF, antioxidants, DNA repair enzymes, retinols and acids first before you add in peptides!!
Dr Sarah Tonks sure .. what’s your opion on ordinary buffet serum ? It claims to have lots of peptides and reasonable too .. but dno if it works

I have been putting toothpaste on my legs for 8 to 12 hours twice a day for 4 days now. I am doing this for a whole week and seeing if the spots is completely gone. I saw this UA-cam video on this and it worked for them. HOPEFULLY it works for me. I just dont know what to believe right now until I try this.

@@tokyxo2095 Totally and 100% agreed. It is just the fact that I had to embarrass myself at school with my legs all covered in toothpaste (I had to wear a skirt because school uniform). So much time and effort and embarrassments was all for nothing. Now I think the scars will never go away. Depression has crawled inside me and is eating is eating away at my heart. 😭😭😭😭

In the UK, "spots" are a colloquialism for pimples, acne, blackheads etc.

Actually, colgate total toothpaste still contains triclosan ;-). Check the ingredients label next time you're in a supermaket if you don't believe me :-)
From their website "In addition to US FDA and the EU Commission reviews, the two EU medicinal authorities who have reviewed Colgate Total ® with triclosan, the UK and Irish Medicinal Authorities (MHRA and HPRA), have both approved it as a safe and effective medicinal toothpaste, as have the comparable health authorities in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand."

If you have very and I mean very oily skin and tried pills from the doctors use toothpaste though but scrub with a a wash rag not fingers sure it opens the pores up and use crest it’s better I tried and I use to have a pizza face but I don’t know this is my honest opinion for anyone with my problem do it during night time before bed get a shower and wash it off and them re apply after the shower in 30 minutes when your face is dry for the day but don’t use as much in day than night it’ll look bad and toothpaste in your eye will happen it will burn for 10-20 minutes but go away won’t affect your eye though
It may or may not get rid of spots but it can be really bad for your skin!
