One million THANK YOU’s for this!!!! It worked like a charm. I had build up on the glass and all. It got rid of it all. I used washing machine cleaner religiously since I got the washer and it still got moldy. This was the best way to clean it.
I used Clorox cling bleach toilet bowl clear put plastic and then a towel...probably over kill and it worked really well...I had to do it twice to get the stains out but it did work...thanks for the idea.....
I was wondering if the toilet bowl cleaner would work. I was a little hesitant because of the blue color, glad it worked out for you! Thanks for letting us know.
I bought the replacement boot for 100$. took about 30min to replace with a friend to hold the spring at top, while I stretched the bottom to put in place. I used needle nose pliers, 4-in-1 screwdriver and a screwdriver that has several bits, including the torx bit. There was considerable mold inside the machine, including around the fluid reservoir. took hours of cleaning to remove the easily visible mold. I am now using white vinegar in the bleach reservoir as well as the fabric softener reservoir.
These machines are really expensive and then you find out you paid a fortune for a mildew producing machine that requires a lot of maintenance. Once you get it degunkified, wipe the seal dry as best you canafter every wash and leave the door and soap tray open between washes to combat the moisture/mildew problem.
Thats what I do,after every wash I get a dry rag and go around the inside rubber area. I even go back behind, the real nasty that you can't see...yeah I agree these machines are expensive and a lot of keeping up!!!!
Thank you ! Thank you ! I have spent so much time trying to clean the gasket and your video helped so much ! I didn't even know those pens were available so I thought I have tried everything else why not. I used the entire container but I covered it with plastic wrap instead because I thought it would stay wet and not dry out overnight. I didn't expect much this morning but it's does a wonderful job !
I'm in South Africa, I had the same problem, black mould build up in the front loader gasket. I tried all sorts of remedies to no avail. I read somewhere for a last resort. I bought Dr White's sanitary pads, I took two, wet them thoroughly with our local brand "Jik" bleach and I tucked the sanitary pads around the gasket that was black with mould, many years accumulated. Within 5 hours the mould was completely gone. I removed the pads and wiped down the gasket with clean water and a cloth. Hopefully the mould is gone for good. The gasket should also be wiped to remove any water and soap residue in the gasket after every load of washing.
A little tip for US housewives. When washing whites, simply add a small dash of Jeval or Domestos (chlorine cleaner suitable for washing laundry). Let it rinse with Water in the washing powder compartment for the main wash. About half a capful from a liquid detergent. This way, there are no deposits in your washing machine and your white laundry will be bright white.
I cannot believe how easy it work. It is hard to put it on the top of the rim, but put it on a strip of paper tower it will stick on the top of the rim. Thanks. By the way, it is Clorox Bleach Pen stick.
You can using paper towel and spray it wet with your choice of bleach or vinegar, which would let it stick to the rubber part and do its job. Instead of section by section, so it would save more time. Same technique for cleaning the toilet bowl and letting the bleach or vinegar do its thing over time, and making the sanitizing process more effortless.
This is a good idea! I was also told fabric softener is an issue. We had quit using it years ago, but I tjhink the damage was already done and everything was already coated with a waxy film that will probably never break down. 😐
Yes, 100% and it has lasted over a year. I am just now seeing it start to discolor a bit. I would recommend putting on a pair of gloves and wiping out underneath the rubber part as well, it can build up a lot of nastiness under there. But yes, try this one, it was super easy, cheap and worked incredibly well!
I'm getting ready to work on my nasty Whirlpool washer too but did you flip up the gasket and do it underneath too? Just wondering since it's completely disgusting under there as well. I'm going to use cotton coil to keep my bleach in place, we'll see...fingers crossed 🤞
Thank you for your insight but your video should probably lasted maybe a minute and a half at most. I do appreciate your video. But wow! 1) Identify the issue : washing machine mold on the rubber ring. 2) Identify the product needed to fix the issue: “Clorox Bleach Pen”! 3)Put contents of pen on stain covering the stain only & let set for 6 hours plus with 2 pieces of folded paper towel on top of the gel to prevent possible damage to other areas of one’s washing machine, 4)Repeat if necessary & Done!
The paper towel does soak up the bleach but it acts like a "bleach pad" and holds it in place. It takes a long time for the towel to dry so it is working until the towel dries out. It did not bother the plastic at all and my washer still looks good over a year later!
After I cleaned the seal and pulled it back and cleaned under it, I haven't had much of a mildew smell. I remember when I first started trying to figure the problem out I did a couple of vinegar washes and that seemed to help a little. But, no...I don't really have any good tricks for the smell.
Had a front load machine for years and because it was a hot fill machine, as opposed to the new cold fill only, never had any problem with mould. Since having a new machine with cold fill only have I had this problem.
To get around, this turn off the cold water at the tap behind your machine when filling for the wash cycle - voila! - hot water for your wash cycle! Don't forget to turn the cold water back on for the rinse cycle, unless you want to rinse in hot water, too.

I meant cleaner.
I was wondering if the toilet bowl cleaner would work. I was a little hesitant because of the blue color, glad it worked out for you! Thanks for letting us know.
I couldn't find a bleach stick at the store, so I went with your method, and it worked so well - like miraculously! Thank you!!!
Bleach does not kill mold, it will only take the black out of the surface. better to use white vinegar to get the roots of the mold.

The mildew has been incredibly disappointing . Great tip!

Yay! I am so glad to help. I tried everything as well it was so gross looking:( Fyi, it is still holding up and I have not had to do it again👍
Cool, I'm now going to try this. Mine is gross & it drives me insane.

Great idea! Leaving the washer door open on to let the washer dry is also good.
Did you look into the inner fold of that gasket by pulling it back with your finger? If not, prepare to be shocked
Yes! That is the nastiest place ever. 🤮

Great video but all I can say is to try powder detergent and hot cycles will prevent this from happening

@@a.typical_life I have never used fabric softener and I stil have mold. :-( I will try this though.
To save $ there are recipes for bleach gel - corn starch water and bleach!
Cool! Thank you, I was about to buy another pen😃
If the bleach is left on for 12 hours do you think it could eat through the rubber?
I did not have any issues:)
excelente recomendación... hemos buscado muchas opciones en internet y está ha sido la única en resultar cierta... muchas gracias!
muchas gracias!
Please tell me this works. There are so many diy’s on youtube for this problem

Witam czy może Pani napisać jak preparat Pani stosuje do czyszczenia pleśni Moze Pani odpisać w języku English Dzięki pozdrawiam z Polski
Use bleach on a paper towel and lay the paper towel on the mold for at least 4 hours. Remove bleach and rinse well and repeat if necessary.

Good luck! Yes, it is gross under the gasket😫
How did you use the bleach pen to get under the gasket?
Looks fab.
What is the pen, I can't see the make.
It was from clorox. It has been almost a year and still haven't had to do it again!
it is Clorox Bleach Pen stick

For how long we have to stay the paper towel in the rubber?
I think it was about 6-8 hours.
Wouldn't the paper towel soak up the bleach? Did it do anythung to the plastic? Thanks!!

My whle house smells like mildew when we have been gone. Did a major dishwasher clean, now for my 17 yo front loading Maytag.
Oh no! So frustrating, I hope you get it straightened out!

Yes!
Thank you so very much!!!
You are very welcome!
Do you think this will work inside the gasket with black mold and mildew?
You will have to pull the gasket back and clean underneath, but it will remove it from the actual gasket cover...I hope that helps!
@@a.typical_life it worked. I used odo ban on a hot cycle as well. I definitely want to try replacing the rubber seal eventually
