    If you can keep positive air pressure inside the cabinet, it will help keep dust out

      @@brewbuilds Size the fans accordingly. Fan in from the bath would have a higher cmf than the return fan. This should provide enough positive pressure to keep the area as dust free as the bath.

    Dude… get rid of ladder… move it over left of door to access box storage…. Build a open platform to stand on and store 1x4…1x2 type 8’stock… use more of that pad to stand on… a lighted step up to platform if needed

    The ladder is really cool. I would suggest instead doing a small storage cabinet, about 12 to 14 inches tall with a walk surface on top and a step or two at the ends. Added storage and simplifies getting into the 3D cabinet.

    Lovely. Take a tip from modern roller coasters, print another couple rollers, and mount them on the other side of the pipe, attached to the ladder, of course. Done.

      Thank you. That’s actually what I did. if you look closely you can see the arms for the second set of rollers. It wasn’t fully completed when I upload the video so I didn’t talk about it much.

    Others have already touched on overpressure for the dust issue, but that is a bit overkill to me. I would think that a few strips of felt on the edge of the glass will make a good enough seal to keep most of the dust out, and help to keep the conditioned air in. It doesn’t have to be air tight after all, you’re not trying to make a clean room after all.

    Nice one Rob. Regarding your comment about the glass doors not keeping out the dust have you considered using the shower door enclosure strips. The type that's usually pushed along the glazed edge of the shower enclosure that doesn't move and once you slide your door shut it creates a watertight seal from top to bottom. You can purchase them from any hardware store and they aren't expensive but it will definitely help to keep out the dust. I know that over here in the UK they charge about £10 or less for a roll of the enclosure strips. As for your ladder being O.T.T i don't agree, yes it's something different but that's why it is in your shop and not somebody else's. Plus you can always make a storage unit to be between your 3D unit and your ladder to keep your rolls of printer wire and all your other bits and bobs that needed for the 3D printer, and upon the top of the unit you can always use the space for tea and coffee making. You've cracked it, your very own Cuppa Brewbuild's station😅😂. As alway's brother 💯% 👍 🇬🇧 🫡.

      You are a genius! To be honest I didn’t even think about those shower door strips, and that just might be the trick. That’s an awesome suggestion.
      I probably came off a little over critical of the ladder in the video, I do think it’s pretty cool, and it was more of a fun challenge for myself. I like that type of stuff. It will definitely stay.

      Some l brackets extending off the rollers, encapsulating the pipe would keep her In check. You probably already figured that out though. Nice job and nothing too over the top

    change your fans in the 3d print area. 15-20% more supply than exhaust. keeps the area under positive pressure, minimizing dust intrusion. Still keeps the area heated or cooled.

      The positive pressure idea crossed my mind as a possible solution, you and a ton of other people have mentioned that. I’m definitely going to start experimenting with it. Your idea of change the speed of one fan is a good place to start. Thanks for your comment. 👊🏻

    Cool idea on therolling ladder. Have you thought about putting a step stool that's attached to the wall under the 3d printer that could be lifted up and folds flat against the wall?

    If you want to get fancy with your 3d printer case, get a good size fan and put a motion detector on it. Have it blow clean air in. Maybe bathroom air through a filter. The positive pressure will keep dust from entering the case when you're working in the shop. Or set up a timer to be on longer to keep out floating dust that lingers. Very cool build.

    Original job, I notice the space between the ladder base and top rung to the side of the storage is wasted as you need to move the ladder, you could add more storage there and have an angled outward extension for the smaller offcuts, its a way to use even more of the space.

    Very nice 👍. You can add more plywood storage or even other off cuts by building out under the ladder and leaning the material towards the bathroom. You didn’t say much about the printer vibration. Try a thick piece of the multi colored carpet pad, or some thick closed cell foam. Then put a concrete patio stone on top, then the primer. This may deaden the noise. You add some 2 or 3” thick egg crate foam on the walls and ceiling of the printer area to cut down on the noise.
    As making the printer area positive pressure will keep the dust from entering through the glass, you should add a shop vac HEPA filter on the input air flow to the area. The fans should easily be able to supply clean filtered air to your printer area.

      Thanks John! I decided to keep the face (between the ladder and enclosure) open do to possibly needing to use a step ladder to access the inside for more complex tasks. It is a longer video so I understand not getting to the end, but I did talk about adding off cut storage to the left of the plywood compartment opening, and I talked about the floor matting and how well it worked with vibration. This floor matting worked very well and I don’t hear or feel any vibration. 👍🏻
      I’m currently working on adding filtration to the fan setup, along with experimenting with the positive pressure idea.

    An idea for your stepstool: on large marine engines where you need to access the valve train regularly, there is a fold down platform for walking along. The platform hinges on the engine so you can fold it up, and the support legs hinge at the end of the platform so that they hang down when the platform is folded up. Uses up much less space but is still very usable and stable.

    Good work. Rotate the pipe rollers so they are on top of the pipe. Gravity will hold it in place.

    Nice work sir. To stabilize the ladder you could use 7/8" unistrut as a guide for the casters, or 1 5/8" with strut trolleys to really lock it in.

    I lick the sheet goods enclosure. Simple and functional. You need a dust hood for the router base and now you can 3D Print yourself a custom hood for doing that type of routing when the base is completely open.

      Thank you. I actually have a dust hood for this router. It works ok when I’m using it on smaller piece on a work bench, but larger projects or situations like this it’s more of a hassle.     Very impressive build!!! If you're going to store your filament in your new enclosure, you're going to want to add some active de-humidification to protect it. Heat and humidity are no friends of filament. GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!

    For the ladder, since you don't have steps to the top.. move the top guide rail to the side, even with the top step, cut off the extra stringers (maybe save just a little extra for a hand hold) and have the wheels roll across the top of the rail instead of the side. Or, you could put hinged steps on it that could swing up out of the way and flip down so you could access the top of the unit for additional storage. And definitely add a wheel lock so it doesn't roll while you're climbing on it. Just a couple of ideas... feel free to disregard them.

    Looks great! If you just push air in with both fans you can keep the enclosure at positive pressure. Pushing air out of the small gaps; keeping the dust out. Also solves the venting issue.

    People always mistake overbuilding with over engineering. They are actually opposites. Over engineering would be wasting time trying to make it as small and light as possible.

      Over engineering is something more complicated than it should be. Over optimising is something needlessly light or optimised in another way, and under optimised is a heavy or mediocre functioning structure.

    If you adjust your fan speeds you can create positive air pressure which will keep the dust out. Just make the fan pushing air in run faster than the other one. When you add the third fan it will be a bit more challenging but still doable.
    I use this same method for computers to keep the dust from building up inside the case.

    For moving your sheets, try to find rollers to put at the bottom. That being said, ain't gonna work if you need one only... (Updating myself as i write...)
    Instead of wide rollers, 3d print multiple 1/2" wheels and bundle them to form roller but keep them independent. Might work?
    Might also want to split the opening in multiple section so if you want the last on the left you don't have all the other sheets weight pinning it.
    Anyhow, love your build!

    Loved the video. I really want to know a year after how the ladder setup worked out. I have had a lot of problems with using none plywood for structural jigs unless just huge structures. When I have started to even try to craft things like you did, they all have broke. But glad you did it.

      @@brewbuilds sorry. Non plywood. Mind you, I was using cheap construction grade pine. It’s “structural grade” SPF just doesnt seem to hold up long term unless left mostly in the general dims that we buy them in the store. Even select pine is questionable at times. Plywood just seems to hold up best overall for me unless I am making a roller itself. I hope you have a notebook of past videos questions like this one, and review them once a quarter or year, and see if there is an easy update video of how it worked after a year or two. But if I was you, I wouldn’t use mine either. Js. Thanks

    Good tip on Meross I have been slowly automating a solar pool heating system for years but logic circuits and parts weren’t easily available to do it right. Meross sensors and switches may work. Also, instead of the ladder, I’d probably just put a hinged step shelf or collapsible bleacher bench to step up on and walk the length of the enclosure.

      I’ve been really impressed with the Meross products. I enjoy designing logic circuits myself, but it’s cool to see all the available products for the typical person and what you’re able to accomplish with little knowledge on the topic. 👍🏻
      I’ve had several people suggest the idea of a hinged shelf or similar variations. I plan on doing a follow up video of the things I’ve added or changed do to all the great feedback you guys have provided.

    3D printing in the woodshop doesn’t get enough attention. Best use is for shop stuff. I’ve done door handles for cabinets, router bit storage, vacuum adapters, all sorts of things. I find it more useful than a CNC in some cases.

    First time viewer, it's a good space saver solution, the only things I would change is putting dust gaskets on your sliding glass doors where they overlap and shorten the rolling 🪜 to the hight of frame below your window and replace the ladder rungs with deeper step treads.

    Try putting the pipe-track across the front face below your sliding doors and make a small step-ladder to suit.

    For your ladder, have you considered putting one one of the rollers on the other side of the bar (go over it and down) then put a stop at the end of the bar? This would lock the ladder in place and prevent it from being able from coming off.

    Very nice. I would positive pressure the enclosure with filter fans from the bathroom this would keep all the dust out. Also be sure the upper glass track screws don’t back out… the screw head will catch the edge of the glass as it passes and the glass will disappear… trust me. I learned the hard way on a huge trophy case.

      Thanks Greg! The positive pressure idea crossed my mind too. Now that it’s operational I’ll have to do some experimenting and see what I can come up with. Filtration is in the works especially for the abs/asa fumes i was talking about, but also for the dust reasons. I always forget to mention a few things during my edit. 😂
      Also thanks for the heads up on the screws in the upper track, I could totally see that biting me in the ass later on. So I’ll be keeping an eye on that!

    Bro, you need mass to dampen. Cheap and easy route (what I currently have for print shop) is a 12x12x1.5 precast paver from local bigbox for each foot. The more mass the better. I am about to move print shop to shared garage woodshop, so doing planning for similar project. I have an airbnb on the same level as the attached garage shop, so, vibration cancellation is crucial. These things run 24/7 doing production printing. I have a 600cubed printer that throws around a LOT of mass with klipper (bambu-like) accelerations and speeds, but it's on rollers on the ground. It will be mounted to studs on the rear with a vibration decoupler. No, it's beastly frame can't handle the klipper accels standing alone. And, whew, ladder access to printers... couldn't imagine. Although Bambu's are way more dependable than average printers, those little robots are needy b$tches. I hesitate even having them at shoulder level, lest I need to take it down. Every printer I have needs very often easy front access, occasional side access, and less occasional back and bottom access. No way I'm taking then off a high shelf each time.

      Sounds like you have quite the setup! The mat has worked great I don’t even hear my printer running or any vibration.
      The height of the enclosure isn’t ideal, but I found it to be better for my needs and not wanted to take up more floor space to build a dedicated platform for it and futures printers. Fortunately it’s not hard to pick it up and take it out if I have to do any major maintenance on it. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👊🏻

    Wow where do I start, this popped into my feed and I have never seen any of your other vids before. It was awesome to see all the skills, capability, and technology you used in this project. I hope young men/women that are interested in the trades see this and strive to be able to accomplish a project using project management, materials selection, woodworking skills and just the quest for constant improvement. I think the ladder was cool to watch the construction and outcome but Impractical compared to the thoughtful other parts of the project. I think Mike Rowe could have been a great guest to help clean the shop, it is a "dirty job." Bad Dad joke, I know.     Looks like a great project. One issue you might find, the filament will end up getting quite a bit of moisture from the air from the bathroom which could affect your prints a lot. Just something to be aware of

      That’s a very valid point that I didn’t consider. During the colder months I always noticed the enclosure having a substantially lower humidity than my shop, but I would imagine during the warmer months that could change. Thanks for pointing that out.

    Seal off the bathroom nice and have both fans forcing air into the enclosure from the bathroom to keep positive pressure in the box to prevent dust.

      Thank you Steve! I have, and at the end of the video I talk about adding an off cut storage rack to the left of the opening for the sheet goods compartment. I’m a little hesitant putting anything permanent on the face of it because if I ever do need to use a little step ladder to access the inside of the enclosure I’d have to lean over it to get inside. 👍🏻 thanks for watching, and taking the time to comment. 👊🏻

      @@brewbuilds I had a similar solution in mind. Since you have 8' of space, you could make it a relatively narrow bin, with stepped sections for different length offcuts (tallest in the front, since they're likely to be heaviest), and the shortest in the back. As long as sticks out less 12" or less, you shouldn't have too much trouble reaching from a stepstool. Also, it may be worth a little effort to realign the bottom wheels on the ladder to reduce that problem. Clamping a 2x4 across the bottom, and butting the wheels up against that should help.

    I suggest adding 2 cleats to the bottom and top of the plywood slot.
    This would allow 3 sections of plywood and less leaning. Instead of having to dig out the sheet you want it would already be divided and the leaning would be near nil.

    Nice build. Was thinking you were crazy venting the printers into the bathroom, glad you have plans to vent outside when your print ABS/PLA/etc... Ladder is neat... but I think if it were me I'd build a ~2=3' high platform (with steps) and then put lumber storage under it for both eight footers and off cuts. Always need more space for scraps.

      Venting into my bathroom and the fume concern was always something I wasn’t super pleased with. I have since made both fans pull air from the bathroom and direct it into the enclosure. So no more circulating it, but I am still working on on the separate setup to exhaust it to the outside of my shop.👍🏻
      The ladder was honestly more of a fun challenge, and I agree it’s not the best solution. I’ll be addressing that along with other changes in a future video. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👊🏻

    Nice job. To move all your sheet goods you need a Garbo. See Izzy Swan...You could mount and power it on your unit some where, I'm sure. 😅For your new access ladder look at a Werner S313P-2. It folds to about 2" thick. I can already see your 3D printed keep-it-handy -but-flush-against-the-wall bracket. Just subscribed...

      That Werner ladder is exactly what I’m thinking will be the most logical and is convenient. The ladder I built was purely out of curiosity, and a reason for me to see if I could do it. I knew it wouldn’t be a permanent feature. 😂😂

    Great video. Thank you for sharing the journey. Regarding your 3-D printer vibration… I currently have mine on a paver stone with a piece of carpet underneath of it… Do you think the harbor freight pads would be better than a solid piece of stone with the carpet to help reduce vibration?

      Thank you! I’ve seen people do that with pavers before, I guess the idea behind that is just adding more mass to the platform the printer(s) are sitting on.🤷🏻‍♂️ I think the important part/first line of defense is having a solid surface for the printer to sit on. I haven’t done the paver method before so I don’t have any way of comparing it. I can say this foam matting has proven to work extremely well, and I don’t hear any vibration.

    If you would use fans to maintain a positive air pressure inside the printer enclosure, you will keep the dust out. Since the print enclosure is connected to the bathroom, keeping a positive air pressure inside the bathroom will keep the dust out of there, too. The old 2 birds with one stone trick…

    Nice work!I added a little sliding door lube to make my enclosure doors slide easier,
    And maybe a lees roller on the storage for plywood would help make them slide in and out.
    I will say that you could add a filter maybe.
    Add a metal clip to keep your ladder from derailing on top.
    So that you you continue to make bad as video’s😊👍

    Really great project, well done. However the printer compartment is still going to get drenched in dust. Couple fixes would be some thin foam strips you could push in between the ends of the glass panels every time you open one. A better choice would be positive pressure. Get a couple small fans and mount them somewhere inside the enclosure. When printer (s) aren’t in use use the foam strips to keep dust out.

    Very interesting build. Two questions/suggestions for the ladder. Could you modify the caster mounting with some sort of springs so that it would contact the floor when you put your weight on it? There by increasing the safety. Also, is there a space in your shop where you could mount another piece of iron pipe and use the ladder there to access elevated storage?

    SUGGESTION: Have both fans direct airflow into the printer enclosure. This creates a positive pressure environment and will reduce the amount of shop dust that makes it into the enclosure.

    I have some regrets storing plywood vertically the long way. I got lucky but it was pretty bad. Retaining them is smart and never underestimate the damage they can cause.

      I changed the direction of the fans so now they both are pulling the air from the bathroom and into the enclosure, so it doesn’t vent back into the bathroom, and creates positive pressure inside the enclosure. I do plan on adding an additional fan to exhaust the enclosure to the outside of my shop for when I’m printing ASA, or ABS.

    Rob, just found your channel…subbed. I appreciate your down to earth approach! The ladder thing-are you referring to the ladder pulling away from the black pipe? If so, why not make a third roller that rolls on the back side of the pipe-in essence clamping the pipe…? Just my 2¢ ;)

      That’s exactly what I’m talking about, and that’s what I’m working on to correct it. If you look close in the video when I’m installing it, you’ll see some black arms I printed to accommodate 2 more rollers on the back side of the pipe. It Just didn’t make it into the video, I was trying not to drag it out to long because I know I have a bad habit of rambling on.😂😂

    Cool project! Maybe another small fan blow into the cabinet (filtered) will help keep dust out with positive pressure? I built one of those rolling carts.... I was renting at the time, ended up moving 3 times in 5 yrs! Was REAL handy then. I've since added pneumatic casters so I can roll it out of the garage easily for spring cleaning (leaf blowing) in the garage.

      @@brewbuilds haha yeah that’s no good. I got some fantastic 5” ones from Amazon for a sanding cart I made. Gotta be 300 lbs… drum sander, 12” disk, and spindle sander all on it. The simple irony that a shop vac can’t roll over its own cord is exactly what’s wrong with America. Good casters isn’t too much to ask for.

    Dump the ladder and build a 2’ wide platform that you can walk on a lot more efficient and high enough to store storage containers of the printer’s materials and parts.

    Really nice... one comment/question though: why not have some type of sliding door on the outer wall in mid-to-back area just to allow for accessible storage of smaller pieces in the back end of the storage area?

      If I’m understanding correctly, you are referring to the back of the plywood storage compartment? That would have been a really cool idea, except I would have had to make the compartment/enclosure longer, and could have. But then it would have stuck out past the face of the bathroom wall. Which isn’t un-doable it just would have took up more space, and then it turns into a game of (how big should I make it). I’ve got some ideas for the smaller piece storage, and other add-ons/ corrections that I’ll address in a future video.👍🏻 thanks for watching and commenting. 👊🏻

      @@brewbuilds We must not be thinking about the same thing, cause there wouldn't be any need to enlarge the enclosure. I'm talking about the black outer wall you built (parallel to the sheets of plywood within), toward the deep end of your enclosure. Instead of a solid piece of plywood, just put a hole in it (with sliding door) to provide access to the back half of the storage area. Make sense?     I like it. I would reduce the size of the return duct to the bathroom to put the enclosure under positive pressure. That will ensure only filtered air from the bathroom enters the enclosure.

    Build a proper step up to the cabinet and use the space under the step as additional storage, the "library" ladder looks great but
    ladders in a workshop are dangerous and in a hurry you can slip and fall, you cant safely stand and work on your Bambu 3d printer while holding on to the ladder with one hand. Time to lose it, also add some simple stick on draught excluder type brushes to the glass , that will stop 90% of the dust overnight. Thanks for the Vid...

    So, dumb question, but why put plywood sheeting on the lower cubicle? That's a huge amount of space that would be useful otherwise if you put up, say, pegboard or something instead. Plus, could run an outlet or build in a power strip or something to also set up a battery charging center to maximize space utility?

    get some single sided sticky door frame foam on a roll (Home Depot) to put between the panes of glass for a better seal

      That foam crossed my mind, I was worried it would stand out when looking at it. I’m sure the small 1/4” ish strips wouldn’t be too bad though.

      I have a Bambu Lab P1S. Not to make it confusing when I originally purchased it it was their p1p model which was their basic version, and a few months ago I bought their conversion kit to add the additional components to upgrade it to the P1S model which is more middle of the road in their line up. If you’re unfamiliar I can explain more. This printer has been awesome and I highly recommend it. I had zero experience prior and it has been a dream to use and learn without any prior knowledge.     Humidity. You need to control the humidity inside the printer enclosure. Bathroom as a source of air needs definetely an automated fan with a heating element.

      I do, but I am trying to keep that area clear for if I need to use a step ladder/stool for more involved work inside the enclosure. Making the footprint larger at the face would make that more challenging. 👍🏻

    Anybody else confused why the cedar siding he took off did not get reused to match (as well as possible) the bathroom?
    With all the opening for the sliding glass on the large side there should be enough siding to do that whole side and the front with the viewing window and opening for the sheet goods.

    If you pump more air into your 3d enclosure than you pump out you can over pressure that area and thus... no dust.

      @@brewbuilds I think the glass doors will have a lot of leakage but you have two fans you could use. Try it. You would probably want filters on the fans.

    Awesome. One thought on the dust issue is to just up-size the “intake” fan in either size or speed. Just get more air into that space than leaves through the other fan and it should have a slight positive pressure.
    Might not be perfect, but should be enough for sawdust.

    A couple of things raise alarms with me. The first is that there’s no fire suppression in the enclosure. Using a Meeross sensor only tells you that there’s a problem. Unless you’re in the shop it’ll be too late to react. Look into a self contained auto triggering extinguisher. Second is the fans circulating bathroom smells into the compartment. Yuck.

      You can’t argue with extra safety, but a fire suppression system might be a little over the top. I did consider a smoke detector. I’m really not to concerned, the outside of the printer isn’t hot by any means, and it is no different than this sitting in an office in your house, or on the workbench in my shop it was previously.
      So far so good with not having bathroom smells circulating in the enclosure. 😂

      I guess time will tell.😂 honestly I’m the only person that uses my shop, and the bathroom doesn’t get used a lot for that purpose. Nothing like (crop dusting) yourself! 🤣

      No whining coming from me, but with first hand experience I can say, as your shop size grows so does your projects and machines. I came from working out of a single car garage, and I filled this dedicated 30x40 fairly quick. I’m just trying to be more practical with how I utilize my space. What you see now is just the stage I’m currently in. I have a longways to go and have a lot of ideas. So I’m just trying to think ahead. 👍🏻

    To be honest, horrible project. The workshop is huge and this booth solves nothing, while having an absurdly difficult and awkward access to the printer, while completely wasting space with that ladder. This is not over engineer, it is over engineering a really bad initial design. Sometimes we should just stick to what we are good at and hire or invite other people to help us with design...

      Your comment about humidity is valid and is something that needs to be addressed. I’m looking into a couple options to take care of this👍🏻
      I’m all about honest feedback, and you are entitled to your opinion, but if I’m being honest I think you’re being dramatic. 🤷🏻‍♂️
