Renovating A $155K Mansion In North Carolina | Unlocked
I live 5 minutes from this house, and I used to drive by in awe of it’s historical glory. They really have made it sparkle again.
How safe is the area? Aberdeen is around some of the cities with the highest crime rates in NC.
I live close by as well in Raeford! So cool! This house is STUNNING!!! 😍❤️
@@WilliamTheMovieFan It's a pretty safe area. Not sure what cities you're referring to but it's a good 20-30 minute drive from places that used to be known locally for crime. The area has exploded in growth over the last 20 years or so, nearly doubling in population.
@@LulaMae21 well cities and towns around that area are listed as areas of high crime, such as Raeford, Rockingham, Albemarle, Fayetteville, and some others. It seems Aberdeen is surrounded!
I live in Robbins about 20 minutes from this house on a 188 acre farm. When I was younger people would have parties there many parties there. I was there when a guy from Carthage fell through to the ground floor drunk but he was lucky with just a twisted ankle and some scratches. The area as far as taxes its expensive but the cost of living in that area is very cheap. We have so many farms in that area its insane. The crime did go up but again population in that area has now almost tripled but for the most part very friendly people. Depending on the lifestyle you live with golf courses everywhere expensive food places yea it can be expensive if you live that way. That area is considered very safe they have more cops plus private security everywhere because of the golf courses. I live outside of Robbins nothing but woods and farmland and people who make pottery.
So wonderful to see people RESTORE old homes like this rather than buying an old building, gutting it, and turning it into something completely modern without all of its character.
Yeah, now they're gonna have to suffer with all the problems that comes with an old house.
If you rip out everything inside that made it unique, make it look modern, and put down gray vinyl faux floors I'd honestly rather see the home torn down and the pieces go to a restoration group that can use them to save another old house. It's always such a shame to see a 200 year old house that looks like crap because someone remodeled it in a way that will look dated in 3 years.
Ugh, Ikr? Modern architecture is so bland. Architecture slowly went down the drain after the 1940s....
It really boils my blood because it’s like what if I go into your house pull out your family photo album and I color over your grandparents pictures and make them look different because I felt like their outfits were dated and needed a makeover?
Houses (especially ancient ones) are pieces of art created by many people from the past and should be respected for what they are! These younger people need to start buying new houses and leave these relics alone!
Id glady do it but I live in CA and if we did this type of reno here it would be 500-600k for the house plus 800k-1M in reno. Not very many people have that kind of money lol
This could have been 45 minutes long and I would have loved every second. LOVE how they saved and restored so much!!
Right I felt like it was too short
I wish it was longer too!
@@kimberlykidd3755 that is what she said. hehe
It could have been 8 episodes that were each 45 minutes long showing the actual work and I think everyone would have watched all of them. I would have loved to see what the workmen did to accomplish this. It is a beautiful house.
Lies again? Nescafe Coffee
This is how most supernatural/horror movies start. They are brave souls…although the husband looks like he is little frightened and has seen things he isn’t telling anyone about. All joking aside, I agree with a previous comment that this should be it’s own series. They did a beautiful job renovating the house (kitchen and bathrooms are perfect!) and refurbishing the furniture. I like that they didn’t overdo it on modernizing the entire house, and they kept a great portion of the original details.
I’d be completely creeped out by the potential past of the home. Sinks in bedrooms sound like servant quarters 👀 ...
What saved this house from being haunted is all of the windows and doors were either busted out or open so No spirit could reside there they had the freedom to leave.
You spoke my mind.
I'm glad someone said it 😁 it's a beautiful home and they did an amazing job restoring it. But I wouldn't be able to get a good night's sleep because of potential paranormal activity 🤭
I noticed a few of us umm…darker tone people say the exact thing. I wonder how many folks have been murdered d here.

I would watch it!
Love the restoration work and that they did not build a “new” home and kept its structure. Houses like these are built to last.
$268,000 restoration cost??? WOW!!! That is amazingly affordable.
Looks absolutely amazing
😊✌🏼
What a killer restoration! I'm amazed you could do it for that price. I've seen plenty of money pits that $500k would barely scratch. Fantastic job guys!
Probably helps that they live in North Carolina with a lower cost of living
Smaller local area contractors are probably less likely to rip them off too. Especially with them being locals themselves!
Even for that location $200k seem way too low
Part off the reason their home increased in value so much is that the area has grown immensely in recent years. They did a fantastic job!
They nailed the stain of the wood throughout... that dark walnut looks killer on that house. Great job guys!
As a North Carolinian I am so proud of what you’ve accomplished! God bless you and your family in this lovely old home!
This is so cool. According to my mother, this was my great grandfather Bishop’s home and she would visit during the summers as a child.
No way! That’s amazing 😊
@Robert Lindsey interesting. Do you know why the home was abandoned?
@@tvs9978 If I remember correctly, GGD Bishop was married 3 times and the descendant that inherited the home was from his 3rd marriage and somewhat estranged from the rest of the family. She didn't want it, but wouldn't sell it either. My mom's brother tried to buy it many years ago so he could restore it and she wouldn't even talk to him about it.
@@robertlindsey1138 aww thanks for responding. That's sad. I see so many family disputes resulting in beautiful architectural gems being left to rot where I'm from too and it's such a shame. We forget that the people who built them spent a lot of time, effort and money to create an asset to pass on. Thankfully your great grandpa's has been restored.
@@tvs9978 It’s haunted.
Just driving through the Sandhills area of NC, you quickly realize it has some of the best homes in terms of historical architecture. The homes are historical masterpieces from Sanford, Aberdeen, Pinehurst, and others nearby.
My home is in Aberdeen and is Historical. It's one of The Blue Houses ...
I say most of the historical homes built during this time are hands down some of the best built. These structures are solid as a rock and this crap they build now could not stand the test of time, compared to these amazing detailed structures. This was worth every penny they put into restoring it and got a great deal restoring it. I'm in the sandhills area and love old structures everywhere, because they just don't make anything like they use to. :{
What a dream house! They did a beautiful job!
I have to say thank you for saving this jewel. The newer houses cannot compare to these masterpieces with the built in storage cabinets and gorgeous solid wood floors. Great job and this home will give you both many years of happy memories.
A project like this needs someone to LOVE the property. It's Wonderful this couple has the passion & motivation to take it on.❤
Makes me wonder why I have to spend $4.7MM for a house like that in Vancouver......Great job and makes you realize that there is value out there
Ya.. Can someone explain why Canada being so large have one of the most expensive real estate in the world!
Vancouver is a way way better place to live than here. More to offer overall.
@@endi4654 Canada may be large land wise but the majority of the population all live in the very lower portion where winter is more manageable, closer to the US border. & Unlike the US where there are a lot of decently sized and large cities, there aren't as many in Canada. & People are willing to pay a lot to be/stay in Vancouver. It's a big city with everything that offers. Shops, good food, different people, culture and entertainment. And mild winters too.
@@tikusblue I live in NC and the winters are barely manageable here the older I get. I’m 38!
@@shawnoncall A matter of opinion.
What a beautiful family and a beautiful home 😍💜. I like how intentional they were about keeping/restoring the original design of the house.
I remember finding these two when they first bought this house - so excited to see what they’ve done with it
Very nice remodel- i worked on a house that was from that time period (about 3/4s as big) and the foundation, roof, hvac, insulation and electrical were all nightmares. Had to rip off 7 layers of shingles, jack up the house, fix the foundation, pull everything down to the studs and build it back up.
I’m so glad this family saved this beautiful home. It’s so beautiful 😍
I love all the original hardwood features-the staircase is my favorite.
Absolutely gorgeous! I'm so glad that they decided to keep most of the antique furniture that was left behind, even if repurposed for a bathroom sink. People in 1913 purchased their furniture, expecting to use it for their entire lifetime and even their children's lives. Whoever bought it would be thoroughly pleased that it is still being used 110 years later!@
Who else was thinking of horror movies in old mansions all through the video
The same exact thing happened to the historic home that I grew up in. It had been built by a Gilded Age industrialist, but the family had abandoned it for 17 years. When we pulled up, some swami was cutting a check on the spot to the guy who had bought it from the family, & my Mom told his that he wouldn't accept the money because God intended for her to raise her children in that house. He thought that she was crazy, but she ended up with it. We pt a new roof on it & were forced to replace the coal burning furnace the first winter when it went out & blew coal dust all over the house & Christmas decorations. Then, we redid the kitchen & family room four years later. Three years after that, my parents did a soup to nuts renovation complete with new plumbing & wiring, refinishing the original hardwood floors, & redecorating with reproduction hand-printed wall paper & oriental rugs in every room, & finally they bought a house full of antiques. They were VERY careful to be historically accurate. And, my mother DID raise us in the house. To this day, nothing touches my heart like a historic home that is a diamond in the rough that just needs love & someone who can see beyond the current dilapidation to see the grand old lady that it used to be - oh & DEEP pockets.
Honestly before purchasing the home they should have done like a background check on the family that previously lived there, I mean why was the house dormant for 40 years 🤔 something must have been wrong with the house. Also I would never use furniture from the previous owners whether it looks reusable no thank you, people or spirits tend to always attach themselves to something like fav chair or whatever. I would just be overthinking everything. But even modern newly built homes can have the same occurrence if the grounds of the property is cursed.
What a lovely young family! I’m so happy they were able to complete this project and now get to raise their family in this beautiful home.
Wow 😯 you guys did a beautiful job . I’m so happy when people renovate old homes that have so much character instead of buying new homes that all look the same .
It's truly beautiful! I love that you didn't tear it down, others would have. Phenomenal workmanship!
I love when people restore beautiful, graceful, old houses.
What an amazing transformation! So richly blessed to be able to raise your family in a home you plan to hand down to your children. A home like yours would be a multi millionaire house here in Southern California.
A house like that in Toronto, depending the property size, starting about 5 m.
What an incredible home, gorgeous! God bless you for rescuing that mansion🌹🌹🌹
Beautiful & Kudos for keeping & incorporating the antiques 😊
My family is from Laurinburg! Right down the road!! It is so heartwarming to see life breathed into these older homes.
Oh I LOVE old homes so much! They will never be able to duplicate those old homes. The character, charm, uniqueness of those old homes just hits my soul…
That is a stunning home!! They did a beautiful job restoring it. I love how big all of the rooms are. And, of course, the staircase and floors are the stars of the show!
They absolutely outdid themselves, seeing how trashed it was. Excellent job.
It's sooooo beautiful!! I love how they decorated not too much furniture but just enough.
I have only seen this in UK, Ireland, and Scotland. on shows on UA-cam or whatever; One of the few American restoration projects I have seen----do more, do more
I love old homes like these. They feel cozier and with personality.
This is absolutely beautiful! Great job on the renovation!
Those sinks in the bedroom enabled the occupant to constantly be presentable. Freshening up and dressing for meals, for times someone would call (appear at the door), and constant shaving for men. Period homes in Europe with multiple guest rooms often have a sink in the bedrooms. This frees up the shared bathrooms and keeps those spaces available for bath or toilet use. Currently designers are pushing homeowners to install sinks in boys and guest rooms. A nod to the vintage ways.
I was scrolling through all the comments as I knew someone would be able to explain the sinks in the bedrooms. Thank you!!❤
@@dalayneygirl8059 We get by with a little help from our friends, right? 💞My pleasure.
I bet that the house didn’t originally have so many bathrooms. There may have been one bathroom when it was first built, and then the sinks in the bathrooms were used to freshen up in between actual baths.
What an amazing house! Am so thankful you “rescued” it & created your forever home! ENJOY!
I love how much of the original home y’all restored UGHHH BEAUTIFUL
You have made such a lovely forever home and hopefully your children will want to keep in in the family. I applaud you for your foresight and hard work to restore this gem of a home. Thanks, for sharing.
I have nothing but respect for this young couple..!!! To take on that type of task and knock it right outta that ball park is simply amazing!! Well done to you both!! Incredibly beautiful..!!
First, Thank you for restoring this beautiful mansion. I can see the love you both put into the renovations. You have done a wonderful job. What a great legacy that you’ve made for your children. Have you thought about opening up your home for touring at certain times of the year? For example, Christmas or one month out of the summer. Charge a fee to recoup some of the money spent on renovations. The history is very interesting and important to the community. Thank you for the tour.
Thank you for saving the Grand Old Lady, you have done her proud, she has a family again!!!
I sooo appreciate amazing people like you to restomod this amazing home! God bless you both!
Unless you fill this house with like 5 or 6 kids, it would always look (and probably sound) like a haunted mansion to me lol
I love how they trusted each other with this decision...home ownership and renovations this massive are not for the weak! Beautiful partnership and rewards. Enjoy. 🏡🙏🏾
That's gorgeous no wonder yall fell in love with it and it's a Home you can pass down to your children...Im rooting for yall...I love seeing others who love and restore old homes especially like this ❤

It's alot of work but can be done. Congrats to you both for working so hard to remodel this beautiful home.

Yep. Reminds me of the movie.
Amazing home! You guys did a fantastic job on that house, it's absolutely Gorgeous, would love to have a house like that. So glad it wasn't torn down. The architecture and character of the house is so wonderful. Your house should be in a magazine.
Considering all that they accomplished the price and timeline were well done. Excellent job, I'm sure the original builders/owners would be proud.
This is a real treat. Amazing restoration and preservation effort. Easily a forever home.
This is amazing! What a lovely house and great work restoring it and keeping the original charm. Very tasteful and classic.
this is fabulous. Amazing job. The best part for me is your bathroom. Just adore the twin shower and how you did the wall around it. So unique.....So jealous that you found this amazing home and how you renovated it. Keeping the old furniture and revamping each piece, you must be so proud.....All the very best to your family.....Western Australia
Do they have a UA-cam channel? I would totally watch them renovate their home. I mean I’m already watching people renovate chateaus in France 😆

It makes me so sad to see so many beautiful and historic homes just crumbling into the ground. This is so beautiful and such a dream come true.
I'm so happy to see someone who wants to restore old homes instead of just building something new.
Omg what a fantastic labor of love, especially the furniture. Beautiful home,I love NC❤️
I grew up just down the road in Rockingham but missed this one somehow. Love older houses because of the charm, architecture and fine construction. What a deal this was...not to mention gorgeous.
I'm just across the river bridge in Lilesville. I love old homes and I love to see them restored.
You did an amazing job. It looks very homey and grand at the same time.
Make many wonderful memories in your forever home.
What a beautiful home. Glad you saved it --so much character and history.
it is great that beautiful homes like these are saved and restored
A truly beautiful home! I live in neighboring Richmond County, NC and purchased a home built in 1915! Those that come to visit beg me not to touch the floors since all, but one room, are original and quite beautiful. Over time, I've come to understand their importance to the home. A bit squeaky, but that adds to the charm! The windows were another story though, also original, but they had to go...my winter bills were the best indicator! I hope you enjoy your home as much as I'm sure to enjoy mine! Happy days to you and yours!
So just over $400k for an absolutely AMAZING house - well worth it.

OMG, love this house, so beautiful!!!
You did a fantastic job on the renovation. Your home is just beautiful. I hope you enjoy many happy years there. It's such a wonderful legacy for you and your children ❤
What a cool restoration. I like the minimalism and old mixed with new, modern. Thanks for not cluttering it up furniture, paintings, and knick knacks, etc. ; ) Thus, the renovation looks even more spacious with lots of breathing room. I also like that you kept the paint and furnishing neutral colored for the most part without dark paint and dark furniture, thus, making the renovation look even more "light and airy". This renovation reminds me of the 3 story house renovation (the only 3 story house renovation on the show) in Waco, TX on the former Fixer Upper show on HGTV.
The house started with some good bones! I always love restorations, old made new.
Absolutely beautiful what they did with this house. I would have fallen in love with it as well.
Congrats guys, you made that property a dream home even better than what we see on those TV shows. My wife and I are also living in a home that we bought last year. The house is 16 years old and was in a perfect condition but we both had the same feeling when we came in the house the first time we had a visit with the realtor. We were lucky to find it and could reach out a deal with the seller. It's important to feel home when you get home. Enjoy and lots of happy moments for you.
Looks like the house out of Resident Evil 7 in the thumbnail. I'm just waiting on Jack to bust out the front door screaming "Welcome to the Family, Son!" Or maybe that's just me 🤔🤷🏿♀️
What a beautiful home. I love the “before” photo shoot too. Congrats on your achievement

I used to live in that house! My mother rented it. There is a staircase from the back kitchen to servants quarters in the attic. The attack was massive. It’s a shame that Elva let it fall apart. It used to be stunning!! 🤗
Amazing couple and home! Something so rare these days. I’m praying God’s blessings on your sweet family. Future updates would be great and about your land and more history about your property. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Would love to know which contractor did this for $250k, seems like not nearly enough to cover the amount of work done
You guys are what keeps America great what a wonderful loving family God Bless
An OUTSTANDING restoration of a magnificent home! I hope that one of the antique pieces that has been or will be saved is that lovely old upright piano. Hopefully the were able to reamalgamate the finish, as refinishing changes the tone. The cabinet appeared in decent order. New strings, felts, and hammers are not cheap but they are very much doable. Like old homes, old pianos are incredible and so many people think nothing of spending a fortune on a new one when saving an old one results in a lower spend and a higher quality instrument.
You both have a wonderful talent!! It's so great seeing the restoration of beautiful properties such as this! We need your touch in Elizabeth City !
This is THE house in stranger things season 4
Absolutely jaw-dropping! Aren’t the rooms absolutely enormous - the restoration is very tasteful and authentic looking. It looks like the mansion has extensive grounds that could be made into gardens to match the house.
That is a big home. Fabulous, too. Looks stunning. Love that large porch.
What a great couple and they have done such an amazing job and kept this old beauty rather than tear it down like most people! I applaud your vision and what you have achieved
Never went inside this house. I own a business and one day my customer asked for a ride home. I was blown away when I pull up to this house straight out of a horror movie. Said to myself this must be a joke because nobody would be living in this falling apart house. Wild to see it now.
