There have been many covers of this particular song. However, IMHO, David Cassidy's cover of this particular song is THE best cover of them all. He gives this song heart and soul. He also makes this song even more poignant than all other covers and also, even more poignant than the original Association version. He also makes this song his own in his own unique way. His version was THE first time I heard this song, though I would later hear the original Association a long time later. It's too bad that his cover didn't make it to #1 on the Billboard Pop chart like the original did, but it did hit #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. The only places it hit #1 were in Australia and New Zealand. Cherish would earn David Cassidy his only GOLD certified single in the USA as a solo artist and also, as a solo artist, the Cherish album would be his only GOLD certified album while his next two solo albums didn't earn any USA certifications and neither did his LIVE album or greatest hits album. INHO, he was a very talented artist who never got the respect that he truly deserved as he was much more than the guy who played Keith Partridge on The Partridge Family, but the Keith Partridge stigma always haunted him and his post Partridge Family albums weren't big sellers, but were actually very good albums and also, it showed that he was also a wonderful songwriter.
