  • Nick Duckworth is a veteran Royal Tank Regiment Commander and was part of the NATO defence during the cold-war. After leaving the military, Nick found work in Iraq as a private contractor and his team went through quite a few close calls, whilst working there. After being recommended, Nick was put forward to become Aston Martin's Senior Production Specialist, introducing clients to the brand, the cars and the Aston Martin family. Nick tells us how the Aston Martin DB5 was introduced to the James Bond films. In November 2021, Nick moved to Group Lotus.

Chris could you let people know that Homeless servicemen are entitled to be homed by law under the forces charter. But what they must do is quote that to their local housing departments and councils. If they say I am ex forces means nothing until they say under the charter you are by law obliged to house me under this act. Thanks buddy.

One fascinating tank related story from the Battle of Stalingrad was that tanks rolled off the production line, out the door and went straight into battle, without even getting a paint job.

Well onto the trains as they were built that far in Siberia the factories were out of reach of the war front then shipped thousands of miles too the front into battle. Apparently the workforce that built the tanks lived in appalling conditions. There’s a famous secret recording of Hitler and a Finnish general about how many tanks the Russians were building and even Hitler couldn’t believe the amount of tanks that Russia were producing. In one year one factory built 35,000 tanks which even by today’s standards is unbelievable.

@@matty6848 the source I got that little nugget of info from was from the book ‘Enemy at the Gate’ which was a historical narrative of many aspects of the battle from many sources (available as an audiobook on YT). It was then made into the film which included some of the stories, but was based around the sniper, the one that Jude Law played and I can’t spell his name, his story is only a small part of the actual book. So not all of the engineering plants had been relocated behind the Urals before the German 6th army attacked the city.

Many in my family have served in various RTR regiments over the years. Going back before that even to the heavy machine gun corps.
My father was 2 RTR as was I.
I currently have 2 sons in the RTR regiment and a third doing his driver training in Bovvy..

Well fight for big profit and the industrial military complex. God bless our brave soldiers they do a fantastic job, unfortunately all wars are instigated by money and resources. That’s the only reason why we went into Iraq and Afghanistan. Unfortunately Soldiers are just expendable pawns in their war games. When in Afghanistan in 2008 and 2009 I thought I was out there for the right reasons. Now I’ve woke up and done my research I realise I was lied too and mislead just like all other soldiers were.

Chris just watched a general saying how the Russian vehicles are failing in the Ukrain invasion as not having been maintained.I was an armourer on Harrier GR 3 in the 80s.I was also a HGV driver and we were given our own personal 4 tonners. I had to maintain it by starting her up on a regular basis,She was one of the first turbo models.I kitted her out nice.I also looked after our deployment gear for our team, even built a lazy boiler for hot water made out of a galvanised dustbin with kettle elements so guys had hot water to wash and shave. We were lucky as signal guys were part of our team and had 24/ 7 power.they connected us up for a couple of crates of beer. But seams a lot of corruption within the Russian military prevented to keep maintenance up with vehicles by all accounts. Would love to chat sometime even though ex RAF (penguin) did maney things in my career that I think you would find very interesting.

Sounds interesting. Love how you rigged up that dustbin for hot water that must of been a god send on those cold winter morning to have a wash with warm water. Was you stationed in Germany?

I'm currently writing part of my autobiography, which includes my army career, you should write it down. . . I've found it very informative and have a new perspective on my life.
