Hell even cheaper then that. And looks like it’s encased in hard plastic with plexy glass or some clear durable material so nothing short of a good size and speed of an object would take it out. Say stray bullet or a sizable rock smacking it at a fair speed. Weakest thing I see is the wires. They could be covered in Kevlar but it’s hard to tell
Now that's the way to do it. It shows a clear understanding of the so called organization paradox: most authority is at the top, most knowledge at the bottom. Nothing makes for a more effective band of brothers than that.

I think I the cameras is definitely a good idea but atleast make them either protected or smaller so the enemy cant shoot them off. Apart from that I thing the little steps, ladders and extra storage is definitely a good idea that should be installed on all vehicles not just tanks
I think a tank would benefit greatly from having its own dedicated UAV (like a quad copter type) that can launch off the top of it, go up and get a bird's eye view of the area and potentially spot enemy targets. It would be able to scout ahead a bit as well. Wouldn't need to be big or have a long battery life as it could dock on the tank to recharge. Tethering it to the tank would eliminate the need for a battery and make it immune to jamming or hacking, which would be a big concern. And if it's tethered it could be a blimp type which would be silent and have indefinite loiter time, which would be useful at night.
The Rheinmetall Lynx IFV has exactly that. Total of 20 cameras around the vehicle. And that's not including any weapons sights or task specific optics either, it's twenty cameras dedicated to general situational awareness.

Simple and cheap ideas, that act as force multipliers, using already existing tools and equipment, definately not a bad idea at all. Senior Commanders should ask for more ideas like this more often.
Dunno if you've served, but there's all kinds of in-the-field upgrades being applied. I'd have some mechanics cast me a custom grip for my personal weapon as my hands are too big for the regular grip to work well. Lots of infantry bought their own boots instead of the Meindl shit we're issued, as the soles are too thin for rocky terrain.
Some tankers truly wanted to cooperate with the infantry so they can be stronger together. Respects to the soldiers in this video and soldiers elsewhere they wish to support.
Also America should take point and ask our servicemen similar questions about their equipment from their knifes to their planes

Well, they had this flash of insight regarding your vests, where they figured out women don't really fit into men's vests, while men are not all the same height, and they're going to make better ones. It only took them seventy or so years to figure out.
Fun idea, but then I start asking questions. Like, 'how will you protect that rear camera screen from mud and elements while still leaving it accessible', 'what happens to those barrel cameras when you start 'shooting the cannon'' and keep those wires protected', 'How much extra armour will you need to protect the 360 parascope from small arms fire, tree branches, and the elements', and the most important, 'how much will this all cost in extra parts and maintiences'? I sometimes wish I could pimp myself out as a Rifleman, and I have done my best to make myself comfortable with my combat gear and kit, but then again most these upgrades start going into the realms of command and control five or six ranks above me.

Only bit I would have concern for is the gun barrel camera. The shock blast from being fired could damage the camera. The rest are simple and easy to do. The shovel at the front will also act as a small arms and RPG deflector.
@@ls200076 Not necessarily. Most of the equipment showcased on the Challenger2 will get blow away by the first grenade detonating next to the tank. Not to mention the open cables and unprotected screen. They sell you the steps on the skirts as something great, when the German army has had this on Leopard1 since 1964. The dozer blade and 360° camera aren't something new either. KMW already presented the Leopard 2 UrbOp at Eurosatory 2010 after more than a year of testing had already been done with the concept.

No, they aren't lmao. Name one person in this comments section saying that tank drivers should be in charge of tactics, strategy, organization, etc. Once you have a working product it's great to have the end user improve it, but putting end users in charge from the beginning of the project will just lead to 50 different people making 50 unreasonable demands.
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD Why was the product made then if it wasn't to fulfill the needs of the end user? If 50 people want to cross a river I'm sure their demands will be reasonable. Unreasonable demands would mean a unreasonable product to produce therefore it is not produced. I'm also sure that they'll come to a mutual agreement on the limits and scope of the product because of time and resource limits.
INSTALL GENTOO this may come as a great surprise to you but people, on occasion, disagree. And implementing changes is not exactly a simple or quick or cheap process
was thinking the same. forget cameras.... a well placed flame, and there goes the wiring. if they really want a 360 vision, they'd mount the cameras as individual points, around the hull, tightly secured behind armored glass. still doesn't make them invulnerable to obstruction, but one hit is not going to take out the whole assembly.
@@bcn1gh7h4wk Maybe have it be a periscope, like how commanders would pop their heads up. The Infantry add-ons look good though, specially the forward camera to rear monitor.
it would take up space in the interior, when lowered. better to have cameras around the crew, between the plating and the inner hull. there ARE cameras small enough that could fit in between armor plates with minimum shaving of the plate itself, but that has to be engineered with the tank. these? are mods, not features.
That could be said for any hi tech afv or tank. Or any ship or aircraft or helicopter or Artillery platform or missile system or IT system or infantry soldier or storeman or medical unit or fuel jockey, blanket stacker or field kitchen etc. (No order of preference.)
@Darth Trump But this is flimsy at best. Not to mention, everything but new. Leopard 2 UrbOps, which was presented in 2010 has 90% of these accessories, but done better.

Too many unlucky shots and no more ammo, but I don't see anyone advocating ditching rifles and going with swords instead?
@@Ruhrpottpatriot Actually they don't have 90% of any of them. Different tank for different ops. While yes they have similar systems the Lep 2 urbops has many drawbacks. If you're going to make a comment get all the facts right!
@FBI even with the 2a46m-5 gun which has 900 MM's of penetration using 3BM69 munitions will easily penetrate the frontal hull around of the M1A2 abrams which is rated at 580-600mm of RHA equivalent.
The soldiers ideas about what they need is a representation of how important situational awarness is out in the field. Throughout history many battles have been won by a smaller force that had superior information.
Visibility and situational awareness is very important for a tank crew. Perhaps idle infantry situated back at base could help monitor cameras mounted to units actually enguaged in combat, relaying data back to those on the ground.
Thought: Put a lightly armored box on top of the tank which holds a small drone and the charging station. Have it so the drone can be launched from under armor to look over compound walls and such to locate enemies. The reason for the light armored box is that it could be deployed while under fire without the operator (I'd say either TC or loader) having to open up, and the armor would protect the drone from incidental damage like shrapnel or small arms fire until the operator hits the deploy switch and opens the lid.

FREAKING FINALLY SOMEONE ONE ASKED WHO KNOWS BETTER!!!
I totally like the turret camera. extremely simple yet absolutely useful!
Tanks should have 360 view camera like some of the latest cars
The Rheinmetall Lynx IFV has exactly that. Total of 20 cameras around the vehicle. And that's not including any weapons sights or task specific optics either, it's twenty cameras dedicated to general situational awareness.
Waging war and updating google street view at the same time!

This is one of the Most smartest ideas i have ever Seen in the Military. Let the soldiers With knowldedge desing the Tank instead of a laboratory. Thumbs Up!
Damn I actually though they were building a tank from the ground up
Too last century.
Now we build glorified APCs which cost the same, weight 2/3rds as much to ensure they are not amphibious, don't have a big gun and will sh*t their pants if they faced a real MBY
NO, that would be expenseive, why change what still works. This is an upgrade not an overhaul.
I think if anything, The Camera on the Turret is actually useful.

IT IS A CHALLENGER 2
THE MK2 CHALLENGER WAS THE FIRST FRONT LINE MODEL OF THE CHALLENGER 1 *REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
The camera on the barrel is genius!! lots of great features added to this tank !
*Stalin has left the chat*
@Your Dad если не считать того, что и у нас предложения о камере на стволе звучат как минимум с 80-х... тут скорее вопрос, что за г...ны сидят в кабинетах, если предложения уже старше, чем их карьера?
@Your Dad good, because neither do I. Not much of a fan of Federation ship design, I prefen Klingon ones.
@Your Dad no the joke is that the t 34 and many more tanks during the soviet union were really bare and only the most inportant things were put
He left to make more Bias Tank with Stalinium
lmao
This Is the mind of inventing tank itself. Much respect from japan.
They were flying a drone with a 360 controller
You'd be surprised how much military equipment uses game controllers. It's simple and intuitive.
The US Navy is using 360 controllers to control the periscope on nuclear submarines
No point in reinventing controls, if most of your soldiers already know how to use a controller
I had an iRobot EOD type drone that worked using a logitech PS3 clone controller. Worked really well and I had amazon or a large FOB to replace them if need be.
I got 2 of those
The barrel camera is a stroke of genius.
Simple and cheap ideas, that act as force multipliers, using already existing tools and equipment, definately not a bad idea at all. Senior Commanders should ask for more ideas like this more often.
i don't think that 360 camera it's that cheap
Dunno if you've served, but there's all kinds of in-the-field upgrades being applied. I'd have some mechanics cast me a custom grip for my personal weapon as my hands are too big for the regular grip to work well.
Lots of infantry bought their own boots instead of the Meindl shit we're issued, as the soles are too thin for rocky terrain.
Some tankers truly wanted to cooperate with the infantry so they can be stronger together. Respects to the soldiers in this video and soldiers elsewhere they wish to support.
Ok we need the blueprint for this!
STORMING AREA 51
Damn im impressed by these upgrades.
*huge respect from India*
Also America should take point and ask our servicemen similar questions about their equipment from their knifes to their planes
Well, they had this flash of insight regarding your vests, where they figured out women don't really fit into men's vests, while men are not all the same height, and they're going to make better ones.
It only took them seventy or so years to figure out.
Yes indeed, but the higher ups are too busy listening to the sales pitches from the military industrial complex to buy the next “best” thing...
@ 1:16 TANKS WITH FACEBOOK ARE THE FURTURE? (pause and look at the computer screen)
you're right, it shows in the task bar
Why not? they can use it during downtime :p
Thanks for tour. See you in future.
They should have made it so it turned into a transformer
M James. Oddly enough ,There is a Challenger 2 nicknamed Megatron. there's a video on UA-cam somewhere of it. It doesn't transform into a 60ft robot though :'(
Brilliant idea, it's always a helpful idea when the establishment listens to the frontline operators.

Gawd that thing is a beautiful piece down to earth innovation
The british soldiers have always upgraded our kit, as the kit issued is not up to scratch. Its about time the upper echerlon listened
Let's have a new assault rifle by a British company instead of by the better engineers at foreign companies. What could possibly go wrong? ;-)
Soldiers are not high-born or went through Sandhurst so they are thought to have empty heads and no initiative.
@ well I suppose history proves otherwise...
@ British sniper rifle costs £17,000. US one costs $2,000 - Even a Sten would cost £8,000 each today!
@@rosewhite--- The British soldier is the most commited in the world because we are a volunteer force and not a conscript army. We are taught to think on our feet I was in the army 12 years the bloody officers were usless straight from sandhurst , the biggest joke in the army is don't give the Rupert the map,
This pretty much corresponds to what soldiers in the field want: Better situational awareness and better cooperation with armor and infantry.
Kudos to the UK for doing things right!
Only bit I would have concern for is the gun barrel camera. The shock blast from being fired could damage the camera. The rest are simple and easy to do. The shovel at the front will also act as a small arms and RPG deflector.
Don't worry, they're soldiers. They know what they're doing.
@@Ruhrpottpatriot True. C2 has a full width dozer blade as standard kit but it offers no ballistic protection.

Just to let anyone passing by know, the Abrams was a tank designed using veteran tankers ideas and suggestions in mind, one for example would be the steel door and blow out hatches in the ammunition stowage because the number one fear is being burned alive inside a tank.
Wonder how robust that barrel mounted camera is, looks very fragile and easily damaged.
@@mpk6664 My point still stands, as soon as you start firing that gun its going cause all sorts of problems...
WOW The man at the top listening to the man at the bottom. At last

Really just add a bunch of cameras to the tank.
Sounds like alot of people are advocating workers control in the comment section here.....interesting....
Haha the commies are coming out the woodworks 😉!!
They are asking to be heard, not be in control!
Looks very nice. Hopefully they use some of these updates on more Challengers.
Greetings from Germany to Britain.
Those cameras wouldn't last long on the battlefield
was thinking the same.
forget cameras.... a well placed flame, and there goes the wiring.
if they really want a 360 vision, they'd mount the cameras as individual points, around the hull, tightly secured behind armored glass.
still doesn't make them invulnerable to obstruction, but one hit is not going to take out the whole assembly.
Fantastic to see the British still see the tank as a tool that can support and protect infantry, always loved that
One unlucky shot and boom whole system down
That could be said for any hi tech afv or tank.
Or any ship or aircraft or helicopter or Artillery platform or missile system or IT system or infantry soldier or storeman or medical unit or fuel jockey, blanket stacker or field kitchen etc. (No order of preference.)
Same goes for the tank's default optics and periscopes
@Darth Trump But this is flimsy at best. Not to mention, everything but new. Leopard 2 UrbOps, which was presented in 2010 has 90% of these accessories, but done better.
Too many unlucky shots and no more ammo, but I don't see anyone advocating ditching rifles and going with swords instead?
@@Ruhrpottpatriot Actually they don't have 90% of any of them. Different tank for different ops. While yes they have similar systems the Lep 2 urbops has many drawbacks. If you're going to make a comment get all the facts right!
All we need is a system that logs all movement and puts red or blue dots on a active display map that way the commands can be seen live

3:00 my Lord that's a marvelous chin
Stuff like this is underrated.
The soldiers ideas about what they need is a representation of how important situational awarness is out in the field. Throughout history many battles have been won by a smaller force that had superior information.
Use the barrel camera for room clearing 😂😂
Just poke the barrel through the door like “hello”
The muzzle camera is fricken brilliant
