This video from two years ago popped up at the very top of my suggested videos and I noticed the date as I hit play. I am so glad I let it play. These suggestions are great. I am kicking off the Christmas season on Thanksgiving evening with a book literally called The Christmas Mystery by James Patterson.
A Christmas Party by Georgette Heyer is a great vintage Christmas mystery! Murder in Her Stocking is a fun one too. It's the first in the Granny Reid series set in Georgia in the 1980's - very fun. I read Catt Out of the Bag (1939) last year and really enjoyed it. I love discovering new vintage mystery authors.
Hello SC! I'm from Alabama and I could listen to you for hours!! Janelle sent me. I read a lot and most of them are mysteries. The Penrose is a very good historical mystery. GA McKevett writes cozies. Granny Reid is a spin off series from her Savannah Reid series. Ngaio Marsh is wonderful!! She started the Alleyn series back in the 30s. Love your beautiful Dame Agatha books!! I look forward to watching some of your blacklist videos. Merry Christmas!!
I have several mysteries on my December list! Mysteries are even better when it's cold outside:) I still need to read some PD James. I just started watching Dickensian tv show last night. It's historical based on all of Dickens characters. The 1st episode takes place on Christmas eve.
Great selections! I haven’t heard of a few of these. The Murder at the Old Vicarage sounds fun! You have beautiful editions of the Christie’s! I enjoyed Murder on Blackswan Lane. 3.5 stars-ish
Hi Mitzi, I don’t celebrate Christmas because I’m Jewish but I love wintertime mysteriesI live in hawaii where the winter is a very mild but they call it two blanket Time. I love this time of year. There is so many books you showed that I want to read. I also love Agatha Christie and I’m collecting her books but not in beautiful additions that you have. Sigh maybe one day. I love a lot of PD James but not all of her books. Have a wonderful holiday season. Much aloha sent your way
Love hearing about your TBR! So many lovely Christmas books and mysteries! I enjoyed the Poirot and Christmas pudding book when I read it a few years back. I haven’t read a Georgette Heyer book yet either! 😊📚🎄
I was so excited to see this video when I check youtube this morning!! There is something about reading a mystery at Christmas that is just so perfect!! I don't know why either. I love that edition of Tied Up in Tinsel!! Fantastic! Ngaio (Nye-Oh) Marsh is a New Zealand golden age author.
Lots of wonderful choices! I totally get it when you said listening to music while reading. I need complete silence or I get distracted. Lol 💚❤💚❤💚 thank you
Love this! You have so many good ideas that I'll be checking out. I am so excited for Cloak and Dagger Christmas too. I've got four of the prompts figured out so far. I plan to read The Case of the Missing Marquess by Nancy Springer for the alliterative title, Death in Cypress by M.M. Kaye for set in a different country, Weekend at Thrackley by Alan Melville in the bath 😂 , and I plan to listen to The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
I read my review...I gave it 3 stars (it was fine) but it was more a family drama with a who done it mystery. I remember liking it but it didn't knock my socks off.
I can't wait to hear what you think of these mysteries! I hope it's a wonderful month for you. There's a Christmas episode of Brokenwood Mysteries. It's set in New Zealand so it's not wintery but it is Christmassy. It's in season 3.
Listen to instrumental music VERY low... it counts, right? No singing so you don't feel tempted to sing along, especially if it's so low that you don't hear it very well. :D You've got quite a few of them to interest me. EEEP! I think I'll do this one as well. I love Christmas and I LOVE mysteries, and I'll be writing a mystery during the month, so... I mean, come on! EEEP!
@@mitzireadsandwrites OH! I forgot to mention the Christmas Cozy. I saw Agatha Raisin "Kissing Christmas Goodbye" somewhere and I have wanted to see it. SO... I think I really want to watch that. On the other hand, isn't The Thin Man one that takes place at Christmas? I can't remember. BTW... 4:50 from Paddigton is my favorite Miss Marple. LOVE that one.
I have read Christmas themed mysteries at Christmas for years now. I can’t remember when I started, it was so long ago, but every year I get so excited looking for new ones. Ngaio Marsh is a favorite author of mine. She was from New Zealand and it’s pronounced Nye oh. I’ll be participating but probably not with every prompt.
Oh my goodness, I thought Ngaio was a man so I obviously am clueless. 😂Happy to hear she's a favorite- that makes me even more excited to read it. Yay!!
This is a great pile of possibilities, Mitzi! I read a lot of mysteries and plan to in December, so I am participating in Cloak & Dagger Christmas. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on these!
This video was so much fun that I had to watch it twice. I am going to give Cloak and Dagger Christmas a try. You like to participate in lots of the readathons and so do I. But where you succeed, I fail.🙄 I am sure your new nickname will be Sherlock when the Cloak and Dagger is over. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
This readathon sounds like a lot of fun. I am participating in a Christmas Evil Readathon during December and have chosen a mystery or two for it, so I could also count them for the #cloakanddaggerchristmas. I might be able to get by as an “Amateur Investigator.” 😂 I have a copy of Murder for Christmas, too, and was thinking of reading a couple of short stories out of it. BTW…when you get a minute, check your Instagram DM. I sent you a message about some books I think you might like for your library. 📚 😊
I do enjoy cozy mysteries. I feel like cozy and classic mysteries are perfect for winter. 🙂
Yes! That's so true!!
I can only listen and read when I do instrumental. Beautiful books!
Yes, I think I'll choose one of my instrumental Christmas albums so it's festive.

ooh, that sounds wonderful! I've heard about that show, but haven't looked for it. Thanks!
PS I read cover her face many years ago by PD James and I remember liking it very much. If I’m not mistaken it was one of her first books

Thanks, Amy! I hope to find a few new favorites.
What a fun idea! I do have one mystery on my list of possibilities for Christmas reading. Maybe I will be a praticipator... 🎄😊
Just one and you're in, so yes!
You have so many books with foil on the cover and they are all beautiful!!
Thanks! My family gives them to me for birthdays and Christmas, so I have collected quite a few now.

I've read Cover Her Face but I don't remember what it was about. Lol
😂well that's not promising 😂

Thanks, Gretchen! I think I'll go ahead and start reading one of them this weekend after Thanksgiving. I'm just so ready to start!
Want to do this challenge! Sounds like fun!
Awesome! Hope you find a new favorite!
All of these book covers are beautiful! I can't wait to start reading Murder for Christmas!
I know!! I'm so excited! When are you starting?
@@mitzireadsandwrites I think Friday! I can't wait until December 😂
@@amyc1752 😂I know!! With all of these books, I need a head start anyway!!
